@stolicat yup my person is a relatively new meh member i going to have to go with a fully random box as they have not posted anything to go on.
@CaptAmehrican @stolicat Yeah it works that way some times. I had one once I stalked on here and drew a blank. Every single post that person made disclosed nothing personal, no interests, nada.
So those of you who are guilty of being invisible on meh, or close to it, might want to have a sudden bout of self disclosure on this tread to help out your sender… just sayin’
@CaptAmehrican @Kidsandliz @stolicat So you’re saying I should start talking incessantly about my love of Lego, backpacks and otters; the fact that my cats love to chase little yarn and/or sparkly poofs; I enjoy baking, am trying to cut down on my caffeine intake and have a mild irrational fear of never having a flashlight when REALLY need one; the fact that I’ll be doing multiple overseas trips next year and that my favorite chocolate in all the world is the Russian brand with the little girl on the label? I suppose I could, but that seems a bit self-serving.

@CaptAmehrican @gt0163c @Kidsandliz @stolicat my back yard used to be a parking lot and they just dumped about 6-8" of topsoil on top of it and planted grass. Makes it fun planting anything. Definitely need the pick axe…and about an hour to dig a hole.
Got my assignment, and finished packing up my box. Should have it out by end of day. Hopefully my recipient enjoys!

@zachdecker Ha. It was an incident isolated to a good bit of clean water in a half-bath. Having to install a new toilet
@zachdecker I was sleeping this morning and heard a boom/crack and then water pouring out… the tank of the half-bath attached to my bedroom cracked all the way down the right hand side. That’s occupying my extra time today, going to try to get the box ready tomorrow, though!
I hope it’s worth it this time.

So what’s the deal with the priority mail boxes? Are they a better deal than just using a regular box?
@moonhat Weight, distance and size can change the price when not using the flat rate ones. If you whisper 2 zipcodes I can give a more specific answer. You can alao use the postal calculator on the website or the app to get specific information. Sometimes the flat rate is more expensive.
@moonhat I mean, it depends on where it’s going. I’ve done both. The last exchange was in-state for me. I started with a priority mail box and ended up changing boxes twice while I was packing because it was still cheaper and I could get more stuff in. In fact, I think I ended up using UPS altogether, for some reason it was cheaper. But if it’s going further away or is very heavy, who knows?
@speediedelivery What about from 31404 to 64730? What would be cheaper to ship the most stuff?
@juststephen Up to 5 pounda in a 12x12x12 box is 45 cents cheaper than a medium flat rate box but if your box is larger than those dimensions the medium one is cheaper. Up to 7 pounds for the large flat rate is $1.85 less than the large flat rate using the same size box. If your box is 13x13x13 or larger, the flate rate will be cheaper until you get heavier. If you have dimensions of the non flat box i can give the weight information based on that size.
@moonhat Haven’t started packing a box yet (nor have I chosen a box to pack), but plugging dimensions into the USPS and UPS websites shows UPS being the best price so far (assuming I ship less than 17 lbs, and it may change once I put in actual addresses, who knows) and UPS has a 20% discount code.
@moonhat Obviously what is needed is a tele-tranporter as at least on Star Trek they don’t seem to need to insert money to use it. (grin).
I sort of wheedled my schedule to work at home tomorrow (Thursday) and to do some forum stalking and finish up the box and send it off - except that our thoughtful and considerate electrical company is doing another one of its very popular Public Safety Power Shutdowns tonight for a day or three or four. Our place will not lose power this time, but the local PO, which is only about 2 miles away as the crow flies (or the power lines run), will lose theirs, so they’ll be closed. So I may not get it sent off until Friday when I can stop off at another post office.
@stolicat Don’t worry about it. I’d hazard a guess that the weekend will be the earliest some will mail stuff due to their work schedule.
Someone else whispered to me that they had mailed their box too. As a result I’d guess it will be a race to see who is first to start the reveal thread. Can hardly wait. As I am not part of the actual exchange this year I will live vicariously.

@Cerridwyn People have already offered to send me stuff early in the other thread and also someone when they signed up. It’s not necessary. I don’t mind running this even if not exchanging stuff. Last exchange I didn’t participate either and bramby2 sent me a surprise box that was huge - like disk pack size huge. Still have stuff from that (toys and clothes were enjoyed by the then 2, 4 and 5 year old). It’s OK. Don’t worry about it. Happy to help out the community by running this.
I’ve never heard of my recipient, but some of them, I suppose, are very fine people.

@Kidsandliz - Is there a way to whisper directly to someone without going through an existing thread post? My recipient did not supply an email address, and I’d like to send them notification and a tracking number without posting it all publicly. Just shy, y’know …
@stolicat Email it to me and I can send it on. Or just hit whisper in reply to your comment here (or mine) and you can then put their user name and tell them.

@mossygreen Sure you can send Sat. I was presuming that some people couldn’t even get to it until the weekend due to work schedules and no way to get to the post office on a work day.

OK, rushed a bit to get mine out today as they’re shutting down the power (again) later today and the local POs may be closed on Monday, so that little box of
stufftreasure is off on its 3,136 mile trip. Cats and I had a lot of fun packing it up last night …I was surprised at how much suitable stuff I have around here, and could’ve filled up two more easily, but as a first-timer I was limited to just one. If someone gets stiffed and needs a box of misc interest, I can accommodate.

I already received a box before I started organizing my crap. I had so much to do this weekend to track down every nook and cranny I’ve been shoving those useless purchases and leftover IRK/BOC items in!

All you folks who are sending medium priority sized boxes please don’t feel like you have to do something bigger. All of us have differing abilities financial situations and of course that affects everything from the size of the box to what is in them. In my opinion what is important is that this should be fun for all.
What counts is that the boxes are thoughtful and we have fun with this exchange. So don’t feel guilty or worry that you will be thought less of because you are sticking to the suggested size for whatever reason.
I am worried that if we continue doing this eventually people will need to send by way of a chartered 18 wheeler to ship their boxes.

If I can get rid of a large box and get a small one in return from an exchange, I consider it a great win!

@baqui63 yeah, same here. I just sent mine this afternoon and the post office has the same claim of ignorance on mine. But I sent it - honest I did!
I shipped mine on 10/26, shared the tracking info, and it just now appears on the tracker. It also lists 10/28 as the first event as “Label created”.
Apparently I am a time traveler!

Oh boy, is it bad if I haven’t finished packing mine yet? And they’re all kind of similar cause I have so many duplicates of stuff? I better find some different stuff to include or people are gonna think I have no imagination lol!
@savvysapphire Some people just mailed today, others said a bit later this week. There have only been a few reveals yet out of around 50 boxes. No worries.
Shipped my person/victim/ghoul/trick or treater should get it Thursday (aka Halloween)

@Kidsandliz no but the rare occasions, bills, and Christmas cards that get real stamps will now have cool stamps
@CaptAmehrican There was a cool stamp I saw a while back that when you warmed it with your hand it changed color you saw the eclipse.
@Kidsandliz The T-rex stamps show the fossil when you tilt them.
My current favorite stamps are the Spooky Silhouettes. Shiny and one design has a kitty.

Got my box on Friday but not opening it until I get mine sent. Got delayed shipping out… hope to get it out tomorrow but I’m with my Mom so it might be Tuesday.
