@ruouttaurmind YAY! My bowls order, placed February 1st, has shipped! It was delayed a couple of times, and I felt for sure I’d get a notice that it had been cancelled like that spray we ordered…but I GOT THE SHIPPING NOTICE TODAY!
Oh, and hey thanks @Bezos for the overnight shipping. lol. I shit you not, they are overnighting my six bowls from Cali after a month of sitting on my order. Thanks be to God! Tomorrow we SALAD!
@mikibell Nostalgia for the old Shakey’s Pizza Place my father used to take me to when I was a wean. They served salad family style in a big wooden bowl, with littler wooden serving bowls. My dad always used to get blue cheese dressing on it.
Best Buy: Atari Flashback 8 Console for $34.99 and free shipping if you pad your cart with $0.01 or more of additional merchandise (Pro-Tip: check out the clearance and outlet center to find hundreds of items for A couple bucks or less). In-store pickup is not available for this item.
@mick@ruouttaurmind if you’re in the market for this and have a Sam’s membership, check there. They had like three different versions of this (Atari, Capcom, and Sega maybe?) in for Christmas and the other day when I was there they had the Capcom one for $9.
I had it in my hand but then thought about what I was doing. I built a retropi setup that already had all those games and more, so I put it back for someone else.
@RiotDemon In the store near me they’re usually stocked along with the game disks and computer software. But last year when they were clearancing out the Guitar Hero bundles they were stacked up with all the discounted returned goods stuff.
This may be old news to many of you, but I just saw it this morning for the first time. I have no idea how long this has been going on, or how much longer the promo will run…
Chewy.com: Set up your first Autoship order and save 30% (up to $20) in addition to the 5% standard auto-ship savings. Important note here though, Chewy charges shipping for orders less than $50.
FWIW, I also had a Chewy “$15 off $50” coupon and was able to stack the offers for a total discount of $39.30 on my $86 order of dog food with free shipping. These are probably one-shot codes, but you can try this if you’re feeling adventurous: HVXKDT5X
@RiotDemon I’ve never been able to benefit from them before. Between shipping and sales tax, everything is more costly there than just picking up at Walmart or ordering from Amz. But this time I ordered two bags of chow for the free shipping and it’s really paid off. Two $43 bags of food for about $50. Not bad.
@ruouttaurmind I try to avoid the giant that is Amazon and Walmart doesn’t carry my dog’s food. I got tired of buying locally when PetSmart stopped carrying the specific type of my dog’s food. PetCo was cheaper online and they would honor the price, but it was a pain in the ass. I started doing their online ordering and it was fine for the first order, then suddenly they said they couldn’t ship canned food. If I tried to place a regular order, and not auto ship, they would ship the canned food. When I spoke to customer support they said cans got damaged in shipping, but they couldn’t explain why they could ship a regular order with cans.
@RiotDemon@ruouttaurmind We have a local Pet Supplies Plus nearby, and use them. I can find discounted gift cards every now and then too. They’re structured as local franchise owners, so the profits stay more local than PetCo and definitely more than WM or Amazon.
This title is currently in the free Prime Reading library, so Prime subscribers can simply download the book. Non-Prime subscribers must pay 99¢. In either case, you may add the Audible audiobook version by selecting “Add Audible book to your purchase for just $1.99”.
The Audible version is not one of the PD amateur narrator versions. This is 18 hours of excellent professional narration by Luke Daniels and Therese Plummer, two of the best Audible has to offer.
@sammydog01 their site is odd. Once you add 3, it seems like the deal also works for 4, 5, or 6 units. But it stops at 7 and didn’t work for 9. This is a good deal compared to their MSRP and shipping prices, it’s like getting a discount on one and getting two more to give as gifts.
The crock reaches temperatures of 165-175°F according to their customer service reps. I’m sure that could cook ramen but not sure how long it would take to do it. They even suggest oatmeal in their site copy and then say it won’t cook oatmeal in the q&a, which was weird.
Colors have been selling out while I played with the site. From reading their q&a section, they run this sale once every few months so it will come back around.
Audible NON SUBSCRIBERS: Presidents Day Event - Save 46% on a three month Gold subscription ($8 per month, billed monthly). Look for the banner on the Audible.com home page. Open to new AND returning subscribers alike.
An audible Gold subscription gives you one book credit per month, good for any audiobook in their library, plus entitles you to purchase the Audible Daily Deal (one book per day featured at an exceptionally low price, usually around $4 or $5).
@mfladd@RiotDemon@ruouttaurmind I see a giant female sunflower, wearing a full length dress, standing on a ledge with the bluebirds from Snow White flying around her and singing songs from Walt Disney movies.
Not a barn burner, but fair enough value: Focus Camera is offering the factory refurbished Anki Cozmo with charging dock and 3 interactive cubes for $90 and free shipping, no sales tax in most states. Your choice of classic white or limited edition liquid metal finishes.
Probably the most innovative interactive toy since Teddy Ruxpin.

Unfortunately CCC is brain damaged after the rebuild, so limited pricing history is available. Only 11 reviews lead me to suspect it’s a new product. Fakespot doesn’t have much confidence in the few reviews which are there, but Reviewmeta thinks it’s fine. Caveat emptor.
I just received the “compatible” baseplates I ordered from Wednesday’s Amz DotD. Eight 10”x10” plates in 4 colors for $22.46 (now back to $30).
My initial impression? Good value. Less than half the price of LEGO baseplates. The fit and finish is great. I tried about a dozen different LEGO bricks in various shapes and sizes, all fit perfectly. Firm, snug fit. The only thing that isn’t quite perfect is the color match. Green and blue are nearly perfect. Gray and sand are a bit off. They are also a bit thicker than LEGO baseplates, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, since I don’t see myself trying to match the two brand baseplates in one project.
@ruouttaurmind I agree. I think I’d jump on a $10" for sub-100. But if I were buying today I like those deals. I have enough smart plugs to probably not go for them at even $5 additional, but when adding them lowers the price? Sure, bring em on!
Careful, though. Lenovo’s bundles don’t all make a lot of sense. There’s a bundle that appears to be one bulb and one plug and then there is a bundle that states one bulb and one plug and they’re two different prices. The 10"/1 bulb/1 plug bundle is $100 or so more than the 10" smart home bundle that seems to also include one bulb and one plug. The gap is not that big on the 8" bundles.
They seem to mostly sweeten the pot but caveat emptor, don’t pick the wrong bundle.
@Barney@ruouttaurmind soooo… now a moral conundrum … I ordered the vinyl, lotion and hand soap in the same order. Ok, they shipped the hand soap and lotion in one box, and the vinyl in another. So my daughter opened the box and told me I ordered popcorn and lotion and soap … “popcorn”? I don’t remember ordering popcorn – I don’t eat popcorn. Ok, so maybe I did… check order, nope, just three things.
I sent an email off to amazon, I ordered 3 things, received 4. “What should I do?” (can’t be much simpler than that!!)
So, they refund the vinyl, and resend to lotion and soap with one day shipping. I fear I can only make this worse if I try to fix it. AND I still have a case of popcorn that I won’t eat!!! Feels like stealing…
Stick it to the man!
They screwed up and you were honest. The fact that they overdid the response isn’t your fault. Enjoy your popcorn. Don’t worry- you’ll pay for their customer service in the long run.
This is why people get so pissed off here- Fedex lost my package, Meh should not only give me a refund but extra shit to make up for it.
@Barney@ruouttaurmind@sammydog01 that is really my problem – we all pay for screw ups like this, including possibly the innocent vendor whose product was fulfilled and refunded … sigh… I don’t do inventory accounting as a living, but it boggles my mind how “human” intervention affects the balancing of goods. Every time a cashier scans something incorrectly, I cringe. I guess that is why reserves were invented.
.1. You tried. You were honest and still Amz couldn’t get it right.
B. The cost for Amz to ship back the stuff, process, and restock/disposition the goods may likely exceed the value of the items.
III. The items you choose not to use can be donated to your local food banks and homeless shelters and Amz’s errors will still benefit the greater good.
In inventory accounting it’s called shrinkage or spoilage. It’s also how your local grocer accounts for that lug of tomatoes which turned before they could sell, or the $30 bottle of olive oil accidentally knocked off the shelf by a stocker.
@mikibell Echoing the above. You did the right thing. It does cost more to actually fix it especially now that they made it worse. The correct answer should have been something like “Sorry for the mixup, please keep the popcorn. Thank you for letting us know.” My guess is someone ordered popcorn and did not get it because a warehouse person put it in your box.
If it makes you feel better you can try and tell them they screwed up again but you might drown in soap and lotion. I don’t think it is necessary. I don’t know how to force someone to read and comprehend the message.
@ruouttaurmind true… on the return logistics… as for the popcorn, I have to make baskets for the robotics fundraisers, so the movie basket just became fuller!! It is probably more altruistic to donate to the food bank, but there are lots of kids who can’t afford the trip $$ for the robotics competition too. Still helping the community, probably a smaller portion though!
@sammydog01 robotics … . there are some kids who barely have shoes/coats good enough to wear in the snow. It is heart breaking. My kids are blessed to have two parents who make good $$. I feel very overindulged when I go to the build site
VESA mountable, and internal power supply, so that’s a plus. I’m annoyed by the number of larger displays with external power supplies. One HDMI and one DSUB (VGA) connector, no speakers so that’s not ideal. But the internal speakers are usually crap on computer monitors anyway, so not a show stopper.
Sure, I wish it was 4K and bezel-less, but alas, frameless UHD at this price point is still a pipe dream. Still, a pair of these and this mounting bracket and for $330 you’ve got yourself a decent workstation setup (probably the 8ms refresh is a bit too slow for serious gamers but suitable for graphics or business power users).
Rtings.com did a review of this model, and the thing they dinged it for the most was “ergonomics” stating “The ergonomics of this Dell D3218HN are bad. The monitor can only be tilted and even that is constrained to a very narrow range.” This concern goes out the window if you ditch the factory stand and go with a VESA mounting system.
@UncleVinny My very first car that I bought with my very own money!
When the Bondo could no longer hold the unibody together, I upgraded to a 1981 AMC Eagle.
*Edit to add: I got my driver’s license in 1991; these were certainly not ‘cool’ cars for a kid from the suburbs, but I was the only one driving my own (read not mommy’s) car for at least three years.
Still supported in Apple’s most recent iOS releases, here’s a cheap option for those pesky apps which require iOS. Good for web, email, streaming, etc. And of course there’s that legendary Apple iPad high resolution IPS display (2048 × 1536 264 ppi).
Amz: Receive $15 towards your purchase of $60 or more when you pay with at least $0.01 in Chase Ultimate Rewards points using your linked Chase Ultimate Rewards credit card (purchased items must be sold by Amazon).
@RiotDemon It was just a giant bin of closed bags but you could see through them. This one was really heavy. I could see the wreath with a $40 price tag but couldn’t see quite how ugly it was. (It’s ugly.) Yep, $4 for the whole pile. Maybe I’ll go back tomorrow for one with a stuffed animal in it.
It’s a bit more work without Wootstalker as a crutch, but maybe that levels the playing field a bit also. I do know there’s NO WAY you can get one if you’re just watching the retail site. They’re long gone before the retail site even recognizes they were offered.
Wootstalker is far enough behind that by the time I hear a Low Stock warning tone, Woot is pretty much already sold out, or just about to be sold out. So I go to the Woot forum tab and start to refresh, waiting for the next item listing to appear. I can then click on the forum notification for a new sale item, then click on the link therein to the item sale on the retail site.
What I like about this routine is I don’t have to sit an hit F5 all day. I just ignore it until I hear the Wootstalker Low Stock tone, and only then do I need to start refreshing. But be aware: the retail site is several seconds behind the forum item listing, so using this routine, skipping the forum and going directly to the retail site will put you several seconds behind anyone who was watching the forums.
@moonhat@ruouttaurmind I pull up Wootstalker, Tweetdeck, the forums, and the main site at the beginning of the Woot-off and try to figure out what works the best. It’s been a bit variable at times. Once Twitter won.
@sammydog01 I got a stuffed animal that turns into a pillow (Colts) - this was the pick of the litter. Also, a micro-usb car charger (ladybug), a fake lego toy (40 very tiny pieces), a pop socket phone holder (damaged), a precision screwdriver set (8 tiny screwdrivers), a Woot pen and a paper bag. Guess I’m just spoiled by the wonderful folks at Meh!
@opivp99 I saw this post on the Woot forums. Gotta say I like the horsie, but to each his own. I’ve started keeping a box for donations going so my crap, IRKS, and Morningsave mystery boxes can go straight out of the house. A waste of money, you say? Yes indeed. I count it as entertainment.
@sammydog01 Ah I was just giving the woooters a hard time I WAS a little disappointed with the haul compared the other posts, but this ain’t my first rodeo, I know how it works. Like I said over there, it went straight to a thrift shop that supports a good cause. I don’t think it was a waste of money at all! Great fun in the mystery!! Actually I’m waiting for my mystery box to arrive next week
@opivp99 Not tryin to pile on or anything, but my box arrived today and wasn’t very horrible. I always seem to get a random shirt, usually in a child’s size or women’s size. Today I received a hoodie and it’s actually a size I can wear! Also a couple other things I can use, some I can’t, and the ever present ladies or child’s Halloween costume. I have received a Halloween costume in the last five or six BOCs.
Overall, not disappointed. Again. Woot has really been on a roll for me for the last several. Nothing stellar, but none made me feel like I wasted my $10.
@ruouttaurmind The tote is a really nice laptop tote- used to be $70 at Best Buy. Daughter may wear the shirt, the beanie is youth sized but more or less fits me. The blue box contains 2 candles in glass cubes- St Louis Cardinals. They smell like cupcakes. Mmmm, cupcakes.
Kinetic Foam in 3 bright colors
Apple iPad cover (damaged)
Child’s Monster High costume
Pullover hoodie with embroidered LA Rams logo
Coaster set, NIP
Two pairs child’s scissors
Obligatory Woot bag
As I said, not a windfall, but I can use the hoodie, tongs and even though they’re kids scissors, I’ll use them. The foam I’ll gift to my nephew. So overall, I definitely got my value back. Not displeased.
@ruouttaurmind I have that same Air 2 Ipad cover in that color! (it’s a work tablet) It is beat to shit.
But work is sending us new Ipad Pro’s this month - with keyboard folio (since they took away are dinosaur laptops too finally) So yay!
But their transition of trying to implement everything from windows to Ipad accessible has been not so great.
@mfladd@sammydog01 It’s like a taupe color and it’s seriously beat down. The magnetic bar is bent and the cover has deep cuts and scratches on it. It’s a shame to toss it in the bin, but I don’t think even the charity shop will want it.
The world would be a better place with more marble madness. To that end, BATTOP (via Amz Marketplace) is offering their 97 piece Marble Run Building Block Construction Set for $19.49 (after applying discount code R6JCIADP on checkout) and free Prime shipping or free shipping when you pad your order with an additional $5.51.
Lowest price ever according to C3
LEGO Duplo compatible
Marble size is approx. 1 inch
4 stars from 87 reviews
Discount code tested and working at 10:30AM MT 2/27
The only thing which would make this a better deal is if they were compatible with regular size LEGO bricks.
For a fiver, I finally talked myself into giving this thing a go. Usually my phone is tossed on the seat next to me when I’m driving. This would put it up where I can actually see driving directions, easily start/stop/skip back my books, and receive incoming calls with some chance of the caller actually being able to hear me.
@sammydog01 I recon that depends on how old your crappy old Fire is? 1G Kindle Fire had 512MB RAM and a dual-core processor. In that case, yes, this one has twice the processor cores, double the memory, and even higher resolution display.
@ruouttaurmind I need a backup phone for my not-in-use phone in case it breaks down while in my nightstand drawer.
And here’s proof positive that I’m not a bot – I can’t multitask.
Also, now that I have purchased one of these and the other losers (@medz and @OldCatLady) have lost out, I guess I could sell this and make a reasonable enough profit so that I could retire in a very comfortable style. Right?
I guess I could sell this and make a reasonable enough profit so that I could retire in a very comfortable style.
Oh, absolutely! Well, I mean, assuming you’re already independently wealthy, or you don’t plan on living beyond however long about $10-$20 will take you. And, of course, assuming your unused phone doesn’t fail and you wind up having to buy a new unused phone. That one scenario would pretty much destroy your profit margin.
woot 3 pack of men’s sweatshirts for $19.99 … assorted colors. I am not sure the 1x and below sizes make this a great sale, but there is no upcharge for the 3XLs… Prime only exclusive. Fruit of the loom and jerzee brands.
