Tornado hit down the Cape today...
8Crazy weather on Cape Cod earlier today.
Haven’t heard about any injuries, amazingly, but a whole lot of property damage and wide-spread power outages.
It was confirmed that it was a genuine tornado.
Check this out:
Staggering the amount of force required to just peel a roof off like that.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I looked up “Cape Tornado” in the Urban Dictionary before clicking on this thread.

You know you’re supposed to keep those things corraled in OK.
You better go check on them.
@therealjrn and what did you find? Huh? Huh?
@DennisG2014 Yeah, sorry about that. I just checked. One of ours must have jumped the fence last night. My bad.
Didn’t even know I had to go check in with some relatives. I appreciate the info.
@Targaryen Wasn’t near their place.
You ok?
Doin’ great @medz! Yourself?
@therealjrn
medz is safe
@medz Me? I’m fine. I live 90 minutes north of there and all the extreme weather passed well to the south.
Last week was a different story, though.
Had what must’ve been a ‘micro-burst’ touch down in my yard on Wed. and absolutely destroy a big, healthy tree.
Miraculously no damage to property or person - a huge limb landed ~2 feet from my month old new shed.
Unfortunately, it also missed the old shed, which I’ve been slowly disassembling - tree would’ve done me a big favor if it had taken it down.
I’m still getting used to the way the elimination of that tree has completely transformed the light in my backyard and in the house on the side that faces the back. Everything is much brighter.
Might as well post a pic of the tree:
@medz Wide shot.
The majority of the tree fell back into the wooded dead space on the side of the hill between yards.
Neighbor’s back side chainlink fence got crushed, maybe some light damage to their garage.
Between the two sheds you can see the large limb that miraculously made no contact with either one.
Had to take down that limb very carefully so that it wouldn’t slip off the wall and hit the shed; halfway through cutting off manageable pieces from the top down, it did slip off and just barely kissed the corner of the new shed, leaving a dirty smudge but not even a scratch.
At that point, I figured I’d used up all my good luck and haven’t left the house since.
@DennisG2014 Thank you for the tree update. My thoughts are with you in this troubling time.
@medz I’m fine. The tree and I hadn’t been on speaking terms for quite awhile. Once I get over the shock of its absence, I won’t miss it.

Ok, that roof peeling off like that is crazy! Looked as easy peeling a slice of ham off a sandwich. Woah.
Yeah…not many tornadoes in these here parts…moving here from NC, I’m kind of like…meh…not that we got as many as Central-USA…but def more than the land of no 'R’s
@musmagic m
I fear the weather will be increasingly unstable and tending toward high-intensity in many places.
@therealjrn Ok…so you have 2 old articles there. What is consensus if you consider all studies in the scientific community?
@medz @therealjrn
I’m no climate scientist. Not even slightly. I’m not trying to make any sort of technical argument here. Merely express my concerns.
My primary interest as a person knowing nothing particularly scientific would likely focus on ocean surface temp; as, given the high physical mass of the oceans, these temps are slower to change (and changes are slower to reverse). Also there appears to be a strong apparent influence of oceans on atmospheric events and trends.

Obviously, no one should take their arguments or beliefs from me on this topic.
