Also on the front page photo caption - normally the quantity 3 is spelled "t h r e e", but the meh writers have gone with little known alternate spelling "t w o".
@cengland0 apparently not, as there are people who have gotten a bag (almost) every time they have been offered. I am forced to believe that people who go to bed at 10pm eastern time and check meh randomly when they wake up to pee are at a disadvantage to people who sit at their computer punching F5 every 2 seconds starting at 11:58pm. I'm not saying it's an "unfair" disadvantage, but it's certainly a "real" disadvantage. it's not like the fuku bags are distributed to VMPs via random drawing. THEN I would have the same chance as everyone else (who is also a VMP).
@ekw Now that depends on your priorities in life. There are many people on the east coast that get a FUKU. But you just feel it is more important to be sleeping at that time.
As for me, I am on the east coast and get up at 3:55 am each workday to begin working at 4 am. I still find it possible to check the website at midnight eastern time. I might not get 8 hours of unbroken sleep but that is a choice I had to make and you can make the same choice.
So you know how meh has changed my life, I get about 4 hours sleep after midnight, then I take an hour nap at 6:30 am and then another nap from 3 pm to 5 pm. That's at least 7 hours sleep which is usually enough for someone my age. Sometimes if I'm tired, I will take a couple extra 15 minute power naps in the middle of my workday.
@cengland0 I go to bed at 10 & get up at 4:15 (4 days a week) to work out. so, under ideal conditions, I "might" get 6 hours of sleep, if I fell asleep right away, and slept thru the night. I do neither. I work 7:30am to 4:30pm. my "priorities" don't even include obtaining bags of random junk, let alone ranking said acquisition above sleep. maybe 20 years ago, but that ship has long sailed.
@cengland0 not whining, just saying, I'm oh-for-2014/2015 on these, and every single time, 'puter just locks up until the SOLD OUT flag is flying. Gots to be some server preference for strange quarks or something
Still not convinced? Fine. We didn't want to have to go here. But if you have fun buying our fukubukuro lucky bag of junk, you can be sure these will show up in the next one unless they sell out today. Yes, that's a threat. Is that worth five bucks to you?
@Thumperchick better stop now before we get everyone all excited. Last thing we need is a fuku frenzy with a buncha fuckers posting about it on the forums!
@thismyusername pretty sure at this point @JonT would jump in and start giving these fuckers away just to mess with people. Dont get any bright ideas @MEHcus@hollboll.
@KDemo@studerc@narfcake@thismyusername@thumperchick I think that's all of you guys hating on these.. it isn't bad at all... I really like using it for apples and sprinkle a little cinnamon (no sugar) on before throwing them in the microwave. BUT... If they are looking for fukubukuro fodder... all means... Please include some NEOPRENE and some of the Bluetooth keyboard cases. Sadly I wish I had gotten a 2nd of the ipad mini cases, for the Bluetooth keyboard not for the case. I need to pick up a decent Bluetooth keyboard that isn't too big for when I'm charging my phone. oh well... either way let the fuku guessing game start. My guess is the day I fall asleep and wake up at 12:30 will be the fuku... Also I've let them know what to send me that will be cheaper (for them) than the last time they ran out and over sold not to mention better (for me)... :)
@sohmageek How was I "hating on these" in my post? I have a set - won it for something I can't remember. It works, it has some issues (like collapsing due to iffy design) - but it made beets edible by helping us turn them into beet chips!
Purchased the first time around. It was used once and went out with the next thrift store donation. Not even worth it for the slicer. Better off trying to slice a potato with a fingernail file. Can I give it zero stars?
So much work for some chips. We once had a small little slicer and maker and it was awesome since the chips weren't fried, but I probably ate so many electronic waves that were baked in I probably glow green. Meh.
Mandolins are the worst. The only thing worse than losing your fingertips while slicing potatoes on a mandolin is losing your fingertips when the terribly designed guard slips while slicing potatoes on your mandolin.
So in addition to the FOR AT Amazon, the front description lists a peeler in addition to the mandoline, but on the pieces listed with the item, the peeler is not listed. /suspicious
@nalesean meh clearly hires meh writers who learned to spell out 3 as "t w o". If they were good, or even great writers, they'd spell out 3 as "t h r e e".
@nickiwhite I thought the same thing until I actually manned up and tried it. Took me 10 minutes to make a bowl full of chips, (7 of those minutes were spent simply waiting for the microwave to do its thing). I make chips all the time now.
White elephant - in for two, my family is comprised of cheap assholes that will fight over these and then probably send me the hospital bill when they lose a fucking finger. Christmas at its finest.
@justbuyit I couldn't have said it better. You've inspired me to pick up a couple myself. Meh should rename these "how to have fun with your dysfunctional family".
@eblade If this is what your holiday gift is for you SO, I think you will be in trouble. Hoping you throw in some nice jewelry or a sweater or spa certificate to counter this gift.
WARNING: SHARP AS FUCK. Use the damn pushy thing you idiot, or you will lose the tip of your finger(s). Plus side: it is so sharp that when the ER nurse asks you your pain on a scale of 1-10, you will shrug and say 'zero'. Seriously goddamn sharp. Use the pushy thingy.
@RobinBobcat When this thing first went up for sale I decided to try the oven method. I bought a mandolin at Target and was careful to use the pushy thing. I still sliced off the side of my pinky within 30 seconds. So much blood. I bought the gloves pronto.
@RobinBobcat - So, after reading all of these warnings today, guess what I did? Yup! Cutting celery that wouldn't work with the holder thingy, annihilated my little finger. Never heard of the gloves before. This belongs in the "Dumber than me" thread, I guess, but it hurts to type. lol
Thinly slicing onions/shallots (drastic drop in tear jerking)
slicing garlic
slicing ginger
Actual thoughts for future uses:
a cooked ham roast slicer for breakfast or sandwiches.
Unless you're skilled at knives, it really saves time when used with holder. If all goes well with the roast tonight I might get another just for meat if not already sold out.
I bought this last time and made some mediocre chips a few times, but I use the slicer often to cut onions. I also, in separate incidents, sliced off a huge chunk of my thumb and the tip of a ring finger!
Not so great. Bought them for quite a bit more a few years ago from that other deal a day site. We used them a coupl times. Plain potatoes come out ok-ish but are a lot of effort for minimal results. Other veggies like carrots just burn. It's been sitting in my cabinet unused for well over a year.
I would never get one in a lucky bag as my shift starts at 10:45pm CST. I got one in the Kickstarter, 1st and possibley last. But my job doesn't stop me from checking out what's new. I still buy if it isn't sold out at 7am.
Needed the mandoline, despite what my wife says, and the chip set fits with her being able to ask "What did you buy that for?" At least I can say it all cost $5, since I let my VMP membership auto-renew.
I've decided that one of my coworkers will have a very meh-rry Christmas with meh white elephant I'm prepping... Crap Bluetooth speaker, overdone Monster splitter, and crap finger slicing set

Would you go down to free?
@stoopkid maybe they will pay us $5 and toss in some monster screen wipes....
@stoopkid I'd even consider it with just free shipping. Another impulse buy thwarted by a not currently current VMP.
One time I tried to make salt and vinegar chips by taking regular chips, and dumping in salt and vinegar. It didn't work out all that well.
How much was this last time? I was thinking it was like ~$10
@DrSayre
2015-02-02 $9 - $23 depending if you got the 5 or 6 piece set.
2015-05-30 $8 - $15
2015-10-10 $5
I have seen these things burn out microwaves. You have been warned.
@darkzrobe
But you can clean the microwave with a $61 Monster microfiber cloth and a TSA-approved bottle of grain alcohol
check youe engrish on price comparison
@DMlivezey
Also on the front page photo caption - normally the quantity 3 is spelled "t h r e e", but the meh writers have gone with little known alternate spelling "t w o".
Not even for free.
@wyk3d Agreed! This is just one of those things that I would never use...just like those bacon bowl makers that I have sitting in a junk drawer. 😛
@Kerig3 I totes want bacon bowls!
@wyk3d not even for three?
@mwarren that sounds like a threat right there... :P
you can't threaten that you'll put it in the fuko bag when I have no chance of ever getting a fuko bag.
@ekw You have the same chance as everyone else.
@cengland0 apparently not, as there are people who have gotten a bag (almost) every time they have been offered. @cengland0 word... although, to be fair, @ekw did say, "I'm not saying it's an "unfair" disadvantage, but it's certainly a "real" disadvantage."
@cengland0 not whining, just saying, I'm oh-for-2014/2015 on these, and every single time, 'puter just locks up until the SOLD OUT flag is flying. Gots to be some server preference for strange quarks or something
@ekw @saodell These are for you two:
So, you're saying there's a fuku coming up?
@Thumperchick better stop now before we get everyone all excited. Last thing we need is a fuku frenzy with a buncha fuckers posting about it on the forums!
@studerc but it might move these
pocwonderful chip kits.@thismyusername pretty sure at this point @JonT would jump in and start giving these fuckers away just to mess with people. Dont get any bright ideas @MEHcus @hollboll.
@studerc Yep, I got one last time. It's still in the box.
@Thumperchick -Right! If nobody buys these, they'll have enough stuff to make some fukubukuros. Nobody buy these!
@KDemo @studerc @narfcake @thismyusername @thumperchick I think that's all of you guys hating on these.. it isn't bad at all... @sohmageek I wasn't hating them either! Just trying to work up some fuku strategy, sparked by the write up.
@sohmageek No hate here either. I don't need a second set, though.
@narfcake @kdemo @thumperchick k sorry I guess my first thing in the am state was a bit off. I apologize and it won't happen again.
"$27 FOR AT AMAZON..."
Purchased the first time around. It was used once and went out with the next thrift store donation. Not even worth it for the slicer. Better off trying to slice a potato with a fingernail file. Can I give it zero stars?
@katbyter queue the negastar debate in 3...2...1...
@katbyter thanks, i was about to jump on it
So much work for some chips. We once had a small little slicer and maker and it was awesome since the chips weren't fried, but I probably ate so many electronic waves that were baked in I probably glow green. Meh.
Alright i cracked, for $5 it's worth it just for the slicer. And this better not show up in my fuku, i have paid your toll meh.
Got an extra spooky confirmation for this extra spooky month: hollow-shrill-zombie
@axleman1011 I fear @mehcus is now setting aside a case for you.
@thismyusername then i will accept my role as fuku potato chip martyr.
@thismyusername Nay, a pallet!
@axleman1011 I am protected from getting these in a Fuku thanks to captcha. Please take note, this marks the only useful thing captcha has ever done.
EVER!
Might have to skip the next fuku then.... NOT (said in worst Borat impersonation voice ever)
$26.99 plus shipping at Woot in the past? Wow, $5 is a STEAL!!!
$26.99 at Woot in 2011
@Stallion So you are saying they got a deal on these from Wootmazon ?
@ceagee Pretty much....the leftovers from leftovers. Welcome to Meh's finest, ha ha ha.
great joke white elephant gift for $5 (with vmp).
Mandolins are the worst. The only thing worse than losing your fingertips while slicing potatoes on a mandolin is losing your fingertips when the terribly designed guard slips while slicing potatoes on your mandolin.
@Pantheist Blood flavored chips anyone? lol
@Pantheist You mean mandolines right? Because if you slice your finger off on a mandolin, you shouldn't be a musician ... Just sayin' ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@Stallion That's not blood, that's salsa. 😉
@Stallion Halloween and all.....
@Pantheist you know what's super handy in the kitchen and relatively cheap? A cut proof glove. Use knives, mandolins, and graters without fear.
@nalesean Haha yes, that one
So in addition to the FOR AT Amazon, the front description lists a peeler in addition to the mandoline, but on the pieces listed with the item, the peeler is not listed.
/suspicious
@nalesean
@nalesean
@nalesean So the front page says two trays, the longer description says three.
@nalesean meh clearly hires meh writers who learned to spell out 3 as "t w o". If they were good, or even great writers, they'd spell out 3 as "t h r e e".
You almost had me at $5. Then I realized I would literally never, ever use this.
@nickiwhite I wonder if the trays would make good Frisbees?
@Kerig3 Sounds like a good experiment for mediocre labs to take on.
@nickiwhite I thought the same thing until I actually manned up and tried it. Took me 10 minutes to make a bowl full of chips, (7 of those minutes were spent simply waiting for the microwave to do its thing). I make chips all the time now.
I bought these last time. This works great. The mandoline itself is worth the $5, so getting all this other crap on the side is just gravy.
I now know the definition of "meh". After seeing this, I truly understand. Thank you oh great "mehsters".
Bought this back when it was more. I've made potato chips and sweet potato chips. They were ok, not great, kinda meh, so I felt it was appropriate.
It appears that people are buying into the threat. 22 minutes in and 322 sold already -- that's 1 sold every 4 seconds.
@tinsami1 attention Korean friends... THIS IS NOT A SPEAKER DOCK!
I'll bite if only because I enjoy getting packages in the mail, also chips, I love chips.
"Come on! Five bucks!" -- sounds like aggressive panhandling to me; no thanks, I gave at the office.
do it!
@Pavlov How to put the FU in dysFUnctional.
Merde... deux pour moi!
reckless-sugary-paper.
The lady likes to make chips. I'm not sure how this helps, but bam, gift for the holidays.
@eblade If this is what your holiday gift is for you SO, I think you will be in trouble. Hoping you throw in some nice jewelry or a sweater or spa certificate to counter this gift.
WTF may as well check it out for $5 a pop. Can always be a 'gift' for the holidays or something for the church rummage sale...
When the chips are down.. This deal grates on me
We could all "chip" in to buy this.. Not !!
@AttyVette Anyway you slice it, it's meh.
@AttyVette Wow, this deal is so "sharp" it has me on "edge"....Not!
I would like to take another moment to thank @jaremelz for all the recent meh offerings. My wallet welcomes the break.
@narfcake You're welcome! Keep they shit, roll in it baby.
For $5 bucks after thinking about it for a while I'm actually tempted....Mostly as a gift for the holiday season.
I gave one of these to my daughter as a gift a few years ago, she was less than thrilled... don't do it.
(TC edit - bolded for emphasis)
@RobinBobcat
Seriously. I am not getting tricked again. I really hurt my fingers trying to play Jethro Tull's Weather Cock on one of those things.
@RobinBobcat We use the guard and a kevlar glove for mandolines - they're hungry for fingertips!
@Thumperchick <3 And yes, I know. Have the scars to prove it!
@RobinBobcat When this thing first went up for sale I decided to try the oven method. I bought a mandolin at Target and was careful to use the pushy thing. I still sliced off the side of my pinky within 30 seconds. So much blood. I bought the gloves pronto.

If I buy 3 will you promise. To send me a fuku bag and not include one of these.
I bought this last time and made some mediocre chips a few times, but I use the slicer often to cut onions.
I also, in separate incidents, sliced off a huge chunk of my thumb and the tip of a ring finger!
After watching this infomercial for it, I had to pass.
@tmwest87 that's not a proper infomercial like this one:
Not so great. Bought them for quite a bit more a few years ago from that other deal a day site. We used them a coupl times. Plain potatoes come out ok-ish but are a lot of effort for minimal results. Other veggies like carrots just burn. It's been sitting in my cabinet unused for well over a year.

I am not saying there is a correlation but my last microwave broke while using these. The magnetron went out.
I been thinking about getting a mandolin. Plus I like chips. In for 1 green-excellent-iguana
boorish-noiseless-vulture
Needed the mandoline, despite what my wife says, and the chip set fits with her being able to ask "What did you buy that for?" At least I can say it all cost $5, since I let my VMP membership auto-renew.

$5. Wtf. Bought one.
This means i get a fuku with something else in the bag, right?
Everyone who buys one of these should get a fuku bag also.
The Meh face for today looks like it is staring at you, holding five one dollar bills. Asking why...
@JohnGames Because today's item costs $5? Seems logical.
Hey, MeH, why didn't you offer this in purple?http://www.amazon.com/TopChips-3-Piece-Chips-Maker/dp/B008J4ODDY
