I was surprised none of cable networks were showing Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers this evening. History Channel was showing Forged in Fire which I think is their reality competition where blacksmiths make weapons. Only American Heroes Channel had a documentary on D-Day, and then a show about capturing fugitive Nazis, which seems to be a normal Tuesday series.
While Forged in Fire is a regular Tuesday series, The History Channel also had a series entitled The World Wars throughout a lot of the morning/noon/afternoon (until 4::00 PM EST).
There’s a quote by some great person that loosely says, those who do not study history are destined to repeat it. That’s great news if the history of the world, and humans in general, was one of a peaceful existence where everyone has the same values, beliefs and goals which would minimize disagreements, deceptions, divorces, conflicts and war.
i heard a story on npr tpld by a guy who was on the boats landing at normandy, as depicted in saving private ryan, if you have the energy to look it up, because interesting
The Battle of Midway was a decisive naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II.[6][7][8] Between 4 and 7 June 1942, only six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea, the United States Navy under Admirals Chester Nimitz, Frank Jack Fletcher, and Raymond A. Spruance decisively defeated an attacking fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy under Admirals Isoroku Yamamoto, Chuichi Nagumo, and Nobutake Kondo near Midway Atoll, inflicting devastating damage on the Japanese fleet that proved irreparable. Military historian John Keegan called it “the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare.”[9]

@jqubed History could have at least shown a marathon of the show were people are trying to track down Hitler
@MrGlass The History has become the end of the world channel.

Thanks for remembering and reminding the rest of us.
Yahoo finally put up an article today.
Some of us thought of it, off and on.
A few news shows had the grace to open with it and give it serious time.

Today, or what’s left of it, is the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway, on June 7, 1942, 6 months after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
