As someone who has been in banking for 27 years, 10 of those in the credit card industry, I have grown to dislike debit cards and favor credit cards for this reason.
It is my opinion that you should put all purchases on a credit card instead of a debit card for dispute resolution at the minimum. There are other reasons too but that should be reason enough.
If you are so close to your credit limit on your credit card that a $20 authorization is going to hurt your ability to make another purchase, you might have other problems. Your FICO score is partly calculated based upon your balance in relation to your credit limits. If you’re too close, you’re considered over extended and you lose FICO points.
In worst case scenario, you can contact your bank to have an authorization removed if you have proof that the order has been canceled. I used to do that for people when I first started in the industry back in 1990 so they probably still do that today. Also, many banks allow you to go over your credit limit by a certain percentage – depending on your risk assessment. Authorizations that were just holding credit but never charged do not appear as part of your balance so wouldn’t be held against you for credit limit overage fees – as long as the charge is never posted.

@mongoose7000 upon using PastaDrop the first time, the code pastadrop works for $10 off on other sites from the account used. An email is generated about an hour after your first purchase but this detail here is all you need.
I have a coupon code that can be used once and it has to be used by 100 people a week. I would like to know when do the drops change? Monday at Midnight or Sunday at 1pm I have been late to the party two weeks in row.
I was confused and just left the shipping address as my address thinking maybe it would prompt for where I wanted to actually send it. I know, I know… Probably dumb, but usually shipping address is used to verify the credit card transaction.
@RascalMJ there’s a checkbox after your shipping address that says “billing address is the same as shipping address” if you uncheck it, then you can change the shipping address.
You can cancel your order and redo it it hasn’t been that long.

I’m not here just for the coupons; I like pasta and sending stuff to friends too, but… I mean, look, you bribed me to support the casemates kickstarter, so obviously I’m a sucker for a good coupon code. My sister has been making hand sanitizer, hundreds of face masks, and legit professional-level bread and baked goods for her neighbors who still can’t get bread regularly (she lives in a rural area and their grocery stores are still a little dire), and she refuses to accept money for any of this. The least I can do is give her a completely unknown (but hopefully ridiculously large) amount of pasta for her to shovel at her teenagers as a thank you for her work.

It wouldn’t be like Meh to sell half that on PastaDrop for $20, and given the MS packages are two 10-pound packages, I’m leaning toward these being 20-pound deliveries, too.

Trying to stay positive, ordered the penne (on 5/18!) and linguini, neither has shipped. Are they communicating with anyone? All I’ve seen is to be patient due to high order volume. Maybe they need to hit the pause button and play catch up? I want to love this so much but getting frustrated!

@kevinrs@rbreier433 If you scroll up to the top of this sales page, you will see that they did a ninja edit on the estimated delivery date. Yep, they do that sometimes. So in their minds, with the new June 15-19 delivery dates, they feel that they will be right on time or with luck, maybe even early.
@Barney@rbreier433 but my order status us still showing the original date range. But anyway, the last meh order I received took about a week total, from April 29 order to May 6 delivery. I ordered multiple items from the mehrathon May 15, and more since, but nothing’s been delivered, some have still not been scanned outside Texas. The PB website is warning of delays 10 or more days. If a week was normal, it looks like all my orders are headed for that week + 10 days + more. I’m sure most will eventually arrive, but in my experience, the longer in transit, the more damage to packaging, and multiple meh orders have been barely in a half open, half crushed box on arrival already. I don’t know if pasta can survive that.
@kevinrs@rbreier433 If it will make you feel any better, the 20#'s of pasta comes in a pretty sturdy large box, (mine had taken a bit of a beating). Inside were two boxes, containing 10#'s each of pasta. The pasta was pretty well padded in bubble wrap and nothing was broken.

@irenegade Pitney bowes tracking states 22lbs 8oz. So they are getting 22lbs of something lol This is 1 order and as stated, it’s a random amount that everyone is getting, it seems.
@OnionSoup correct, multiple boxes need multiple tracking numbers and pastadrop is only providing us with 1. So unless you have informed delivery from USPS, you won’t know how many packages are actually going to show up.
@jakeline There are reports in the spaghettini thread of 100 lb deliveries. There are also a few people saying they got more than one package but were only sent one tracking number, so it might be possible your sister will get more than 20lbs.
Tracking on mine is 10 lbs 10 oz. So I’ve got a 10 lb bag of $2 a pound pasta on the way…
Not going to repeat it. Some of the 50-100 lb shipments should have been a little smaller, so the smallest could be bigger.
I can get any one of the 4 brands of pasta in the store cheaper, at this point it’s in stock, and the store brand is $0.78 for a pound.
The way the spaghettini posts are showing the condition of the packages are arriving in: penne may arrive as a box of penne chips.
@Cloudscout those coupons are first order only, and I’ve only found a use for 1 so far. So ordering a second time and risking another standard quality 10 lb box of pasta at super gourmet prices doesn’t seem smart.

It told me 20lbs but I got two boxes each 20lbs.
I think the weight on the PB website only tells you the weight of one box. So if it says 20lbs all you can infer from that is that one box in your order is 20lbs. You don’t know if you only got one box, or more.
You have a valid point, but since I have seen nothing besides the exact same box that appears to perfectly fit 20#, if you have anything less than 20#, it is pretty safe to say you are only getting that.
Also, more of a beat-the-dead-horse insult, if they only have one size box, it is no wonder everyone with less than 20# seems to be reporting broken and opened bags. Texas air doesn’t help a fragile 10# weight being beat the hell out of.

Is this product Kosher?
I’ve read the ingredients list and there is nothing to preclude it from certification. (but to be served in our home, it needs a Rabbinical Oversight which a LOT of the makers of Pasta already maintain.
We’ve asked and are hoping to hear back before November Freeze. Until then, Penne is in the box and will not be freed from containment.
@unclespammy I don’t know, but curious: when you go to Italian restaurants are they usually Kosher?
The brand they’re dropping don’t very often sell to home consumers, they usually sell to restaurants. Performance Foodservices is one of the biggest suppliers to Italian restaurants.
You might want to ask them directly if you don’t get an answer from meh. If usually restaurant pasta is kosher you’re probably in luck. If restaurant pasta isn’t normally kosher, this probably won’t be either.

My sister got 20lbs. It was hilarious. $1/lb isn’t a horrendous price for pasta either. The funniest thing is the receipt lists the quantity using the inflated “servings” count on the back of the bag. 160 servings of pasta. I can only imagine people’s reaction to seeing 800 servings listed on the receipt.

My Italian friend just got her 20 lbs. drop of pasta…since it was a surprise, I had hoped for a bit more pounds-wise for a bigger laugh, but $1 a pound, is not too bad. Hope my next order has more so I can donate it to a nearby soup kitchen. They really need it right now.
20 lbs noods just got delivered to my husband, but the box looked like it was attacked by velociraptors and the packing slip was half missing, including my note to him. Kinda ruined the fun.

@Dougaa@notyoutoo Yeah, we’re moving soon so there have been a few things popping up here and there that were worthwhile to get, one was 50% off with the $10 coupon from buying the pasta drop for example, and they give you $50 worth of coupons, $10 for each of their sister sites. It wasn’t hard to use them up since we had things we actually needed, lol.

Is shipping on a single item really up to $8 now? Better off doing the monthly $5 shipping… You can set your self a reminder the day, or two days before to cancel the shipping if you’re worried about a subscription fee. That way you get free shipping on anything on the sister sites too… For a whole month… Well… Not free shipping because you pay $5 for… But no extra shipping.
Chances are with the $5 shipping you’ll buy more because not having to pay shipping costs each time makes the items they sell better values.

Everyone slurping down the penne and we still havent received the spaghettini here. PB held it up in Texas and just left the other day. Holy mother of meatballs. I just checked my shipping and I can’t see each boxes weight but it is 4 boxes of penne. I dropped a total of 8 drops so far. 2 to sis, 2 to me, 1 to each of 2 brothers, 1 to mom, and 1 to the 8 year old niece. If we all get 80lb drops, I’m gonna laugh so hard.
The penne pasta drop box looks like it was drop SEVERAL TIMES it had 80 servings I am not sure it weighed 20 lbs But crock pot cooking it and packaged them for a year of food good buy

Well, I’m feeling officially ripped off. Got my Penne Rigate drop yesterday. A single 10 pound bag. For $20 dollars. So two bucks a pound for some cheap-ass, bulk pasta that’s not very good.
I can get decent Penne all day long at Trader Joe’s for less than a buck a pound, so, yeah… Meh, you got me.
I may be in the minority, but I’m looking at this similar to how I look at a scratch-off lottery ticket… or a BOC. The original goal of this temporary pasta delivery website was to help out both commercial pasta manufacturers / suppliers who had no one to sell to during the pandemic and also to keep Mediocre employees busy with shipments. Not sure anyone is making a ton of money on this (the article I read on it said that it was at best a break-even venture), and is an interesting way to get a lot of bulk pasta to food banks and soup kitchens.
I managed to score 100 pounds of pasta in this. Yay for me, but I only kept 10 pounds of it, and 90 pounds went to the local food bank, who were immensely thankful for the bounty.
Would I have been less happy if I had received 10 pounds instead of 100? Sure, but mostly because it would have been less pasta that I could donate to families in need.
I just think people need to keep this in perspective… if you had an extra $20 laying around to spend on a mystery amount of pasta, consider yourself lucky. Only getting 10 pounds of commercial grade pasta is literally the definition of a first world problem.

@Trinityscrew I think part of the problem is many of the 10 lb packages of pasta (like mine) came smashed or split open, rendering them virtually useless. So yeah, did I expect to get 40, 50, 100 lbs of pasta? No. Did I expect to get something usable and worth the $20+ shipping I spent to have it sent? Absolutely. Of course the coupons for the other sites were what ultimately got me to push the buy button, but all in all, I would consider this to be a poorly executed fun idea.
@drewcroa Contact them. If your pasta was all smashed/broken/useless then send them some pictures. Or post them here. They may refund your money or give you coupons for future purchases.

Right? I don’t get why people are getting so mad at a site that explicitly said they were sending a random amount of pasta. Not to mention that the clear intention of the site was that you send it to a friend and I can’t help but notice that easily 90% of the complaining posts are people who sent it to themselves.
@slowbie , yup you’re right, I ended up sending it to myself after trying to change the shipping address to my wife for 20 minutes. I knew she’d be the one to get it while I was at work and have a “WTF” moment. I had just hoped to get a usable bag of pasta.
40lbs of Penne arrived today, and not via the tracking number I expected so there is at least one other package out there on the way. Going to have to find places to donate it or hand a bunch off to friends/family!

My wife’s Penne finally arrived… And of course it had to arrive the one day my wife isn’t home. (Although counting boxes coming from Mediocre on Informed Delivery and what I’ve actually ordered I believe there is another box of Penne yet to come that was separated from it’s brethren).
My wife was a little annoyed but mildy amused with 40lbs of Spaghettini… Not sure how she will react when she gets home at midnight tonight and finds 80lbs of Penne.

I brought my large googly eyes home from work yesterday to place on the stack of boxes to make a box man… But the boxes are too busy it doesn’t look good.
Another idea is to open all the boxes and the inner boxes (assuming packed same as spaghettini) and use the boxes to make a wall blocking her entrance into the living room.

Got the shipment just today. Six big Boxes, each with two smaller boxes, each with a 10-pound bag of pasta. All told, 120 glorious pounds of penne rigate.

Mom got 10# of baby spaghetti, she gave a package to my uncle, both were happy. My brother got 20# and was pretty excited, he and his family will probably eat it all. We got ours today, 5x 20# boxes! Mailman was pretty confused, but he’s a great mailman, so he got a 10# package of penne! There’s pasta dropping to more friends, and an essential worker neighbor with 4 kids! Got 20 pounds of this stuff, which should last our apartment a few days at least. The boxes also arrived a lot less damaged than some of the ones that got posted, so I’m glad for that.

My mom got 20lbs of penne delivered two days ago but no note in the box so she had no idea who it was from. (Why they left my note out is beyond me?) Then today I’m sitting, messing around on my phone and she text me and said she got another 20lbs delivered today but still no note. I checked and it said I only had 22lbs being delivered so who knows how much pasta is coming or where it’s coming from.
She got another box of 20 pounds today. My note was in both boxes so it was my order. No word from my brother, and the website still shows both as ‘processing’.

So USPS says it was delivered at about noon yesterday to in-laws house. “Left on porch”, we have talked to them and not a word about it. We don’t know what is going on. It is killing us not to ask. They use garage and maybe don’t know a delivery is sitting at door. Or maybe in mailbox for neighborhood thing and just listed weird.
Well after some troubles and a mail carrier that can’t figure out street name or addresses. It was found that it was delivered elsewhere. The local fire department got the delivery and figure out today where to bring it. Fire chief came in his bright truck!
Then we got a frantic call from them asking if they were getting 5 giant boxes of pasta!
After great amount of laughter and confusion it is a great time to be had. They gave a 10lb box to the fire chief to take back (it was all he would take) and a couple neighbors will get some and they say we have to take some. They will find good places for some of the other to go and keep a bag or two for themselves.
For anyone whose shipment seems to be stuck at a Pitney Bowes facility, try entering the tracking number on the USPS site. Pitney Bowes has shown my package as sitting in Greenwood, IN for over a week now. USPS shows that it arrived at a USPS facility in Oxford, MS yesterday afternoon.

I checked my tracking number with USPS tracking yesterday and noticed there were 5 (!) tracking numbers coming simultaneously from Meh, and sure enough, today I found them dumped over the gate - look like the mail guy took the Pasta “Drop” seriously!

I now own a comical amount or penne. Received 20lbs on Wednesday and thought that was quite a bit. Then another 60lbs arrived on Thursday. Wow that’s a lot of pasta. Then another 20lbs arrived on Friday. wtf. I wish I had done this to someone else.
@Rstoker The “random amount” that is mentioned in the FAQ. If you assume that Meh gets a good cut at the $1/lb. price (which is what you usually see in the grocery stores), then for every person getting 100 lbs. (the “crazy load”), 8 people have to get the 10 lb. “loser load”. For every person getting 40 lbs. (the “enhanced load”), 2 people have to get the 10 lb. “loser load”.
I have twice gotten the “loser load” (spaghettini and penne); once gotten the “normal load” (ziti); and once the “enhanced load” (linguini). So technically, up to this point, I’m pretty much a break-even customer for them with my “loser loads” covered by my linguini.
The fun will come with the spaghetti as I did a bunch of family members in addition to the donation. For the local donations, I’ve found it easier just to ship to me, cover up the shipping label, and drop the box on local porches of my, erm, victims.
The post office employee said I am on a postal inspector’s watch list. They don’t believe a single person would order this much pasta and they wanted to know what was really in these boxes…Thanks Pasta Drop!

I’m a little concerned now since 2 other Mediocre purchases were delivered to the same warehouse on 6/6 and then show arrived there on 6/17. Does that mean they arrived on the shipping dock and weren’t checked in to the facility by anyone for 11 days? Has our pasta not even been checked in for 15 days? We’re definitely losers in the Pitney Bowes lottery. Hopefully big winners in the pasta lottery. I’d bet one greenback that the PB staff is just sick of hefting 20lb boxes that plainly say they’re loaded with noodles.

Pitney Bowes totally sucks. My pasta was in Los Angeles (where I live) for almost 2 weeks and now I see it just got sent to a facility 50 miles further away. Oh pasta where or where are you?

My sister lives in the woods (and I mean far into the woods) in northern California. This got dropped of at her neighbor’s, she had to borrow a golf cart to get it home, and she had no idea I sent it. This went better than I could have hoped
Well, today has been our 4th consecutive day of pasta deliveries and we’re up to 160 pounds of penne. Although I feel mildly bad for the mail carrier, I think a 10# gift of penne for her this week will make me feel less so.

@melonscoop So, we made a point to meet our mail carrier when we moved into the neighborhood and are on a first name basis with her. It certainly helps ensure really smooth service and she’s great! We get a lot of mail/packages so keeping her happy is always a priority. She happily took it with a smile and laugh.
I’ve been out of town a lot and saw that my penne was delivered last week. I asked my neighbor if she could please move the box from the porch into my house so as to not broadcast my absence.
Poor Kayla! She moved 160lbs of noodles! At least I know how I can express my gratitude for her help. With pasta, of course.
My whopping 10 pound delivery finally arrived today, including a note to go order more at pastadrop.com. Thanks to the lightning quick processing by your friends at Pitney Bowes, this was delivered long after the last drop sold out, so that’s quite a marketing strategy there. Maybe they deliberately held up the small shipments on purpose?
@martinam That makes sense, because when people get 10 and 20 lbs that doesn’t feed into the fun so much as the multiple box shipments. I would not/will not do this again. Execution was just piss poor.
@martinam@Pitmonkey Let’s assume for a second that 20 lbs. for $20 is the price – including averaging packaging, shipping, web site development costs, customer support, carrying charges, etc. – at which Mediocre makes reasonable money on the ordeal (they’re not a charity).
This means that for every 40 lb. box that goes out the door, 2 people must get 10 lbs. For every 100 lb. shipment that goes out the door, 8 people must get 10 lbs. For every 200 lb. shipment that goes out the door, 18 people must get 10 lbs.
This doesn’t address the probability of getting larger shipments. So let’s just assume that the probability model is built such that for every 5 20 lb. boxes, there’s a 40 lb. shipment, and that for every 5 40 lb. shipments, there’s a 100 lb. shipment, and that for every 5 100 lb. shipments, there’s a 200 lb. shipment.
With that distribution, for each 200 lb. shipment you’d end up with 125 20-lb., 25 40-lb., 5 100-lb., and 1 200-lb. shipment. And 108 people would have to bear the 10 lb. burden so that others get more. These ratios can be adjusted, but in the end, there are a significant number of people who have to get 10 lb. shipments. Mediocre can’t just go to 20 lb. minimum, because then they don’t have anyone to balance the big shipments, and then they just go to straight sales of 20 lbs.
There was no guarantee that you’d get a super awesome value deal, it was $20 for a random amount of pasta. Looking back, I might have suggested that they enforce shipping to a different address than the billing address.
Was I disappointed to get 10 lbs. on my first 2 shipments? I would have preferred more. My tube-noodle shipments were out of whack with my string-noodle shipments, and I like tube-noodles more! But that was the price of playing, and 10 lbs. of pasta for $20 isn’t too far out of whack for a pasta lottery. Imagine if “random” meant they would ship you everything from a single-serving to a pallet-load?
I think this might be an interesting adjacent study of “who would pay more for the IRK lottery?”
I thought this was hilarious at first. Overall execution was poor. Taking a month to be delivered, then postal carrier didn’t leave it on the porch or deck of the victim so it ended up back at the post office. I couldn’t sign up for redelivery due to staffing issues, so I had to tell the victim they had to visit the post office. They got 20 pounds. I saw this pasta at cost co for 10.99 a bag last week. I could have bought it, walked the 60 miles and walked home before the pasta I ordered A MONTH AGO was delivered. May 18 - June 24. Weak Sauce to go along with the pasta. The exuberance is insubstantial.
My 10 lbs should be delivered finally tomorrow. 20 really should have been the minimum, I couldn’t really find pasta that costs $2 a pound.

Still waiting for my penne… since May 27. “Tracking” info shows that it got closer on June 22. I think they tied it to balloons and are just waiting for the wind to blow in my direction to release it for final delivery. They can’t be using any kind of motorized transportation. They seem to be more of a storage company than a shipping company. Pitney Bowes… when you absolutely need something to get somewhere at some point in time, but don’t particularly care when, and don’t expect any updates during the process.
@warpedrotors It seems like Pitney-Bowes has begun to shake loose some of the shipments that had been stuck. I had 3 different shipments stuck in different Pitney Bowes centers, and they all seemed to have shaken loose in the past day or so, with all 3 being transmitted to the USPS yesterday. Once they’re handed to the USPS, then we get to deal with their current state of slowness as well… local package shipped from 20 miles away goes through a St. Louis facility that is adding 5-6 days to the delay.
My pasta finally arrived. 10#, which is $2 per pound. Kind of expensive. And had a coupon for $5 off on my next order, which of course is moot.
On the other hand, I did use the $10 coupons for the other sites, and all of them have been delivered from the clutches of Pitney Bowes. So I’m cool with spendy pasta.
Being a tubular pasta, penne turns out to be bulky, and even 10 lbs is a lot of penne. But it’s still probably not $20 worth of pasta. I can’t even think of what people are doing who received 100 lbs. That’s stack it up in the garage and find somewhere to donate it before it attracts mice quantity.
I just bought 8.8 lbs of organic spaghetti at costco for $10.
@kevinrs Pasta is shelf stable and can last for years if stored in a reasonable environment. Anyone with a pantry and some room has hit the jackpot with a big shipment.
We recently used some 15 year old Sams Club linguini; it cooked up perfectly and tasted great.
@duodec Considering the space just 10 lbs of penne takes up, I’m thinking few have space somewhere protected to store 100 lbs. Stored in just bags long enough, and mice or ants etc will chew into them. I mean 100 lbs could completely fill to overflowing a pantry if you even have one.
@kevinrs Our local food bank can repackage dry goods, that’s where we are making our donation. There’s a bit of concern about the 10 lb. bags, but the local (smaller) food pantries can deal with them especially for big families. My family is a family of 6, (4 sons) so we can burn through 10 lbs pretty quickly, usually 3 meals or so.

As someone who has been in banking for 27 years, 10 of those in the credit card industry, I have grown to dislike debit cards and favor credit cards for this reason.
It is my opinion that you should put all purchases on a credit card instead of a debit card for dispute resolution at the minimum. There are other reasons too but that should be reason enough.
If you are so close to your credit limit on your credit card that a $20 authorization is going to hurt your ability to make another purchase, you might have other problems. Your FICO score is partly calculated based upon your balance in relation to your credit limits. If you’re too close, you’re considered over extended and you lose FICO points.
In worst case scenario, you can contact your bank to have an authorization removed if you have proof that the order has been canceled. I used to do that for people when I first started in the industry back in 1990 so they probably still do that today. Also, many banks allow you to go over your credit limit by a certain percentage – depending on your risk assessment. Authorizations that were just holding credit but never charged do not appear as part of your balance so wouldn’t be held against you for credit limit overage fees – as long as the charge is never posted.

I was confused and just left the shipping address as my address thinking maybe it would prompt for where I wanted to actually send it. I know, I know… Probably dumb, but usually shipping address is used to verify the credit card transaction.

Trying to stay positive, ordered the penne (on 5/18!) and linguini, neither has shipped. Are they communicating with anyone? All I’ve seen is to be patient due to high order volume. Maybe they need to hit the pause button and play catch up? I want to love this so much but getting frustrated!

However, both the penne and the linguini show an estimated delivery date from June15th - June19th, so there’s no need to worry.

@kevinrs @rbreier433 If you scroll up to the top of this sales page, you will see that they did a ninja edit on the estimated delivery date. Yep, they do that sometimes. So in their minds, with the new June 15-19 delivery dates, they feel that they will be right on time or with luck, maybe even early.
@Barney @rbreier433 but my order status us still showing the original date range. But anyway, the last meh order I received took about a week total, from April 29 order to May 6 delivery. I ordered multiple items from the mehrathon May 15, and more since, but nothing’s been delivered, some have still not been scanned outside Texas. The PB website is warning of delays 10 or more days. If a week was normal, it looks like all my orders are headed for that week + 10 days + more. I’m sure most will eventually arrive, but in my experience, the longer in transit, the more damage to packaging, and multiple meh orders have been barely in a half open, half crushed box on arrival already. I don’t know if pasta can survive that.
@kevinrs @rbreier433 If it will make you feel any better, the 20#'s of pasta comes in a pretty sturdy large box, (mine had taken a bit of a beating). Inside were two boxes, containing 10#'s each of pasta. The pasta was pretty well padded in bubble wrap and nothing was broken.

I received word that my penne was inducted into the Newgistics Hall of Fame; err, no, the Pitney Bowes system of doom. 2 days in TX, 6 day tour of Greenwood IN, and then off to me after 4 more days or so of rattling around USPS in STL area.
I also see it’s a 10 lb, 10 oz shipment. 2-for-2 on 10 lbs. Says it will likely arrive on Saturday.

My Spagho said 22lbs but I got 40lbs of pasta. I think if they have multiple boxes they only weigh one.
So it could be what they say, or it could be more.
@OnionSoup correct, multiple boxes need multiple tracking numbers and pastadrop is only providing us with 1. So unless you have informed delivery from USPS, you won’t know how many packages are actually going to show up.

Did anyone get over 20 lbs sent? My sister is getting 20 lbs… which is a lot of pasta, but I was hoping for more of a “shock and awe” level of pasta.
@jakeline There are reports in the spaghettini thread of 100 lb deliveries. There are also a few people saying they got more than one package but were only sent one tracking number, so it might be possible your sister will get more than 20lbs.
Both mine and my friend’s are 22 lbs 8 oz.

Not going to repeat it. Some of the 50-100 lb shipments should have been a little smaller, so the smallest could be bigger.
I can get any one of the 4 brands of pasta in the store cheaper, at this point it’s in stock, and the store brand is $0.78 for a pound.
The way the spaghettini posts are showing the condition of the packages are arriving in: penne may arrive as a box of penne chips.
@kevinrs I considered the additional coupons for the other sites as part of the bargain so it doesn’t bother me much.
@Cloudscout those coupons are first order only, and I’ve only found a use for 1 so far. So ordering a second time and risking another standard quality 10 lb box of pasta at super gourmet prices doesn’t seem smart.
Not that the first order has gotten even close to being delivered. Still shows texas.
Thank goodness this tracking number is showing a more manageable 22lbs. Whew!!

@tinamarie1974 ahhh good… Started sending some out huh. Probably everyone will have shipping orders within three or four days… So… three weeks in shipping plus less than a week before order ships … I should definitely have the Penne by July 4th. What could be more American than Italian food?

Only one tracking number so not a megadrop. I suspect they only did those 100lb drops for the first week to get some buzz. I imagine most of us will be in the 10-40lb range from here on out.

Not a big deal, but it is still tribal lore passed around by mehmbers, not a user error. Might want to keep that link handy for the other drop topics.

@mike808 @RiotDemon one thing to take into account is that the weight on PB website isn’t accurate.
It told me 20lbs but I got two boxes each 20lbs.
I think the weight on the PB website only tells you the weight of one box. So if it says 20lbs all you can infer from that is that one box in your order is 20lbs. You don’t know if you only got one box, or more.

You have a valid point, but since I have seen nothing besides the exact same box that appears to perfectly fit 20#, if you have anything less than 20#, it is pretty safe to say you are only getting that.
Also, more of a beat-the-dead-horse insult, if they only have one size box, it is no wonder everyone with less than 20# seems to be reporting broken and opened bags. Texas air doesn’t help a fragile 10# weight being beat the hell out of.

Just received 20 LBS of Penne Rigate pasta. The postal person appeared to be distressed and he said that he had to make multiple drops today. Carry to the door and return to vehicle.
Anyway, the question at hand is;
Is this product Kosher?
I’ve read the ingredients list and there is nothing to preclude it from certification. (but to be served in our home, it needs a Rabbinical Oversight which a LOT of the makers of Pasta already maintain.
We’ve asked and are hoping to hear back before November Freeze. Until then, Penne is in the box and will not be freed from containment.
@unclespammy I don’t know, but curious: when you go to Italian restaurants are they usually Kosher?
The brand they’re dropping don’t very often sell to home consumers, they usually sell to restaurants. Performance Foodservices is one of the biggest suppliers to Italian restaurants.
You might want to ask them directly if you don’t get an answer from meh. If usually restaurant pasta is kosher you’re probably in luck. If restaurant pasta isn’t normally kosher, this probably won’t be either.
@OnionSoup Restaurant pasta (and other food, for that matter) generally isn’t kosher (except, obviously, in kosher restaurants) because it’s being prepared in a non-kosher environment/kitchen/etc. with non-kosher equipment, even if the raw ingredients are.

My sister got 20lbs. It was hilarious. $1/lb isn’t a horrendous price for pasta either. The funniest thing is the receipt lists the quantity using the inflated “servings” count on the back of the bag. 160 servings of pasta. I can only imagine people’s reaction to seeing 800 servings listed on the receipt.

My friend was flummoxed and slightly annoyed upon receiving 20 pounds of Penne this afternoon.
After explaining it to him, he found it amusing. He gave me one of the 10 pound bags.
My Italian friend just got her 20 lbs. drop of pasta…since it was a surprise, I had hoped for a bit more pounds-wise for a bigger laugh, but $1 a pound, is not too bad. Hope my next order has more so I can donate it to a nearby soup kitchen. They really need it right now.
20 lbs noods just got delivered to my husband, but the box looked like it was attacked by velociraptors and the packing slip was half missing, including my note to him. Kinda ruined the fun.
$20 for 10 lbs of generic pasta is a rip off.

It wasn’t hard to use them up since we had things we actually needed, lol.

Is shipping on a single item really up to $8 now? Better off doing the monthly $5 shipping… You can set your self a reminder the day, or two days before to cancel the shipping if you’re worried about a subscription fee. That way you get free shipping on anything on the sister sites too… For a whole month… Well… Not free shipping because you pay $5 for… But no extra shipping.
Chances are with the $5 shipping you’ll buy more because not having to pay shipping costs each time makes the items they sell better values.

Everyone slurping down the penne and we still havent received the spaghettini here. PB held it up in Texas and just left the other day. My week one is set to arrive on Tuesday the same day my sister receives week two. (Penne) Skipped over week 3 but ordered week 4 (ziti) for my other sister. I have a bad feeling about the shape my box will arrive in next week after hearing how many others have arrived beaten up with the bags torn open. Kicking around in the Texas facility for 2 weeks, I’m sure my noods have seen some things
@tjg5181 it sounds if you just get 10lbs the bags get beat up. Anything 20lbs or above is double boxed and with air bags so is really well protected.
10lb folk are double screwed… Pricey pasta and it’s smashed. Anything above that is golden. Even Pitney Bowes can’t harm it.
Holy mother of meatballs. I just checked my shipping and I can’t see each boxes weight but it is 4 boxes of penne. I dropped a total of 8 drops so far. 2 to sis, 2 to me, 1 to each of 2 brothers, 1 to mom, and 1 to the 8 year old niece. If we all get 80lb drops, I’m gonna laugh so hard.
The penne pasta drop box looks like it was drop SEVERAL TIMES it had 80 servings I am not sure it weighed 20 lbs But crock pot cooking it and packaged them for a year of food good buy

The usual rule of 4 people per pound of pasta isn’t actually the recommended serving size apparently.
Recommended serving size is 8 people per lb of pasta, which is how they’re calculating it.
So, it says 80 servings, but in reality that’s only 40 portions. If you’re a family of 4 that bag will only last you 10 meals on average.

@SLepe BTW, it will only show the tracking/weight for your one box. Could be that you will be receiving more than one box. To find that out, you need to go USPS Informed Delivery to get all of your mediocre.com tracking numbers (if there are more).

Got my penne ! Let’s see, it made the 1700+ mile trip from Grapevine, TX to my Northern California home in about 4 days (shipped on 6/2, received on 6/6). Meanwhile, the penne I dropped on an unsuspecting friend who lives in Lewisville, TX was shipped on 5/30 and has yet to arrive… Grapevine, TX is less than 13 miles from Lewisville, TX…

Well, I’m feeling officially ripped off. Got my Penne Rigate drop yesterday. A single 10 pound bag. For $20 dollars. So two bucks a pound for some cheap-ass, bulk pasta that’s not very good.
I can get decent Penne all day long at Trader Joe’s for less than a buck a pound, so, yeah… Meh, you got me.
But fool me once…
I may be in the minority, but I’m looking at this similar to how I look at a scratch-off lottery ticket… or a BOC. The original goal of this temporary pasta delivery website was to help out both commercial pasta manufacturers / suppliers who had no one to sell to during the pandemic and also to keep Mediocre employees busy with shipments. Not sure anyone is making a ton of money on this (the article I read on it said that it was at best a break-even venture), and is an interesting way to get a lot of bulk pasta to food banks and soup kitchens.
I managed to score 100 pounds of pasta in this. Yay for me, but I only kept 10 pounds of it, and 90 pounds went to the local food bank, who were immensely thankful for the bounty.
Would I have been less happy if I had received 10 pounds instead of 100? Sure, but mostly because it would have been less pasta that I could donate to families in need.
I just think people need to keep this in perspective… if you had an extra $20 laying around to spend on a mystery amount of pasta, consider yourself lucky. Only getting 10 pounds of commercial grade pasta is literally the definition of a first world problem.
The goal of Pastadrop
Well my son received 40 lbs of pasta yesterday. He thinks I’m nuts for doing this.
All in all, fifty cents a lb. for pasta is a good deal. For the people upset by only receiving 10 lbs… what did you expect? You were warned. The amount is random.
II’d have been ok with 10 lbs. I did it for the fun of it. And for the $10 off coupon codes for the other sites. I’ve used 2 of them so far.
Heck, I’m not sure what my son is going to do with 40 lbs. of pasta.
@Trinityscrew I think part of the problem is many of the 10 lb packages of pasta (like mine) came smashed or split open, rendering them virtually useless. So yeah, did I expect to get 40, 50, 100 lbs of pasta? No. Did I expect to get something usable and worth the $20+ shipping I spent to have it sent? Absolutely. Of course the coupons for the other sites were what ultimately got me to push the buy button, but all in all, I would consider this to be a poorly executed fun idea.
@drewcroa Contact them. If your pasta was all smashed/broken/useless then send them some pictures. Or post them here. They may refund your money or give you coupons for future purchases.

Not to mention that the clear intention of the site was that you send it to a friend and I can’t help but notice that easily 90% of the complaining posts are people who sent it to themselves.
@slowbie , yup you’re right, I ended up sending it to myself after trying to change the shipping address to my wife for 20 minutes. I knew she’d be the one to get it while I was at work and have a “WTF” moment. I had just hoped to get a usable bag of pasta.

My wife’s Penne finally arrived… And of course it had to arrive the one day my wife isn’t home. (Although counting boxes coming from Mediocre on Informed Delivery and what I’ve actually ordered I believe there is another box of Penne yet to come that was separated from it’s brethren).
My wife was a little annoyed but mildy amused with 40lbs of Spaghettini… Not sure how she will react when she gets home at midnight tonight and finds 80lbs of Penne.
It’ll be even funnier if another box arrives tomorrow as I suspect it eill.
Any suggestions on how to arrange the pasta for her return?
I brought my large googly eyes home from work yesterday to place on the stack of boxes to make a box man… But the boxes are too busy it doesn’t look good.
Another idea is to open all the boxes and the inner boxes (assuming packed same as spaghettini) and use the boxes to make a wall blocking her entrance into the living room.
Poor mailman. We have a really steep driveway and he had to make two trips up carrying pasta. What do mailmen think of Penne as a tip?

Got 20 pounds of this stuff, which should last our apartment a few days at least. The boxes also arrived a lot less damaged than some of the ones that got posted, so I’m glad for that.

My mom got 20lbs of penne delivered two days ago but no note in the box so she had no idea who it was from. (Why they left my note out is beyond me?) Then today I’m sitting, messing around on my phone and she text me and said she got another 20lbs delivered today but still no note. I checked and it said I only had 22lbs being delivered so who knows how much pasta is coming or where it’s coming from.

So USPS says it was delivered at about noon yesterday to in-laws house. “Left on porch”, we have talked to them and not a word about it. We don’t know what is going on. It is killing us not to ask. They use garage and maybe don’t know a delivery is sitting at door. Or maybe in mailbox for neighborhood thing and just listed weird.

Well after some troubles and a mail carrier that can’t figure out street name or addresses. It was found that it was delivered elsewhere. The local fire department got the delivery and figure out today where to bring it. Fire chief came in his bright truck!
Then we got a frantic call from them asking if they were getting 5 giant boxes of pasta!
After great amount of laughter and confusion it is a great time to be had. They gave a 10lb box to the fire chief to take back (it was all he would take) and a couple neighbors will get some and they say we have to take some. They will find good places for some of the other to go and keep a bag or two for themselves.

For anyone whose shipment seems to be stuck at a Pitney Bowes facility, try entering the tracking number on the USPS site. Pitney Bowes has shown my package as sitting in Greenwood, IN for over a week now. USPS shows that it arrived at a USPS facility in Oxford, MS yesterday afternoon.
Our order landed today! 100 pounds! Winner winner penne dinner … for a year. We let the postman keep one of the boxes, so now we’re at 80.

@Rstoker The “random amount” that is mentioned in the FAQ. If you assume that Meh gets a good cut at the $1/lb. price (which is what you usually see in the grocery stores), then for every person getting 100 lbs. (the “crazy load”), 8 people have to get the 10 lb. “loser load”. For every person getting 40 lbs. (the “enhanced load”), 2 people have to get the 10 lb. “loser load”.
I have twice gotten the “loser load” (spaghettini and penne); once gotten the “normal load” (ziti); and once the “enhanced load” (linguini). So technically, up to this point, I’m pretty much a break-even customer for them with my “loser loads” covered by my linguini.
The fun will come with the spaghetti as I did a bunch of family members in addition to the donation. For the local donations, I’ve found it easier just to ship to me, cover up the shipping label, and drop the box on local porches of my, erm, victims.
The post office employee said I am on a postal inspector’s watch list. They don’t believe a single person would order this much pasta and they wanted to know what was really in these boxes…Thanks Pasta Drop!

I’m a little concerned now since 2 other Mediocre purchases were delivered to the same warehouse on 6/6 and then show arrived there on 6/17. Does that mean they arrived on the shipping dock and weren’t checked in to the facility by anyone for 11 days? Has our pasta not even been checked in for 15 days? We’re definitely losers in the Pitney Bowes lottery. Hopefully big winners in the pasta lottery. I’d bet one greenback that the PB staff is just sick of hefting 20lb boxes that plainly say they’re loaded with noodles.

My pasta was shipped on June 1, but I think it’s hitchhiking from Texas. I did get the codes for the other sites and have tried them, but everything I have ordered is having the same shipping issues.

This is the linguine (3 boxes) and the penne (4 boxes), all of which arrived this week. My co-workers think this is the most hilarious thing ever.
So our friends were incredulous about getting 120lb in 6 boxes! They don’t know what to do.

When it was there it would only show the weight of one box, only way to tell if you had multiple boxes was through USPS Informed Delivery.

@melonscoop So, we made a point to meet our mail carrier when we moved into the neighborhood and are on a first name basis with her. It certainly helps ensure really smooth service and she’s great! We get a lot of mail/packages so keeping her happy is always a priority. She happily took it with a smile and laugh.

After receiving 20 pounds of penne on Saturday, my mother just got another 80 pounds today. She is not pleased with me.
My whopping 10 pound delivery finally arrived today, including a note to go order more at pastadrop.com. Thanks to the lightning quick processing by your friends at Pitney Bowes, this was delivered long after the last drop sold out, so that’s quite a marketing strategy there. Maybe they deliberately held up the small shipments on purpose?
@martinam That makes sense, because when people get 10 and 20 lbs that doesn’t feed into the fun so much as the multiple box shipments. I would not/will not do this again. Execution was just piss poor.
@martinam @Pitmonkey Let’s assume for a second that 20 lbs. for $20 is the price – including averaging packaging, shipping, web site development costs, customer support, carrying charges, etc. – at which Mediocre makes reasonable money on the ordeal (they’re not a charity).
This means that for every 40 lb. box that goes out the door, 2 people must get 10 lbs. For every 100 lb. shipment that goes out the door, 8 people must get 10 lbs. For every 200 lb. shipment that goes out the door, 18 people must get 10 lbs.
This doesn’t address the probability of getting larger shipments. So let’s just assume that the probability model is built such that for every 5 20 lb. boxes, there’s a 40 lb. shipment, and that for every 5 40 lb. shipments, there’s a 100 lb. shipment, and that for every 5 100 lb. shipments, there’s a 200 lb. shipment.
With that distribution, for each 200 lb. shipment you’d end up with 125 20-lb., 25 40-lb., 5 100-lb., and 1 200-lb. shipment. And 108 people would have to bear the 10 lb. burden so that others get more. These ratios can be adjusted, but in the end, there are a significant number of people who have to get 10 lb. shipments. Mediocre can’t just go to 20 lb. minimum, because then they don’t have anyone to balance the big shipments, and then they just go to straight sales of 20 lbs.
There was no guarantee that you’d get a super awesome value deal, it was $20 for a random amount of pasta. Looking back, I might have suggested that they enforce shipping to a different address than the billing address.
Was I disappointed to get 10 lbs. on my first 2 shipments? I would have preferred more. My tube-noodle shipments were out of whack with my string-noodle shipments, and I like tube-noodles more! But that was the price of playing, and 10 lbs. of pasta for $20 isn’t too far out of whack for a pasta lottery. Imagine if “random” meant they would ship you everything from a single-serving to a pallet-load?
I think this might be an interesting adjacent study of “who would pay more for the IRK lottery?”

I thought this was hilarious at first. Overall execution was poor. Taking a month to be delivered, then postal carrier didn’t leave it on the porch or deck of the victim so it ended up back at the post office. I couldn’t sign up for redelivery due to staffing issues, so I had to tell the victim they had to visit the post office. They got 20 pounds. I saw this pasta at cost co for 10.99 a bag last week. I could have bought it, walked the 60 miles and walked home before the pasta I ordered A MONTH AGO was delivered. May 18 - June 24. Weak Sauce to go along with the pasta. The exuberance is insubstantial.
My 10 lbs should be delivered finally tomorrow. 20 really should have been the minimum, I couldn’t really find pasta that costs $2 a pound.

Still waiting for my penne… since May 27. “Tracking” info shows that it got closer on June 22. I think they tied it to balloons and are just waiting for the wind to blow in my direction to release it for final delivery. They can’t be using any kind of motorized transportation. They seem to be more of a storage company than a shipping company. Pitney Bowes… when you absolutely need something to get somewhere at some point in time, but don’t particularly care when, and don’t expect any updates during the process.
@warpedrotors It seems like Pitney-Bowes has begun to shake loose some of the shipments that had been stuck. I had 3 different shipments stuck in different Pitney Bowes centers, and they all seemed to have shaken loose in the past day or so, with all 3 being transmitted to the USPS yesterday. Once they’re handed to the USPS, then we get to deal with their current state of slowness as well… local package shipped from 20 miles away goes through a St. Louis facility that is adding 5-6 days to the delay.
I order penne and this is what I get? What am I supposed to do with this?

Noods finally arrived. My folks were puzzled. 40# is going to last a while.

My pasta finally arrived. 10#, which is $2 per pound. Kind of expensive. And had a coupon for $5 off on my next order, which of course is moot.
On the other hand, I did use the $10 coupons for the other sites, and all of them have been delivered from the clutches of Pitney Bowes. So I’m cool with spendy pasta.
Success! 20# of penne dropped on my victim yesterday. Based on the pictures that’s still far more than anyone should ever have in the pantry at once.

Being a tubular pasta, penne turns out to be bulky, and even 10 lbs is a lot of penne. But it’s still probably not $20 worth of pasta. I can’t even think of what people are doing who received 100 lbs. That’s stack it up in the garage and find somewhere to donate it before it attracts mice quantity.
I just bought 8.8 lbs of organic spaghetti at costco for $10.
@kevinrs Pasta is shelf stable and can last for years if stored in a reasonable environment. Anyone with a pantry and some room has hit the jackpot with a big shipment.
We recently used some 15 year old Sams Club linguini; it cooked up perfectly and tasted great.
@duodec Considering the space just 10 lbs of penne takes up, I’m thinking few have space somewhere protected to store 100 lbs. Stored in just bags long enough, and mice or ants etc will chew into them. I mean 100 lbs could completely fill to overflowing a pantry if you even have one.
@kevinrs Our local food bank can repackage dry goods, that’s where we are making our donation. There’s a bit of concern about the 10 lb. bags, but the local (smaller) food pantries can deal with them especially for big families. My family is a family of 6, (4 sons) so we can burn through 10 lbs pretty quickly, usually 3 meals or so.
