Thanks- I just subscribed. I have beauty boxes for the family from Target for Christmas too. Because nothing says “Merry Christmas” like deodorant.
@sammydog01 hey it makes a fine stocking stuffer
@sammydog01 my wife LOVES the Target box.
@wishlish They had a men’s one this month too. The guys in my life are getting one.
Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. I’ve been curious as to what other subscription boxes there are. I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy, since their first month… But I don’t wear much makeup and now when I get the bags, it’s a lot of disappointment. I end up giving a lot of it away.
I tried dollar shave club, but their most expensive razor isn’t as good as the fusion, so I cancelled it after two shipments.
Loot crate and other stuff like that is too expensive for the odd chance that I’d like stuff in it.
I just saw a metal head box started… But there’s so many genres of metal, the chance of me liking any of the bands in it, it’s super rare. Sure enough, I watched the first unboxing, and most of the merch was from genres that I don’t listen to.
@RiotDemon Loot Crate is having a 25% off sale today- usually about $20 a month shipped for the regular box. There is always a t-shirt and we have fun with it.
@RiotDemon mancrates.com
@Kirgen Thanks! I will be ordering a Cave Man Crate as a gift and a COW-POCALYPSE Crate for me tomorrow as soon as I find my wallet! (pretty sure it is on my desk at the office)
Also - the Personalized Growler looks like a winner for a couple of associates . . .
Pinging @carl669 - I know you’ll like this site.

@Kirgen OMG - thanks! My nephews in Wisconsin are going to love gifts from mancrates. Great suggestion!!
@Pavlov so. much. meat! i definitely see a cow-pocalypse crate in my future.
@RiotDemon What kind of metal do you like?
@Kirgen why’s it gotta be a MAN crate? Is there something wrong with me if I like the items??
A little out of my budget though. My current subscription is only $10, lol
@Al_Coholic power, progressive, symphonic, folk, industrial, doom, gothic, heavy, thrash… I’m sure I missed some genres. I like a lot of different things, but I prefer clean vocals. I don’t mind some growling, but I like to sing along, haha. I don’t know how many times I try to listen to a new band, and I’m enjoying the instrumental beginning, and as soon as the vocals start, I’m all, NOPE.
@RiotDemon Anyone can use a man crate!
@carl669 @cwolfpack3 @pavlov @RiotDemon Full truth . . . I found out about Man Crates when a friend started working with them. But this is not #ad
I want like one of each
@RiotDemon Interesting bit on the Metalhead Box. Metal’s definitely my go-to genre so I decided to take a look at it, watched a few of the unboxing videos. Looks somewhat interesting, though I agree that the chances of getting something you like are a little too low for me to justify $30 a month on it. I mean, that’s more than my phone bill. That said, one of the videos mentioned they may do a genre-specific box if they can expand enough, so that could be pretty tempting. Thanks for mentioning this!
@Mehsturbator you might of seen the same video as me. If they ever get big enough to break it into genres, that would be more appealing. Some genres are so not for me, that it would be the equivalent of getting a t-shirt for a country band. The people that aren’t into metal, think that it’s all the same, but it’s not.
@RiotDemon I feel exactly the same way. So disappointing when that happens. And possibly even worse are the dipshits that encourage that garbage.
@Al_Coholic I think the worst part for me is the elitist metalheads that say you’re not a metalhead unless you listen to the most extreme metal ever. Sometimes when I watch videos on YouTube of people talking about metal, I just get really annoyed. I mean, there’s 20+ “main genres” and 100s of sub genres. I don’t have to like them all.
@RiotDemon Yeah, that’s pretty ridiculous too. Of course elitists in general trend to be idiots, and they’re everywhere.
@Al_Coholic just today I was watching a video about female fronted bands, which started out saying that he didn’t like when they just threw women in the band and made them wear skimpy outfits to get attention. Ok, I get that point… But then it took a turn and eventually it sounded like he was saying that you couldn’t be taken seriously unless you cover up completely and sing black metal.
Wut.
@RiotDemon Haha WTF. Yeah I kind of have to agree with the first point, but demanding the opposite extreme is also ridiculous. Speaking of female-fronted metal though, have you heard of Persona or Ravenscry? They are both really good!
@Al_Coholic no, I haven’t. Sadly I’m even more picky about female vocalists than males. I don’t know if it’s just hard wired in me to prefer listening to men or what.
I really liked Evanescence, when they first came out, but she’s not metal. I recently picked up two albums with female vocalists. Eluveitie and Nightwish. The first one I really like, but I have no idea what she’s singing, so that sucks. Nightwish, I know I like some of their stuff, so I hope I like the album I picked up at random.
@RiotDemon Yeah I know a friend of mine that I used to try to get to listen to stuff always complained that she didn’t like to listen to songs by female singers.
@RiotDemon Which album did you pick up? I have all of them, spanning all three vocalists. Dark Passion Play is the best, in my opinion, followed by Once. If it’s either of those, very good choice.
And on the topic of female fronted bands, I’ve got a few I love. Give Unleash the Archers (do their newest album, Time Stands Still, as it’s definitely the best), Seven Kingdoms (again, newest album with The Fire is Mine), and pretty much anything from Ancient Bards a try. All are power metal, but they’re really good stuff. And of course, Halestorm is always fantastic. They’re a little bit more on the rock than metal side, but meh.
@RiotDemon
@Al_Coholic
@Mehsturbator
What sub genres of metal do you all listen to, and pls name some bands you like. Perhaps for Xmas I’ll give myself the gift of getting a bit into metal.
@Mehsturbator I think I grabbed Endless forms most beautiful, or something like that. My car’s CD player doesn’t like it, so I haven’t gotten to listen past the first song yet. I’ll have to bring it inside and listen in my tv or computer I guess. I listened to something by the Archer group before, but I can’t remember which album. I’ll check it out.
@f00l I think I’ll start a new thread for this!
@f00l
https://meh.com/forum/topics/the-metal-thread-for-metalheads
@RiotDemon @Mehsturbator Gotta agree with your CD player. I really dislike their new vocalist.
@f00l See the two bands I mentioned above for examples. I guess they are both alternative metal. I don’t keep up with all the wacky names for all the different subgenres, but I briefly glanced through the 30,000 or so listed on Wikipedia and it looks like I mostly like symphonic, alternative, and gothic, along with bits and pieces of folk, power, progressive, “glam”, and maybe doom metal.
Plus some stuff that’s by artists that used to be metal but evolved to now do more what is considered “rock”, like Anathema’s newer stuff. I don’t like their older “growly” type metal stuff though.
Cool, thank you… the kid will love getting mail !
Just got mine today. Not bad for $5. Lots of creams. Was hoping for some makeup samples, but what are you gonna do.
Three packet samples and five regular samples.
The box is pretty cute.
@RiotDemon picture?
@communist the box has a winter pattern. Then It had the little paper liner which was a nice touch.
Inside the box is lotion, hand cream, body wash, after shower lotion, hair spray.
Outside the box is more creams, shampoo and conditioner which is a joke cuz my hair is to my butt and those packets are never enough, haha, and then hair serum.
The website says everyone’s box is different.
@RiotDemon That’s what my daughter got- the old lady box has mascara and wrinkle cream.
@sammydog01 do they ask our age when we sign up? I forget.
@RiotDemon They asked your birth date. I signed up for both older and younger boxes.
@RiotDemon The Amazon beauty box is back in stock- $12 and they give you a $12 credit to buy stuff from the manufacturers of the stuff in the box. It includes a really nice razor, not like the crappy ones I use. Oh, and it’s Prime only.
@sammydog01 Apparently there are a bunch of these sample boxes with the same credit deal. This new year new you box with health and wellness stuff looks appealing. There are also some sport nutrition and supplement boxes.

@sammydog01 I bought all three – the men’s, women’s and luxury boxes. I think I won’t buy the luxury box again; I must not be high-browed enough. The one you linked to and the men’s each had a nice razor!
@sammydog01 bummer. I don’t use prime. Looks neat though.
The Target beauty box for February just went up. Maybe it will make me beautiful- probably not.
@sammydog01 I like how the target box tells you exactly what is in it so you can skip it if you don’t want the stuff. This box isn’t for me. The only thing I’d be interested in is the mascara, and I already have a ton of samples from Ipsy.
So I ordered two Amazon sample boxes. I got the New Year New You box today. It cost $14.99 and I’ll get a $14.99 credit in the health and wellness department on select items.
I got:
1 daily multivitamin
2 chewable multivitamins
1 day supply gummy multivitamins
2 drink powders
15 day supply acidophilus pills
2 probiotic gummies
10 day supply biotin chews
4 nutrition bars
4 protein powder packs
90 vitamin c gummies (full sized bottle)
