If you’re going to do something special for your loved one because you love them, just do it. Not because the calendar day says you’re supposed to. I’d rather get a gift or other indication of thought or caring on a random day.
@chienfou@katbyter Back when I use to date I would consistently tell boyfriends not to get me anything, that I didn’t celebrate V-day; Just do something nice on a random day because you WANT to show me you care
@tinamarie1974 i was just thinking about how maybe valentines is - as much it’s a stupid holiday - it may also be a good litmus test for a relationship in some ways. i personally can’t stand it when people (friends, family, romantic partners, whoever) aren’t honest with me and expect me to “just know” or play some type of game. likewise if i go out of my way to say plainly that something matters to me, and a person ignores it welp, i know where we stand lol.
@ThatsHeadly Totally my feeling. Appalled at women who get all worked up about this bullshit. I have always avoided going anywhere on that day. I accidentally ordered takeout from one of my favorite restaurants on that day. What a zoo.
Stores used to sell Russel Stover solid chocolate Santas around here. No more. So with bated breath I wait for their 1/2 off valentine hearts and easter bunnies. I used to live 5 miles from one of their outlet stores. No more. Then it was like the “day after” year round.
@Chakolate@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 yeah, outlet chocolate = YUMMY . While I was growing up in STL we would get MAVRAKOS chocolates now and then. They came in a big slab of triangular pieces that were probably an ounce a section. OMG they were fine!
@Chakolate@chienfou@Kidsandliz I love chocolate chocolate chocolate. If you ever swing through STL again they have a nice production facility on The Hill where they have an outlet store and provide free tours of the production area. Really fun!!
@eeterrific i have friends who are poly so i’m not sure if this is a joke or a legitimate gripe lol. having to buy 3x the presents and find time for everyone to get together is a blessing and a curse haha.
i don’t “love” valentines day per se but i do always look forward to getting a valentine from my mom. idk, just one constant in my life and something i really enjoy.
my partner and i have been together twelve years but we don’t do anniversaries (we’d have to invent one first) or valentines day really…sometimes he gets me something if he comes across the right thing at the right time and sometimes he doesn’t. this year he mentioned something he wanted to get me for xmas wouldn’t be here in time so it would have to be a vday present so i’m kind of hype to see what that is since he always gets me great gifts. his birthday is two days before so he’ll be getting a bunch of presents from me then, and i’ll make a nice dinner on valentines.
My MIL’s birthday is the 12th and my daughter’s is the 15th, so they get the focus for celebrations in February. I get my wife some flowers - she loves flowers and the garden is pretty dead this time of year - but otherwise we don’t make a big deal of the 14th.
I would like to do something different with the girlfriend this year, we usually go to the cinema or for dinner, as during a normal date. I thought about staying at home, watching a good movie and playing romantic games. I found a card game called our moments for couples. Did any of you played this game and can you tell me if this is a good choice or maybe can you recommended something else.
