This is going to be one rough week
16Leaving in a few hours for a work training and the amenities include:
Shared room with a stranger
No television
No telephone
No wifi
There is a business center that has a top of the line T1 line, don’t here is that.
I’ve loaded up my fire with movies and have a bottle of vodka, hopefully I’ll be able to ride it out until Friday.

No wifi? Wtf? No TV?
You will have decent cell service?
@f00l it’s on the coast, so iffy.
/giphy why me?
Maybe you and the stranger will “connect”…
/giphy bow chicka bow wow
Why would your work be so cruel?
And this is what @ConAndLibrarian 's training week dilemma brings to mind…
@Mehrocco_Mole this is exactly what is happening. I am so thankful my LTE is working.
No television
No telephone
No wifi
@cranky1950 Not a single luxury.
@therealjrn and it’s on the coast. An island is all coast.
it’s not too late to take up pokemon go
No TV, phone, or internet? Where is this training, Greenland?
@cpierce The UP Ja Youbetcha
What sort of third world hotel did they put you guys up in?
@jbartus it’s a retreat center, people pay money to get these “luxuries.”
@ConAndLibrarian oh god…all “retreats” are awful
I’d rather sleep in the park or under an overpass than share a hotel room with a stranger.
The company I work for makes us share rooms whenever we have to travel for work. Luckily I am the only programmer so I travel alone and haven’t had to deal with that yet.
@Skylord123 I’ve always refused to share a room unless they want to pay me overtime for 24 hour days. Same goes for company lunches and such. Free food isn’t compensation enough for forcing me be with work people an extra hour that day.
@medz Yeah the owner of the company said “If you are to good to share a room with someone you shouldn’t be working here”. But at the same time I never see them sharing rooms when they go to events.
We sent some employees to an event a couple months ago and two of the employees had to share a bed, not just a room. Needless to say that was pretty fucked.
@Skylord123 I’d consider a sexual harassment complaint in that event.
@moondrake @Skylord123 Yeah…I’d be talking to HR about that one. Not cool. If the company is too small to have an actual HR department, I’d pay for my own room if I wanted to keep the job. If the company is forcing you to go on the trip and forcing you to share a room, I think you could probably sue them for unlawful termination if they fire you for refusing. That’s just a really inconsiderate thing to do. A previous place I worked would ask if you minded sharing rooms. Some of the gals I worked with were friends and actually liked sharing a room together. That’s fine. Sure, save the company money if they don’t mind it, but to make it a policy or to expect employees to share a room…that’s just a dick move. What if you have embarrassing medical issues that would obvious to someone sharing a room? What if they snore? What if you need to talk on the phone about private issues during the off hours? What if you don’t want your co-worker seeing what kind of underwear you wear? What if you’re sexually assaulted while asleep? Talk about lawsuits…
