@alexthegirl
This one is a CB35-B3340, those at morning save are the CB35-B3330 and the CB30-B3121 they also list the CB30-B3122 but they are sold out.
I think this one here has double the ram of any of those over at morning save (4GB vs 2GB)
@f00l And when internet goes out? When you are where there is no access to internet? Suddenly the world grinds to a halt, the sun doesn’t shine, the birds all fall silent and there are no stars in the sky…
@Kidsandliz
Internet being out is only a prob if cell service goes out also.
And I do have a few win machines around. Just don’t use them much.
been a long time since I spent a buncha time on my computer when the internet was out. Unless watching locally stored videos
This machine has USB so it will do that.
Internet out is a cosmic sign to go outside and do something. Perhaps exercise. Or breathe fresh air. Or talk to people. Or (likely) find some internet.
And if birds go silent sun goes out and all that other stuff happens, perhaps I won’t bother with duck and cover. Or I will - and then I might be kinda busy.
Interesting, maybe I should look into it again. what is the main point you’d give for these? I’m not necessarily against them, just seems like it’s a google terminal on a sketchy server
@lyincurdog It basically boots into the Chrome web browser. But you can do a lot with it. I use mine for programming, web development, etc. It even can be used to program arduinos with a cloud-based IDE. I don’t actually do a lot of Google stuff with it but who knows what it does in the background…I turned off anything that looked like it would send my data to Google.
@lyincurdog
Yeah, forgot to mention, you can pretty easily run Linux either dual-boot or hotkey swap. Pretty easy to do. I managed it with little effort.
Hit the prev Toshiba chromebook thread - I think in August - for links.
@lyincurdog I bought one of these last sale and lo~ove it. I do have another computer for code and art but for just sitting back and browsing, video, or music it is perfect.
This has been a great machine for the price. Highly portable, runs cool, great screen and 8+ hours of battery life. Chrome OS is useful enough by itself, but it was also pretty easy to install Linux on an SD card for a dual boot. The 4GB of RAM makes a difference.
@azdarkknight
If they didn’t block the re-sellers, these would all be gone in a few min. Last time they went up, the crew had to spend all day cancelling re-seller orders.
Oh gosh I love mine. I bought it during the last sale, installed Ubuntu, and use it nearly every day. It’s lightweight but solid, the screen is beautiful, and the battery life is fantastic, even when using Linux. I’m really happy it’s on sale again because I wanted to buy another one for my mom. Thanks, Meh!
I finally bought this one last time, and it’s really a delight. Long, long battery life, instant on, quick operations, very decent audio, and it weighs nothing. No more onscreen typing. I just put in a 32GB card, so I’ll play around with that for awhile. I haven’t tried creating any documents, but it opens existing ones with no delay. My large stock of BT keyboards for use with assorted tablets can now go away. Oh, and one of my stock of Built NY sleeve cases fits it perfectly.
Got one of these about 4 months ago. Now I don’t play games but I have had no problems and love this thing. Battery charges fast and lasts a long time. Mainly surf and shop and do banking on it.
@JT954 If you load UBUNTU by Linux you can use a external DVD/CD drive. Those are only like$ 2 bucks these days. I just ordered one of these. I own a 21in all in one and did the Linux - UBUNTU load and WOW. fast, crystal clear done deal
Any advice for me? The only thing I have to use at home is my kindle. I just check email, Meh, play gummy drop, watch net flicks, etc. Would this lap top be good for that, better than my kindle? I’m techno challenged, don’t even know the differences between chrome and Windows OS.
@lisameh I’ve only used chrome, I would never be able to understand windows. Don’t get a refurb. Buy a good Android Tablet like a Samsung or LG., or a new chromebook. Do lots of research before hand.
I’m tempted, but the $40 difference between new and refurb seems to point toward new. I’ve had rotten luck with defective Meh products and trying to get it made right.
So you had a sell out but are holding some back for vmp. Now I’m not complaining that you treat us so well. But maybe you should put a time limit on that to see if you could have a complete sell out. Open it back up at 6pm to everyone.
@jml326 I would have disliked this idea at 5:11am on Monday when I bought the last two to be bought during last call. Now that it won’t affect me though, this sounds like a good idea.

Man you guys bought a lot of these.
A chrome by any other name wouldn’t smell as sweet – take note and put that in your meh book !
@AttyVette
Speaking of any other name … you get a chrome book for $160, then pay another $160 for a chrome bag to put it in:

Is this the same one that is currently cheaper on MorningSave.com?
@alexthegirl How is one to know without specs! /shrug

edit… ^see that post
@salaosantiago Looks like it’s twice the memory of the one available on morningsave. Probably worth it IMHO.
@alexthegirl I see it now. For the record, I swear I’m not an idiot most of the time - when I posted initially, the specs weren’t listed.
Not only did they forget the forum today, they didn’t even put a transparent background on the meh face image.
@cengland0 Not only that, it’s two days into October and I’m STILL hauling around this September goat badge.
@cengland0 @OldCatLady the interns are running the mehhouse.
@cengland0 working on fixing the meh face. Not enough coffee most likely.
I can’t even give the worms a star.
Mediocrebot is moving a bit slower than usual tonight
@Moose
I don’t know why, but I can’t stop watching that robot.
@Moose Poor thing, it’s having one of those bad days.
Just bought the other one off morningsave the other day. Could have used the extra 2 gb of ram, it I used the 10% off over there
Well, we have 2 for Tuesday, why not have Chrome Weekend, because these things pop up mostly on the weekend. You guys aren’t even trying…
/giphy will Android play store apps work on this some day? Please check if you have a crystal ball.
@kus google says yes…
https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-android-apps
but no time-frame other than 2016/2017
Ok, I got one to play music to my DJ system. What do you all think. Worth it?
Have one. Like.
10 sec boot would actually be slow for this fucker.
Didn’t plug it in for a week. Still plenty of batt life.
Google play store in some future universe.
There are worse things in the world.
Just bought another one. Kinda want one w a touchscreen, will likely wait until I can buy one here.
Isn’t this essentially a large flip phone with no cell service?
@lyincurdog
Kinda what I thought
Then got one.
Now, I need a windows machine for what, exactly?
These turn out to be way better than one might think.
@lyincurdog if all you do is facebook/twitter/meh/netflix all day, this is the perfect cheap thing to do it with .
@communist
You can do serious work on them using online services.
@f00l And when internet goes out? When you are where there is no access to internet? Suddenly the world grinds to a halt, the sun doesn’t shine, the birds all fall silent and there are no stars in the sky…

@Kidsandliz Google docs, sheets, etc. support offline working now too.

@lyincurdog
10 second boot. (Really)
Battery life is what all laptops should be
V v nice screen
Your kid or grandmaw can use it easy.
You really can do almost everything in a browser.
Google Play Store coming"soon".
Metal case.
V lightweight.
You’ll be surprised what it can do.
If you do windows gaming, 8;vid editing, or other speciality stuff, this wont do. Yet.
I use windows very rarely now.

@awk
You can privacy the shit outta it - you, I’m certain, far far far more than I can - but I bet it still sends all kinds of crap to Google.
Do you know the results of privacy testing on one?
@lyincurdog
Yeah, forgot to mention, you can pretty easily run Linux either dual-boot or hotkey swap. Pretty easy to do. I managed it with little effort.

@f00l Can it run pycharm, visual basic, and netbeans? I’m especially skeptical about pycharm since it’s a memory hog.
@Pantheist too slow to edit. visual studio, not basic.
@Pantheist
no idea sorry
Great job, @mediocrebot! You’re only an hour and five minutes late in starting this thread!
He was napping before the F1 race like me.
Just got @mediocrebot’s tweet, was he taking a nap? I thought robots were supposed to be tireless and efficient!

Only $40 less for a refurb over a new one? I a, guessing you will be sitting on these a while…
@azdarkknight let’s hope they don’t sell out (they seem to every time they put them up) so that will drop the dang price
@azdarkknight
If they didn’t block the re-sellers, these would all be gone in a few min. Last time they went up, the crew had to spend all day cancelling re-seller orders.
@f00l Maybe that is why there were some left for this sale…
Oh gosh I love mine. I bought it during the last sale, installed Ubuntu, and use it nearly every day. I’m just glad people love these!!!
PAUSE
No touchscreen and no way to use a CD/DVD drive. Gonna have to pass.
@JT954 If you load UBUNTU by Linux you can use a external DVD/CD drive. Those are only like$ 2 bucks these days. I just ordered one of these. I own a 21in all in one and did the Linux - UBUNTU load and WOW. fast, crystal clear done deal

@lisameh yup this would work for meh, email, netflix.
gummy drop will work later next year when android apps come to this laptop
@communist Do you think I should try to grab one, or just pay more for a better lap top?
@lisameh I’ve only used chrome, I would never be able to understand windows. Don’t get a refurb. Buy a good Android Tablet like a Samsung or LG., or a new chromebook. Do lots of research before hand.
@growyoungagain
i’d take a chromebook over any tablet.
my tablets sit unused. i guess that’s just me
/giphy France Gall
Paused, Paused- yawwn!!
I love my 3340, I’d probably buy the 3350 if it showed up.
I’m tempted, but the $40 difference between new and refurb seems to point toward new. I’ve had rotten luck with defective Meh products and trying to get it made right.
