I don’t want to be a grump, but when I want something from DX, GearBest, BangGood, or AliExpress, I go to DX, GearBest, BangGood, or AliExpress, not Meh.com.
I think I have only ever made one purchase from all of those import sites though. I don’t want to waste my money with them.
I’ve made many purchases from meh though. Because I expect name brand stuff for cheap. And when it’s no-name stuff, I still expect it to be cheap. $84 for a no-name shaver is ridiculous. $24 is not a deal either. To be fair, I’m not a fan of electric shavers. But still, I have a hard time believing this is even worth $24.
@GLaDOS, if it walks like a grump, smells like a grump & if it sounds like a grump, it is probably a grump. Regardless, my specs on this shaver specify a price of $19.00, so unless you’re adding $5 for the shipping cost,…wait, maaaybe, ya need 2 apply as a full time member. Then you can buy more stuff, complain until ur fingers, or thumbs freeze up, and until your grumpy heart’s content, or until your money supply freezes up!! Just kidding,…I like sarcasm too, and enjoyed reading yours.
@awk On the back of the box, it looks like they are saying that this is referring to the way the head guide rows are shaped; in other words, a really awful mistranslation by somebody who had no idea what really needed to be said.
DX gives the brand as Flyco, not Vicco. Blades for the Flyco can be ordered from several sources including WalMart - for now. It looks like this batch might have been headed for the Mexican market rather than the US side of the border originally. For $19, some buyers will treat it as a disposable unit; a set of blades is about that same price.
I used to break out on my neck when shaving, so I went to Norelco electric razors for decades, but never really got a close shave. Just a couple of months ago I tried a 3 blade razor and shaving jell and no problems plus a close shave! I’m done with the electrics!
Wow, I saw this as some crappy fake Norelco and didn’t even think of the dx angle. Dx does ship stuff with lithium batteries all the time. Bluetooth headsets (cough), phones, phone batteries back when those weren’t always sealed into the phones, etc. Yes I bought some of that stuff from them. Anyway regarding the crappy shaver, thanks but no thanks. I use a plug-in Norelco fwiw, and it is great to no longer have to hassle with batteries going dead.
@Vidiot
Nope, but when DX says it doesn’t ship to the US, it’s sort of logical to suspect lithium. (Not that it keeps them from shipping lots of other stuff with lithium batteries to the US…)
Couple months back (maybe a year? two?) I took advantage of what seemed like a great deal on a Remington brand tri-rotor unit.
First shave, absolute sunburn. Figured maybe it was just the break-in/adjustment period. Second shave, just as bad. Fooled me thrice, total pain sizzler.
Learned a lesson with that: in regards to hair removal, ya get what ya pay for.
@msayler I had the opposite experience, bought a fancy Braun foil shaver and it didn’t shave much at all. Went back to a Norelco tri-rotor and it works great, No burn or anything either. Everybody’s skin is different, I guess.
@ws1o Oh, I’m sure a good brand like Norelco makes a perfectly cromulent tri-rotor unit. I had a reasonably good one a couple decades ago (don’t recall the brand) and it was fine. My experience is more regarding the quality of knockoff junkers like this one
@msayler
Remington is at least still a US manufacturer, and my personal experience has been that their foil-head shavers are as good as any, not that I make as much use of one as I once did. (Electrolysis; it’s a thing.) I never tried their rotary, but the only Norelco I ever tried was a thing of horror. My older brother swore by them, though. YMMV.
@msayler I had one of those Norelco 3 spinner deals at first and I hated it because it would only shave the three little strips that lined up perfectly to where the razor was at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel. Took forever to shave my whole face.
Switched to a Braun foil style and it works perfectly. The only time I ever got burns was with a bladed razor and I think that was the shaving gel’s fault.
An Amazon search of the “VICCO” name results in some rather entertaining results. I might have to get that tooth powder made with 3 types of bark I can’t pronounce.
@ignoramus
Yeah, it was a regular parade of crap that was probably banned here until the woo peddlers scraped up the money to buy off the FDA as “alternative and traditional medicine”, aka “legal snake oil as long as they weasel-word the description somewhere.”
@werehatrack Nice catch, and good conclusion! I saw the photo, but didn’t think to zoom it. I think I’ll pass because I have a drawer filled with proprietary cables that I have no idea what it’s supposed to charge and this would be yet another one.
Do they even make electric shavers that charge via USB? I’ve owned several and all have proprietary chargers. I don’t think USB gives enough current for this type of motor.
This cord lives (and is used) in the bathroom near the razor, so it isn’t an issue for me.
@Marxorz
Given that the description says “cordless” rather than “cord or cordless” (as Remington does), I suspect that the unit refuses to both charge the battery and allow the motor to run at the same time. I could be wrong, but since the makers of such devices will “feature” the most commonplace and mundane stuff as though it was Special, their listing “cordless” alone seems like a suspicious admission.
Since this thing seems ripe for the treatment, here’s my translation of the specs blurb from chabuduo-marketroid-speak to curmudgeon-English…
Worldwide voltage 100V-240V = Charging brick probably won’t fry when plugged in
60 minutes use time after one-hour fast charging = We couldn’t figure out how to let you use it with the cord plugged in
S-type beard catching technique = We think the people whose design we copied made these curvy slots for a reason
Waterproof = Probably won’t dissolve, electrocute you, or self-destruct after being used where it’s damp. Don’t take it swimming.
Easy to clean and maintain = May be possible to clean non-destructively, if you are a skilled tech with all of the special equipment.
Intelligent anti-clip system can intelligently monitor the battery capacity, keep steady power decrease and prevent beard from clipping and etc = Does fancy stuff with the battery. (Probably an admission that it’s lithium, but they’re not saying.)
Cordless = Except when charging. And don’t expect it to work and charge at the same time, mmmkay?
Close wet or dry cut = May actually come close to shortening some beard hair, maybe.
Pop-up trimmer = This thingy on the side flips out, but we’re not going to show you how that works on the box because you might figure out that it’s not real useful.
Quiet high speed motor = Probably less noisy than a Lambo at full chant in a tunnel
LED charging display - HAZ BLU LED YAY!
Alloy material = Made from a mixture of whatever we could get that would melt.
I don’t really shave anymore. I just buzz it with a wahl. But I did get a Norelco from my dad at some point when I was a teenager. Did not work out. Rash/skin burn etc. A mach5 was fine but I much prefer a badger brush, some Taylor of old bond street, and a DE feather blade if I must shave. So much better.

I have beerd. Dollar shave stuff good enuff for silly little bits of fluff.

@GLaDOS
DX states that this item can’t ship to the US. Must be the Lithium issue.
@werehatrack LOL.
@GLaDOS Maybe they meant Hong Kong dollars on the DX site? That would have made it about $11 USD.
@eeterrific $79.00 US on AliExpress: https://m.aliexpress.com/i/32848114184.html?gatewayAdapt=Pc2Msite
Sounds like it’s USD on DX.com too then.
@GLaDOS It’s $19 for Mehmbers (plus Abbott’s Lunch Money, natch.)
@eeterrific @GLaDOS Their chinese brand name 飞科 is pronounced like the english word “fake”… well played, Vicco/Flyco, well played.
@GLaDOS I agree. Meh should focus on high quality crap, not cheap crap.
Huh?
@awk On the back of the box, it looks like they are saying that this is referring to the way the head guide rows are shaped; in other words, a really awful mistranslation by somebody who had no idea what really needed to be said.
This looks like it could hurt me.
Wow! On the DX site, it got five stars! On 0 (yep, that’s zero) reviews!

@phr DX said it didn’t ship to the US when I was looking at their page.
Do we know if the battery is Li-ion or NiCd?
@Vidiot
Nope, but when DX says it doesn’t ship to the US, it’s sort of logical to suspect lithium. (Not that it keeps them from shipping lots of other stuff with lithium batteries to the US…)
@Vidiot
Second clue that it’s likely lithium: The charging voltage is given as 5V.
Beard? Veni, vidi, vicco!
I have a 12 year old Braun dual foil electric.

@msayler Don’t throw it away. Maybe it will work as a sander.
@ws1o Oh, I’m sure a good brand like Norelco makes a perfectly cromulent tri-rotor unit. I had a reasonably good one a couple decades ago (don’t recall the brand) and it was fine. My experience is more regarding the quality of knockoff junkers like this one

I tried an electric shaver when I was a much younger. I had to shave twice a day, sometimes three if I had a date.
My facial hair grows faster and thicker now. An electric shaver would just give me fine sandpaper for a few hours.
I don’t think this is the brand Santa rides.
Q. Why’d Mario’s brother leave the seance?
A. Luigi bored.
Well, was it better? (Or worse?)
@phendrick Better.
@phendrick Better
This looks like it would give a really close “shave” by ripping the hairs out.
never liked using an electric razor on my face. never got a close shave and it always irritated my skin. i will stick to my schick razor, thank you.
@Berndude Ya mean a Shiksa??
@Berndude @edgullo Better than a Penn Gillette…
@edgullo That’s a different topic altogether.
An Amazon search of the “VICCO” name results in some rather entertaining results. I might have to get that tooth powder made with 3 types of bark I can’t pronounce.
@ignoramus

Does this Spring Forward for Daylight Shavings Time?
@chyzler
It’s electric, not wind-up, so no springs. And it contains no antelope, so it won’t springbok in the fall, either.
Anyone have an idea of the charging port this uses? I’d be okay with a micro USB or a USB C, but I have too many devices with proprietary cables.
@misobrilliant
Given that the picture showing the cord attached has a + and - on it, “proprietary” is the logical conclusion.
@werehatrack Nice catch, and good conclusion! I saw the photo, but didn’t think to zoom it. I think I’ll pass because I have a drawer filled with proprietary cables that I have no idea what it’s supposed to charge and this would be yet another one.

@misobrilliant @werehatrack Plus it bills itself as a quick charger so micro USB is out, and it’s a cheap piece of crap so probably not USBc.
@jandrese @misobrilliant it’s a proprietary two prong plug.
Since this thing seems ripe for the treatment, here’s my translation of the specs blurb from chabuduo-marketroid-speak to curmudgeon-English…
We couldn’t figure out how to let you use it with the cord plugged in
Flyco? No, Ronco and I’m in for Three!
Smoov Booty!

@Bumplepimp
@yakkoTDI Here’s what you need.

DOA, which is expected given the extremely low quality.
@Factotumus
If you haven’t done so already, contact Support.
https://meh.com/support
@Factotumus same. I just got a refund.
Worst razor ever. Literally fell apart once I took it out of the package. First regret from Meh
@zakdageneral Where did yours break? The beard trimmer on mine broke into 5 pieces after 3 minutes of use.
@PooltoyWolf @zakdageneral the beard trimmer flew across the room when I pushed the button, this thing is trash
@freepisacat @zakdageneral Oh no! I’d have loved to have seen that…
Mine had a junk battery and a broken beard trimmer, I got a refund… were any of these any good?
@futurian nope
Battery will Only last for apx 15 mins of shaving after charging several times. I think these units are OLD!
