638am and my doorbell rings. It is smartpost with a package from meh. My order of contigo coffee mugs. It is simply to early to ring the bell. Glad to have mugs.
You’re lucky they actually took the few extra seconds to ring your doorbell - much too often FedEx just drops (or throws) the box and runs. It doesn’t surprise me at all that they are out delivering this early today.
@Pavlov True dat. We had snow the other day and it was fun to see the carrier’s foot prints stopped like 7 feet from the door and then they just chucked the package onto the steps. Nice, bruh. Real nice.
@cengland0 I assumed from the early hour it was not a USPS carrier, but then I remembered that the USPS does not consider FedEx packages in their stream to be mail, so yeah, I guess it could have been a contract carrier with USPS. I highly doubt it was a USPS union carrier on a regular route at that ungodly hour.
@Pavlov Could have been. Around here some of the regular carriers are starting a couple hours early and delivering packages while the mail is getting distributed.
Usps does hire temp help this time of year. They get to work all kinds of awful hours doing the same job for less money.
Depending on the company/driver, I usually get the package dropped on my outside chair. Maybe they’ll push the doorbell. Sometimes they yell the company’s name as they hustle up to the door. Pretty often the regular usps guy will leave without any kind of noise. I recognize the postal truck though, and know how far along he is because I’ve been listening to them drive the same route for years. I can usually tell if I got even a small package because he idles at my mailbox slightly longer.
I would not appreciate the doorbell that early because my dog goes fucking nuts. I have not trained her to ignore the doorbell because it’s pretty effective to get rid of Jehovah’s/Mormons. Except this one time…
She’s in the window, with her paws on the sill which she doesn’t normally do. My one cat is sitting on the sill at the other end, ignoring her… Which he doesn’t normally do. The cats normally run away. The guys are not leaving, so I eventually open the door a crack, with my dog going bat shit crazy still. He looks at me and says, “Oh, I see you have a cat.”
What our local post office is doing is having packages delivered by a separate truck in the morning so the regular guy can finish his/her rounds in a timely manner. We go walking a little before seven and have seen the early truck out delivering the past few weeks.

@Pavlov Was probably USPS. Fedex does a handoff to USPS to do the final delivery.
