I’d go the Swiss Army Knife route, but go with a Leatherman/plier style multi-tool. Wear and use my Leatherman Charge ALX every day. Doesn’t hurt that it’s got three knives on it
A Mora Companion. You can prep food, cut rope, preform minor surgeries(think splinter removal), split small firewood, and even shave with it. Best of all they are cheap.
Leatherman, just Leatherman, the original and still best multitool. EDC the Micra and Charge for past year; Surge for the previous year, and Wave for 17 years prior. Moved Surge to day pack with bit kit. Fixed blades are best, but no one carries them for very long.
A SURVIVAL KNIFE OF COURSE!!! WHY, JUST THE OTHER DAY I WAS ON THE HUNT IN FULL BODY CAMOUFLAGE MAKEUP, I RAKED THE SURVIVAL KNIFE ACROSS MY CHEST TO DRAW JUST A LITTLE BLOOD AND REMIND MYSELF I WAS ALIVE!!! THEN I CLOSED IN FOR THE KILL!!! MY QUARRY WAS SOME RUTABAGA ROOT, AND THE FARMER WAS NOT AMUSED!!! HE LET LOOSE WITH BOTH BARRELS AND I CAUGHT SOME ROCK SALT IN MY ASS!!! AFTER APPLYING THE SUPER SILVER WOUND DRESSING GEL, I FEASTED ON THE KILL!!!
Depends on the related apocalypsi… if its seriously a lot more than just knives I’ll take a kukri but with a grip properly sized for larger hands (the original one’s I’ve seen and the one I have are definitely for smaller handed folks).
Otherwise I’ll second a Mora Companion. Leatherman tools aren’t just knives so although I love my first generation Wave, I don’t consider it a fair choice here.
I would like a clip to attach it on my hip in case I am not wearing a belt! I also would like the blade closer to 4" so I have a little bit longer of a straight blade!
Kitchen knife, it can do all other knife activities plus I can eat like a king

@smigit2002 I was gonna say Leatherman too. They rock.
I see now that I posted this on the wrong topic.

@keithefuzzit you convinced me to go pick one of these up, $11 at ol’ Amazon for the stainless blade version if you don’t mind magenta.
@djslack Didn’t you get any at the $5 Woot deal a few months ago (maybe March?) Heck, even @Barney got one!
@ruouttaurmind no, I missed out. I have their chisel knife though, and it’s great but just not really general purpose.
@djslack @ruouttaurmind Barney still has hers in the packaging. She’s deathly afraid of knives.
A chainsaw. It’s messy, but it’ll be fun. Besides, I don’t want to live in a post-apocalyptic world.
@simplersimon But if the post-apocalyptic world has zombies, you will definitely have an advantage! (At least as long as you can find gasoline)
@mehcuda67 @simplersimon Suddenly, I’ve got an urge to play Left 4 Dead 2…

@rjluehrs On any given day, you’ll find a Letherman Micra in my pocket.
@rjluehrs @rtjhnstn Squirt E4 here, all day erry day.
@rjluehrs came here to post leatherman.
Sharp enough.
Or maybe something by the 6-in-1 tong/spatula company.
A sonic knife (and the Tardes that goes with it)
@hchavers
But the Doctor flies a Tardis and uses a sonic screwdriver…
@hchavers
Is this what is known as trolling and I just took the bait?
Honest question as my online presence where I communicate with others is basically limited to this forum.
@jst1ofknd Don’t get me confused with The Doctor. I am The Meh.
Yoshihiro Honyaki Mirror Finished Edo Usuba Japanese Vegetable Chefs Knife
It will last atleast a lifetime.
A tanto… Hand made by a Japanese master craftsman.
@inanna Url please?
Benchmade Pagan. Without question!
A good steak knife.
@sligett Just buy better steaks…
This one is kinda nice.
@2many2no Taking the price into account, that knife is the worst thing I’ve purchased here.
It’s pretty, but it’s uncomfortable, it’s not easy to open with one hand, and the blade lock is awkward to release.
@craigthom Yeah, the lock is a bit weird, but damn, it’s the sharpest blade I’ve seen in a while.
[When your Life is on the line.]
A tactical knife like you’re NOT selling here.

XXCase with a 10 inch blade.
One that can spark enough to start a fire.
Just knives disappeared… why would I need a Swiss knife when the world will still be lousy with bad corkscrews and uselessly short nail files?
Leatherman
A simple, straight-blade, non-serrated carbon steel machete.
I’m assuming that replacement blades are still available, in which case it’s one of those craft knives with the snap-off blades for me.

@Cerridwyn
