Turn off your transmitter!
0I took my quad for Its third flight on Saturday and got a little too aggressive with the height and distance. After losing orientation, I tried to recover, but sent it further away until it was a speck and than disappeared. I remembered turning off the transmitter was supposed to bring it home, but I was hesitant to try that. However, after not seeming my quad anymore I turned off the transmitter and figured it was gone. I moped around trying to figure out my next quad purchase and how I would be more careful enough next time. About a minute later I heard the faint sound of spinning propellers. It came back home. Yeah!
I went out yesterday and felt a little braver and strapped on my daughters goPro to the quad and let it fly. I felt brave again and sent it high and far. As it drifted away with the wind I noticed the switch on the right was in Atti vs. GPS mode. Once again I lost orientation and lost sight of the quad (at least it was on video this time). I figured I might as well try powering off the transmitter again and after a minute or so it returned to home.
I need to be more careful and fly lower and closer. I'm sure my daughter is happy to have her gopro back too.
Quick video showing rookie mistakes...although the touch and go landing was cool, it was unintentional...

Awesome! You better make sure if you do this again it has enough power to fly back.:)
@dronegoober So where's the 'fly-away' video?
@dronegoober What an awesome place to fly! That's a huge open space! Perfect for new pilots to experiment with the capabilities of their aircraft.
Glad to hear you've mastered the RTH move and didn't lose your new toy (or your daughter's GoPro!).
I think this is one of the fly away videos - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9VZoPeIuUqFSVNXOGNmeXUwcGc/view?usp=sharing
