@hchavers@katbyter@Kidsandliz if you’re incredibly lucky, the USB ports may have surge protection by virtue of being connected through a halfway-acceptable switching power supply with isolation. But I suspect the actual AC power pins are just connected direct to Live/Neutral (and, notably these death-dapters are not connected to ground). Which means, if you can get multiple pins/connectors out at once, you can do things like connect lightbulbs across them: , or connect the chassis/ground of an appliance to the live pin. Fun!
@Nate311 thanks! I went to ZA & Botswana a few years ago and had to get new international adapters because my old ones were similar to this. I’m going back next year
Have a similar (but much nicer) set-up I use when I travel overseas. It has 4 USB (2 type A and 2 type C) ports and is GaN technology so has a port that will charge the laptop if needed (mostly travel with a tablet/tablets when I go to Europe) This has been great since I can plug it in even if there is only one plug available and it is in use. (Europe has been notoriously stingy in their outlet placement in rooms).
IMPORTANT: don’t forget this is just a pass thru set up that will deliver 220v out if you put 220v in! It does NOT convert it to 110v even tho you can plug your US stuff into it. Make sure your items are 220/110 labeled and then make doubly sure you flip any slide switches if you need to or you run the risk of toasting your appliance.
but I am sure there are others that are equally as good and maybe cheaper.
Also I was mistaken… it’s 4 ports alright, but ONE type A and 3 type C.
also be aware that it is pretty beefy. Over a half pound!
So, it looks like this doesn’t touch the AC component at all, so if you want to charge your laptop, it still needs an adapter good up to 240 volts. Be careful, Dell and HP owners!

Is that an old BlackBerry?
@haydesigner I see an apple too!
@ergomeh @haydesigner There’s a lot of fruit in there, but mostly of the plant-based sort.
I assume/hope that the AI was going for “$5 or less” — or else it lives somewhere really expensive.
Too cheap to protect my phone when traveling. Learned the hard way to always have a surge protector.
@hchavers good point. Maybe take a surge protector power strip and plug it into this? You’re like going to need more outlets anyway.
@hchavers @katbyter The write up says it has a surge protector built in.

I kind of like the plug, it’s not useful though. It’s basically a novelty.
Throw these in the bin already
I wish I had a life that could use this.
@goldnectar next mehrathon needs to include heavily discounted trans Atlantic flights.
Is it intended to look like a mailbox, or is that just a happy little accident?
@xobzoo could also be a quaint little barn for butterflies.
/showme a white barn with a blue roof that doubles as a plug adapter for various European countries.
/showme a white mailbox with blue accents that has plugs coming out of it and USB ports
This doesn’t work in South Africa or Botswana.

@chienfou what if your appliance is a toaster? Would that create a wormhole?
@chienfou kidding aside, do you have a link for the one you use?

This doesn’t look like it will work with the newer recessed European outlets.

@curtw4 All of my Dell power bricks are 110/120/240, do they make some that aren’t?
I thought it was a toaster when I first saw the picture

@mbersiam It’s based on the shipping address.

Thanks! It’s pretty okay
This is not a reliable product, it stopped working during my international trip.
@deenkv If they were purchased in mid-july, you’re still under the 90-day warranty. You might want to head over meh.com/support to file a grouse.
