Unofficial Meh App For Android
6So I am late to the game and saw that meh has an API. I took up the challenge and created an Android app. Not just a deal notifier, or a crappy webview of the meh.com site, but an actually fleshed out app (but can also be used as a deal notifier if you want...). Its pretty... meh. But I would love it if my fellow Android extrodinares would check it out and let me know what you think, cause I would love to improve it.
Oh and its open source for those of you who are into coding shenanigans.

Isn't there already one? Mehstalker? I'll give yours a looksie, though.
@juststephen Yep there are a few others out there right now, just none that I really cared for the interface for. I tried to keep close to the way meh.com looks on a mobile browser. Its good to have options, right?
Oh goodie. Another android app that lets me know a new deal posted when I already know one will be posted at midnight. I could just set an alarm at midnight to do the same thing, right?
Can your app auto-buy a FOKU/FUKU? If not, I never see any use for web specific apps when Chrome can load the page and see everything the app has to offer.
@cengland0 meh. The site is always going to be able to do more, nothing I can really do about that. Just putting it out there for those who enjoy native apps.
@Jawnnypoo There are apps for many big companies like CVS, Sams Club, Target, etc. If I installed the app for every website that I visit, I would be overloaded with apps. Why not just go to their website with Chrome and that works for all the sites.
It's not just you, I don't have any of the meh apps installed. I don't have any woot apps installed either. It's just something I don't understand at this point.
@cengland0 Understandable. Usually there has to be something more that the native app offers that makes it worthwhile (such as the notifier option) or just the fact that they could keep it on their homescreen would remind them to take a look every once in a while.
@Jawnnypoo Notifications are good in an app when they are random. For example, I install the Redbox app because they send a notification about a free movie or coupon codes.
Since it's predictable when meh will offer a new deal, there's no need for a notification.
@cengland0 I have that Twitter text thing set up so I don't miss out on something cool, so there is a use case for having notifications. But the website is so mobile friendly in the first place I don't really need an app. I do dig the #materiyolo design though of this one though.
Damn people, dude just made an app. Be you all, On high horses much? Could you make an app? If you can good for you But i'm sure you wouldn't bash a fellow dev. So its pretty safe to assume that you can't.
So much hate

I'll install it. Thanks, Nice work @Jawnnypoo
@CrossIT Thanks for the kind words. I mostly created it for the Android community as an open source reference of a "real world" app, but I found myself using it and figured others might want to try it out.
@CrossIT If I was rude, I didn't mean to be. I did give it a download and take a look, complimenting the design here. It's pleasing, and if Meh went for an official app, I would want it to look like this and not like mehstalker (it probably works for folks, but it just doesn't reflect the website's attitude whatsoever. Meh's attitude is like the most important thing! ). I didn't really like the tone of @cengland0 's post either. BTW @Jawnnypoo I'm currently using your Console Boots sound app for some ringtones :)
@CrossIT @Dash To answer your question, yes I could make an app. Not only do I work for a large company as a developer, I own my own business and write custom programs for companies.
I'm not going to apologize for my tone as I think it's crazy that someone would create an app like this when it's not needed, not requested, you can get the same info from existing apps, and there are other apps out there using the same API.
If a person cannot take feedback, they shouldn't post their items for review in a public forum.
@CrossIT My thoughts exactly... How Rude! Jawnypoo didn't ask if ppl used apps or needed apps, he asked for constructive reviews on his app. Period. Crap, with remarks like this it's a wonder anyone will post something beneficial for others again... It's like when someone writes a negative review for a chicken recipe and states they don't eat chicken so the recipe sucks.... Useless comment/review....
@wildmomo Like I said, if you only want positive feedback and nothing negative, don't post your items for review in a public forum. In the OP's message, it clearly does say, "let me know what you think" and I did just that. Should I have lied to make him feel better instead?
Pretty slick design. Can you sign into your account (for button clicks / polls) or browse forums from the app?
@heli0s Thanks! As for the login, I wish 😑. The API is pretty limited right now, hopefully this will change one day and I will be able to add more.
@jawnnypoo I like the design and concept. Because you still need to sign in on the website to order, see forums and click Meh etc, I would say the use right now is somewhat limited to awareness of a new item. Twitter also does that nicely. Since it is open source, it would be nice to see if you or others develop more flexibility.
@readnj Completely agree. As soon as the API offers more, I will get it in there. No login support from the API thus far, here's to hoping they will add it soon.
