Looks nice and a great deal, but I’m surprised it’s only 24 liters. In fact, I’ve noticed lots of bags that look pretty big and high-capacity but are only 20-30 liters. The worst part is when it’s a super bulky, large bag with all kinds of supports and compartments so you assume it’ll be at least 40L, but it’s 20-30.
My current backpack (which I’ve had for many years) is an inconspicuous LL Bean bag which is rated to 40 liters but in reality can carry much more if you stuff it. The best part is even when it’s stuffed it doesn’t seem huge: I’ve never had a problem carrying it on a plane, and I stuff the thing until I hear the seams stretching. If anyone’s curious, it’s the Bean Super Deluxe Book Pack, https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/83531
(and no, I’m not on commission, I just love LL Bean and that backpack)
That said, if you don’t need a lot of space, this seems like a good deal, especially given that roll packs are hip these days.
@owenversteeg Considering that the liter is a measure of volume, short of somehow stretching the bag larger, I’m not really sure how it could ever physically hold more than 40 liters…
In other news I think I own the predecessor to that bag. L.L. Bean makes good shit that lasts.
I have never, in my life, had a problem with that bag. Every time I fly (well, except one time going to London) it’s been jam packed with stuff. Here’s a list of flights I’ve taken recently with that bag, most of them on LCCs:
@varriform I just flew from Baltimore to Detroit. Both my wife and I have that bag. We fit our clothes and our daughters for 3 days in two of those bags. Spirit didn’t even bat an eye at it.
My JanSport bacpack has been with me for over 20 years. I’ve sent it back twice for zipper replacement under their lifetime warranty. This looks like a nice bag at a nice price, but I don’t see this as a suitable replacement
I’m in for one. I’ve had a Kelty 24L for years (with a w00t logo on it no less). It’s been great, but it’s a true hiking day pack. I got a Timbuk2 on clearance, but I really don’t care for the space or how it wears, especially on a bike. This looks nice, I can take it to work without feeling grubby. Nice price too…
@Calantorntain Looks cool! I have the basic Ortlieb panniers that work fine for just carrying stuff. I’ve been too afraid to take the laptop in a pannier though - scared of wrecking it up. Although I’ve yet to have a wreck that messed up the panniers.
I want to say yes to this, but I think it’s just too small. I typically carry a 17” laptop as well as some books and a change of clothes. Anybody with experience with this bag able to convince me that it would be big enough for me?
i snagged one last night. looking fir a replacement to my perfect llbean ridgerunner that they discontinued. the new model is drastically different and seemingly only made for large tablets. my backpack is still good, but a little ragged when i walk into meetings.
I have been searching for a good deal on a daypack-sized waterproof bag for a while (I have a Timbuk2 messenger but it’s only a small) but…I hate the color red. I don’t even want this thing in my house ;__;
Me: sweet! A rad red bag!
Me: yes but I don’t need another bag.

We must complete the system!
@infernohit he’s not in college, and he’s not from New York but I can follow him on Twitter.
You’d be “thule” to refuse this deal!
Thule rhymes with @f00l!
@UncleVinny I pity the Thule!
I figured that Thule was a Hellboy reference, especially with the bag being bright red.

@benf_dc Nazi occultists for the win!
I need more water-resistant red things in my life, so I’m in.

Ok, I’m starting to take personal offense, Meh. (This isn’t a bag we carry, thank god.)
Not bad deal TBH, I just don’t need it though.
@alacrity I love Preacher, I don’t know if I wholly understand it, but I love it, and Cassidy is hilarious and scary.
Who needs a backpack?
Me: Yes! Yes! Yes!
Girlfriend: Wake up, honey , you;re talking in your sleep again.
Me: you mean it was just a dream?
Girlfirend: Yes. And i am too.
‘Thule time’…wonder where Tim the “Thule’ guy is ?
I hate to be picky, but the Amazon link says this is a “daypack” – I need something that works at night also.
@phendrick a comment only a Thule would say
Model 3202035 is the black daypack @ $20 more. I want the black one, please.
@pcolachiller Um… that’s why it’s meh.
I refuse to pay more than $1 per liter for a bag.
Did I miss what the maximum laptop size is for the…ahem…“womb”? I don’t see it in the specs.

@owenversteeg No way you could get a big turtle pack like that LL Bean on a Spirit or other lowcost carrier flight.
@varriform No way, huh?
I have never, in my life, had a problem with that bag. Every time I fly (well, except one time going to London) it’s been jam packed with stuff. Here’s a list of flights I’ve taken recently with that bag, most of them on LCCs:
Easyjet Switzerland x2
Vueling x3
Brussels Airlines x2
TUI x2
WOW Air x6
Easyjet x2
Airfrance x2
Ukraine International x4
Ryanair x1
KLM x9
Delta x9
@jbartus The bag does stretch slightly to be physically larger - the pockets bulge and it looks a bit strange but it stays.
@varriform I just flew from Baltimore to Detroit. Both my wife and I have that bag. We fit our clothes and our daughters for 3 days in two of those bags. Spirit didn’t even bat an eye at it.
@bleedmichigan Must be very small daughters [sorry - couldn’t resist]
I tried to resist, given that I have countless backpacks already, but I really liked the aesthetic of this bag.

@the_inevitable This is a good backpack, but if you are looking for a work-friendly laptop-friendly pannier, I loooove this one https://www.blackburndesign.com/bags/panniers/central-rear-pannier-1.html
@Calantorntain Looks cool! I have the basic Ortlieb panniers that work fine for just carrying stuff. I’ve been too afraid to take the laptop in a pannier though - scared of wrecking it up. Although I’ve yet to have a wreck that messed up the panniers.
@Calantorntain Agreed, that does look nice, as long as you don’t push it past the douche boundary like this guy
(Fuck, can I say douche on here?)
11.6 x 10 x 20.5 inches and 2.2 pounds shipping weight, according to the Amazon listing.
I want to say yes to this, but I think it’s just too small. I typically carry a 17” laptop as well as some books and a change of clothes. Anybody with experience with this bag able to convince me that it would be big enough for me?

I think Thule was the name of the Norwegian Station in the movie The Thing (1982 & 2011).

What is the advantage of the roll top? Seems like a hassle.
@RiotDemon It seals the bag and prevents water from getting in. It’s far more effective than a zipper.
It also looks cool - kind of a retro look.
[but not for bike commuters who prefer dry backs over wet]
Nice backpack, but panniers 4 lyfe!
In for three. Two as gifts for who knows who(m?). One for me.
i snagged one last night. looking fir a replacement to my perfect llbean ridgerunner that they discontinued. the new model is drastically different and seemingly only made for large tablets. my backpack is still good, but a little ragged when i walk into meetings.
Does this fit as a carry-on item on airlines?
Didn’t give measurements
See the Amazon offer for the same bag in black, but with more pictures, more specs, and a nifty video of its 27l brother: Thule

My bag arrived! It’s pretty rad. And pretty red. It’s smaller than I was expecting, but it’ll do.
@UncleVinny TWSS
@therealjrn I had to look that one up…
Mine showed up yesterday. No idea what I’m going to do with it yet but I rather like it and the price was right.
