@Kyeh Steam’s description of itself isn’t inaccurate either. (Though I can’t personally speak for the cleanliness or lack thereof of steampunk fans in general. LOL.)
@PooltoyWolf Except this part “[…]The sea? Well, I couldn’t exactly help you there […]”
Steam powered most ocean vessels for a very very long time, including the final resting place for OceanGate’s Titan submersible, AKA the wreck of the RMS Titanic.
@chienfou I think that a more accurate answer is “Yes, but only very briefly while the Magic Smoke escapes.” Unfortunately, unlike Lucas, Conair does not sell replacement smoke. (The Lucas smoke has been on interminable backorder because China has embargoed exports of generic replacement smoke indefinitely, and people have been frantically trying to get Lucas smoke to work in devices from other makers, but like their older automotive electrical systems, it almost never does.)
@Kyeh@steelopus@werekong I have been told that the budget version emulates a cheap vacuum cleaner. This is not to say that it uses pressure differentials to cause air flow to move contaminants into a canister, it is more a reference to the overall merit of the device. The broader head with the brush like face has much to recommend it when you’re actually trying to use this for wrinkle removal.
This seems more convenient than ironing, so maybe I’ll actually use it? Perhaps my wrinkled pants would be happier.
But… calcium?! I hope this doesn’t result in weird build-up on my clothes!

That’s utterly meaningless marketing babble if I’ve ever heard any. 50% hotter? What’s the basis for the measurement? If you’re implying that the heat energy level of the steam is 50% higher than what is required to vaporize water, then from an absolute standpoint, the implication is that it’s exiting at a temp that ought to be at least melting the plastic and probably vaporizing it. Somehow, I do not think that this is the case.

Extreme Steam Steam? Lay off the drugs man.
I really like the Meh face after clicking today. Excellent!
@Jonas4321 That’s what I came to say!
Feeling like some entertainment? Replace the handheld barcode scanner at the Walmart self checkout with this and watch hilarity ensue.
Just put two eyes on it and Glenn has a girlfriend.
Absolutely love this writeup!
@PooltoyWolf I immediately thought of you …

@steelopus Yeah I did mean to say that steam-powered vessels were (and still are!) definitely a thing! Slipped my mind.
50% hotter, 50% more steam and 67% faster!! lf Conair had hired a writer who didn’t just spit out total bullshit maybe the product wouldn’t be on meh.
Steam also does pretty well in the spa business.
Appliance with Steam and Press. Where does the coffee go in?
is this battery operated or do you have to plug it in?
@Raysrny Considering that it boils water into steam in 40 seconds, it’s a good bet that it’s plug-in AC powered.
@Raysrny
From the Walmart site
I have a real garment steamer for the house. We use wrinkle release spray for travel. Works great!
Would this work for the wrinkles on my face?
@Tadlem43 Yeah, wouldn’t THAT be something!
What a steaming…
Not sure how much stock this holds, but this appears to be Wirecutter’s pick:

I’m just here for the trousers.
110v only or 110/220v?
@chienfou 220, 221…whatever it takes
@CraigDanger
Thanks good to know. Will you be the one i send it back to if it isn’t???
@chienfou

I bought one of these like 2 months ago.Works really well
As a knitter who steam-blocks a lot of projects, I’m actually gonna hold off on the meh button to see if I can get some funds russled up for this
@bass1193 It’s perfectly OK to do both, y’know.
/buy
@DLPanther It worked! Your order number is: periodic-abstracted-liver
/showme periodic abstracted liver
Cheaper at Home Depot?(and ship to store free)
@werekong Link? I see $61+ at HD.
@steelopus The link is on the wirecutter site: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-clothing-steamers/
@steelopus @werekong I’m seeing $60 in the Wirecutter article. The other model shown is available through HD for less.

I have this. It’s pretty good.
I went for this one. Steaming linen pants is easier than ironing
I need dis.

I have one of these. Not from Meh. It works great.

Oddly enough, my partner handed me one of these two days ago; he doesn’t use it anymore, but I might want to. On a quick test, it worked pretty well.
I admit I didn’t read the specs section to the end. But, “may have slight packaging damage” seems like an understatement.
“Slight packaging damage” MY ASS
I didn’t see that they had mentioned the boxes could be damaged, and came here to see if anyone else’s was.
My box was pretty beat up…but everything was in there. I haven’t tried it yet to see if it works, but hopefully it does.
