VMP Primer {OUTDATED 3/2/15}
8There seems to be a lot of confusion about VMP. Let's clear that up.
From the VMP POST on Mediocre:
You are all mediocre. Take pride in that. Still, there are some out there who are just a little more mediocre than others. For you, there’s the Very Mediocre Person membership.
With each Mediocre Labs experiment, we’ll look to add new features and benefits available only to VMP members. At Meh, here’s the plan:
For $5 a month, you get free shipping at Meh on every deal all month.
Since our normal shipping is $5, there’s a good trick here: Sign up for VMP when you buy something. The option's on the checkout page. You’ll start your $5 membership, and get free shipping on that order. If you’re good at math, you’ll see that joining is essentially free, and you’ll get free shipping on anything you buy for the next 30 days.
We’ll auto-bill you $5 each month, cancel any time, no contracts, no minimum amount of time, yada yada yada. We might send you an email every once in awhile if we have anything good to talk about. Sure, it’s nice making a few bucks off people who sign up and don’t use it, but really the plan is to get you coming back to the site all the time and buying crap constantly because free shipping.
This is all new, and we’re still figuring out what else we might throw into the deal. Maybe you get a VMP badge icon! Maybe you’ll get early access to future experiments! Maybe if we see you in person we’ll make eye contact! Maybe none of those things! We’re open to ideas, especially ones that won’t cost us money like that whole eye contact thing. Got any?
I would like to add that you can cancel VMP at any time and your VMP status, benefits, and badge will stay with you for the full 30 days.
Want VMP to renew on a different card?
Cancel it. When you make your next order where you can renew VMP, use the new card you want it charged to.
Why don't I see my VMP badge?
Badges go in order of scarcity, with your most rare badge displaying in the forums. Your other designations can be seen by hovering over your current badge.
What if I don't want to be VMP? What if I think it's a scam, you thieves!?
Then don't click it and pay $5 shipping for every order from meh.com. Please, don't be mad when the rest of us laugh at you for it.
Where/how do I cancel VMP?
Go to your account (click the head in a circle at the top right of any page in the forums) and scroll to the bottom. Click the link that says "Cancel VMP." If you have done it correctly, your account page will look something like this"
Have any other VMP questions? Post them in the comments and someone will answer you. That someone might even be a staff member.

oh
Hmmm... if I'd read this, I'd never have needed to send an email to support asking the questions that were answered above.
I blame @thumperchick because she wasn't around in chat to answer me when I first asked the question there.
Also, now I'm not going to be able to look smart (if only for a brief moment) in chat by knowing the answer.
@baqui63 I am not the scapegoat this month. It's @studerc's fault.
@Thumperchick @baqui63
@DaveInSoCal - not only did I get all my questions answered, I also got a free "use it in the comments" meme.......you just can NOT beat that!!
lol
@thumperchick Excellent work!
So the cancel immediately benefit still works currently but it has a finite existence (particularly as more benefits are contemplated). We're going to have to move towards a system in which a membership agreement remains active for "membership services" to be rendered. Once revised we'll enjoy other workarounds like an auto-unsub script or browser enhancing calendar reminder (for those not wishing to remain very mediocre people full time).
Be assured, we've had some fun times imagining all the added benefits we cannot give you because of our mediocre goals (but a few may make the cut).
@snapster Thank you! I was wondering how long we would be able to get away with taking total advantage of the current rules. I think that requiring membership to stay active for benefits to be active is a fair thing to implement. Especially if we get more benefits to being VMP!
@snapster Bring on the mediocrity!
@snapster So like "frends with benefits" kind of benefits?
@snapster Will people with unbroken VMP streaks get a bonus?
@snapster Added benefit to add to the list - email 24 hours in advance of a fuku
@Thumperchick BRAVO You deserve an ass hat for this post . I +<3 it!
(yay!)
@JonT, is it possible to open this back up so I can update it? Since the cancellation feature now cancels your VMP immediately.
@Thumperchick also the VMP post link is a dead link it appears.
@Thumperchick I could make the changes if you want me to. We're trying to point people to our new VMP infographic thing: https://mediocre.com/vmp. That's why the old link doesn't work because that post wasn't necessary anymore. But I guess that doesn't address the immediate loss of benefits, give me some time.
@JonT Perhaps the best thing to do now is change the title of the thread to include "[OUTDATED]"? Maybe throw a line at the top that links to your new infographic?
@JonT Someone just mistook this thread for having current information, could you update the title with "outdated" - or maybe allow some edits? I'd hate to see more people frustrated because of info here.
VMP is like Amazon Prime with no pagination.
Can I have $10 if I buy a year membership? I'd also like an option of spinning
"The Meh Wheel"
for determining my yearly fee.
The Meh Wheel
is a not so random wheel of chance where you can save up to $40 or pay more than $20 for a yearly membership. I also think the person that thought this up should get a free lifetime membership.
VMP primer is shitty. It is watery, doesn't seal wood, let alone drywall good and has a very foul odor. Zinser Bullseye primer however is far and above beyond any other.
@Outofmymind Especially the Zinsser shellac based stuff.
This entire thread is outdated.
For more current information, please check out Mediocre's official VMP page.
This thread just made notice that when I mouse over my badge that it shows the date of when I became a VMP. neat
