Most places Ive had BBQ are fairly casual situations. I feel like the Collared Greens should feel free to let loose a bit, leave the collared shirt at home, break out the tshirt
No way to choose just one of those sides. Baked beans, mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread for me. But, the best way to eat BBQ is when it is served on top of a thick piece of white bread. Once you’re finished with the meat you have a BBQ soaked piece of heaven waiting for you.

Potato salad (or even better, my wife’s German Potato Salad), Noodle salad is good, Baked beans are a must, Corn on the cob, Microbrew beer, a nice little green salad with ranch or blue cheese dressing, watermelon or cantaloupe. Luckily, my wife loves to cook & absolutely everything is cooked completely from scratch. She does the sides, I smoke the meat.
I just got a very nice smoker a few years ago, it improved my outdoors cooking a lot! That & a grill & I’m happy…
So that we can avoid any future unpleasantness, please have the Meh staff review the correct spelling of “collard greens”. I know it’s been pointed out a few times already in the comments, but…it really can’t be overemphasized how critical this is from a unit-readiness point of view. When the SHTF, do y’all want to be running around shrieking and misspelling “collard greens” as “collared greens”, or do you want to be a group of missy-know-it-alls, have your top buttons buttoned, have ice-cold batteries in your tactical flashlights and be spelling “collard greens” as “collard greens”?
It’s ok, you can double-check your math before answering…this one’s a poser.
Potato salad
Corn on the cob
@Cerridwyn I agree. So glad corn is back!
Corn pudding
More BBQ
@awk This!
Baked potato.
Collard Greens? Really? And you left off Corn on the.Cob?
You are not really from a Southern state are you? You can admit it, we welcone northern refugees.
@hchavers More evidence, fried battered okra not listed.
@hchavers fuck corn on the cob. Worst thing ever
@unksol
That’s gonna hurt…
@chienfou @unksol That’s why you butter it.
@cinoclav @unksol …But(t) best leave off the salt and pepper!
Collared greens?
As in a fancier shirt, or were they perchance arrested?
@djslack It was probably the arugula, as it always starts a fight with the kale.
@rockblossom the kale was talking a bunch of nose though. I think it came in looking for that fight.
@djslack Good thing that the folate police were patrolling the salad bar and could give them a good (probably Balsamic) dressing down.
Why not all of them?
@melonscoop Now you’re talking!
@djslack if someone forces you to choose just one side… find another barbecue!
Summer slaw. Similar to coleslaw, but not as sweet, and with diced onions, tomatoes and cukes.
@ruouttaurmind Shop 'n Save’s recipe made it over to Schnucks after they closed all the STL stores. My favorite slaw, hands down.
@mike808 @ruouttaurmind I got some today from an old SnS
Why all the bbq questions? Is someone researching a new business idea?
@tinamarie1974 “Last year’s meat, tomorrow’s prices.”
Potato salad, but with mustard not mayo.
@TheFLP both!
@phendrick @TheFLP Baked potato salad wins.
Just leave out the celery when making any other potato salad.
Gotta have cold beer on the menu with BBQ!
