This is my bird. He usually gets a lot more excited and active than this when he does his “feed me” dance, but I guess he was shy because of the camera.
@Lynnerizer Cock-a-teel-a-doooo and Yoshet-it’s-French. There’s a backstory for each of their names, of course.
The cockatiel is named for Barney Fife, on Andy Griffith. He would always call Wanita and say, “Wanita? Barn. Cock-a-doodle-doooo!” So the cockatiel’s name has to said with that inflection.
For the parakeet: We used to have another one name Yoshi, for the dinosaur on Mario, since they were both the same green. That one died and we got this one to replace him. There was a lawyer on a show we used to listen to whose last name was Weasel, and every time he gave out his business card, people would try to pronounce it as it was spelled until he would get exasperated and say “Wee-sell! It’s French!”
There’s too much explanation to their names. We should really change them to Bird #1 and Bird #2, or Sam and Sally or something…
@Weboh
Oh no, don’t change their names! I love Barney Fife and those are great names! Brought me back to “The Jefferson’s”, with George always yelling Weeeeeezy! Lol Thanks for the explanation!
@Lynnerizer@Weboh A normal name is better-when we got Walter my wife wanted to call the bird Leonardo as she is an artist. I nixed that. I said let’s call him Walter as he was grey and looked like a pigeon and there was an actor named Walter Pigeon.
Of course at that time we had no idea if Walter was male or female as Grey’s have no external sex characteristics. Vet said it would cost $ 50 to do a DNA test on Walter. Told her I really didn’t need to know what sex he was all that bad. Told her to tell me when the test came down in price. About 2 years later she told me the test was down to $ 45 so I said go ahead and do it.
My friends cat have a feeding time around 5 or 6 and if it goes past that it starts meowing really loud constantly.
It the funniest thing to listen too.
@Star2236 I wish I could capture the sounds my big cat makes when he’s hungry. He’s SO SAD, TODAY IS THE WORST, OH HEY IS THAT A STRAY KIBBLE, SAD. And he has a raspy smoker voice, too. But he’s extremely suspicious and camera shy.
I put Walter on the perch in the great room when I wake up in the morning and he does his business (just like a dog does when you take him out in the morning). He then climbs to the top of the ladder and stays there until I start making breakfast. He then climbs back down and waits until I put his dish filled with some type of melon, eggs and string beans in the holder.
Who owns the other bird then?
@RiotDemon The cockatiel… when he’s in this mood. Occasionally, he’ll let the parakeet bully him.
My cat dusty came running over and into my lap to watch this video when he heard it!
Well, now I know why the caged bird sings.
