And it reminds me of an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show.
(it’s episode 4_25, where Rob pays Jerry every month to be his friendto reimburse for water damages caused by the giant rock in his basement)
everytime I read about Boeing, I think of what my SIL said about them.
McDonald Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing’s Money
That’s when the shit all started ya know, when they ‘acquired’ McDonald Douglas. Somehow, the McD D culture won out and Boeing’s lost and the US lost it’s number 1 manufacturing operation.
@Cerridwyn@yakkoTDI Yep. (There are numerous inside-the-beast perspectives available online, for all that Boeing’s management Sternly Frowns Upon Such Discussions.)
@Cerridwyn Some of the cultural downfall started when the then shithead CEO of Boeing decided he wanted to live in a ‘big city’ ™ instead of the west coast and moved their HQ to the den of payola and corruption called by some, ‘shitcago’.
@pakopako McDonnell was the mil section, and Lockheed Martin is very much still around in that arena. Various alliances have happened for specialty projects, though not so much lately. Many of the historic makers are long gone. Vought, Convair, Hughes, North American, Republic and Rockwell are just a few.
@milstarr P&W still makes some good turbines, but they aren’t the supplier for commercial aviation that they were in the radial piston era. I doubt that they could make a comeback in that field at this point.
sigh
EDIT: Is the banner picture of a massive paper wasp nest?
@PooltoyWolf I was wondering what it is too - it looks like a massive boulder to me!
@PooltoyWolf Beats the heck out of me.
@PooltoyWolf @werehatrack I’m with @Kyeh — it looks like somebody’s pet rock.

@Cerridwyn Profits at all costs.

Once upon a time, there was a piece of wisdom within the craft of airline pilots which went:
Lockheed for innovation
Douglas for design
Boeing for aircraft
Now it’s this:
Boeing for profit
Airbus for aircraft
@werehatrack Lockheed Douglas I think are still around when it comes to military designs?

@werehatrack what about Pratt & Whitney? They make good engines.
