VMP Milestones
11Saw someone post about hovering over a poster’s name and seeing details and tried it; saw that September marks my 10th anniversary as a VMP member. Renewal September 17th so 16 days away from the auspicious day.
That means I’ve sent Mediocre $600 in fees over the last 10 years. I think I got two pairs of socks and some cardboard phone rests, and maybe a ‘make Irk’ kit many years ago, and lost VMP hour (at least exclusivity) in Mehrathons many years ago.

October 9ish for me
So badass

@somf69
but VMP since Sept '24 as well
Duh… 9/14
September 29 4 me.
The free PastaDrop will forever be my most valuable VMP freebie.
@lljk PastaDrop was so fun. Fed me, some friends, and later on a bunch of mice that found some while I was away for Winter. I still find pasta in strange places brought there by the mice. I stopped feeding them (unintentionally) and they seem to have moved elsewhere.
@lljk @pmarin I still have some pasta even after giving A LOT away and several years passing by, but I did receive 330 lbs in the grand finale drop
@cbilyak @lljk Damn dat’s a lotsa pasta. Don’t want to ask how many Stroopwafel you have. It was a fun time, or at least added some fun when a lotsa people were not having fun.
@cbilyak @lljk did you have a loading dock and forklift, or just a very annoyed delivery person? Can’t remember if UPS or I think some was postal service.
@lljk @pmarin no stroops, do not care for those. And thankfully, the delivery person got a kick out of it, even though the boxes were spread out over a 2-day span, he just backed into the driveway and I helped him unload. With the boxes reading “Noods”, he was intrigued.
@lljk i broke even on pasta… bought two or three batches for me and friends and on one order only got one bag… lost money on that one.
did eat on it for some time though.
@lljk @Noddy93 although I am not a Kickstarter or original VMP, and never participated in pasta drop, I have the pleasure of being the recipient of 20 lb of linguine in an irk a year or so back. I don’t know if I was specially selected for the honor, but we have genuinely enjoyed that gift. It’s one of the little things whose uncertainty about the cause just adds to the interest level. I have no reason to believe that this irk was custom assembled, and yet I feel special for having received it.
August 2016. What’s wrong with me?
@blaineg same thing that’s wrong with us all, apparently.
July 2014 for me. I lost legacy VMP recently when I had to cancel my bank card for a new one, which feels like the Meh-ist of ways to lose exclusivity.
@Zendriver yes stuff like that happens to us and it’s amazing how everything turns on you for something like an expired credit card. It’s like don’t you know who I am?? But no then just someone with a card that was rejected.
And, yet, I blame society.

@Zendriver Same sort of thing for me. Didn’t even notice that I’d lost my VMP until I went to buy something, and I was being charged for shipping. Damned credit card had expired, and I never even thought about having to update that info here
still debating letting it go. Meh just doesn’t have much stuff I’m interested in any more (other than Irks).
December is my 10-year mark. I’m also in the “probably leaving” cohort. Product offerings just aren’t appealing enough to justify the cost, particularly with the current state of IRKs/Fukus and the lack of any incentives. The discount at the sister sites helps a bit, but the product mix hasn’t been appealing enough to draw me into very many purchases… I look closely, particularly on IRK-offsetting offers, and end up walking away.
@earmstrong Do you mean your 10 year mirk?
@earmstrong I can understand that, and am definitely trying to cut back on “stuff” and yet if I get something new and cool, which eventually shows up, I will get that and hopefully clear out old stuff to donate or recycle or trash depending on condition. As I mention below it was also the wine site which has been great at times and also has a good user community, though I see little overlap between frequent users here and there. But in any case the Mehmbership gives you included shipping there too as well. And I’m sure the real shipping cost for big boxes of wine is not cheap, so it’s absorbed as part of the business; sometimes I feel guilty when I buy wine with the membership and it gets 2-day shipping that I don’t have to pay extra for.
@earmstrong @pmarin We used to buy wine for my wife but we have a full cooler and neither of us drinks much these days. That is a valid point for when they have wine and it is actually desirable.
I missed getting the original special status; was in the old W very early on and had connections, so not sure how I missed early chance to join this mess that we are all in now. I have been keeping paying the monthly fee because makes it easy to buy things like USB-C chargers that have come up, Mehrathon items, and mostly wine from the related site, though cutting back on that not on the advice of doctors, though hey have advised that, but I just have way too much wine now.
EDIT Also costs less than even most basic peacock or Netflix which most of us pay for without thought. And at times offers Free Amateur Psychotherapy.
And just found this:
pmarin is a hardcore meh fiend having placed 253 orders
@pmarin So you saved $1,265 on shipping!
I am April 2015.
I had a card expire in November 2016. Not counting that glitch I’ve been a VMP since I came here which would be 10 years ago next month.
@duodec
You also got free shipping on 103 orders on meh, not counting how many you got on Sidedeal or MorningSave.
@cengland0 Tru 'nuff but those orders are heavily weighted towards being 5 - 6 years ago or more. For the last few years I’ve definitely “lost” money as the occurrence of interesting items has declined along with my order frequency. And I rarely even look at Sidedeal or Morningsave… counting this last Irk, maybe 4-5 orders over all.
august 2014 here
Another past the 10-year mark:
Bretterson joined us Tue, Jul 8th 2014 at 7:32am ET. VMP since then as well (though I’m not sure why).
@Bretterson For many, its inertia.
