@jqubed Cobb salad is many of the same pieces, laid out in rows, for the OCD'ers among us who don't like their food mixing. Usually without much lettuce, or sometimes none at all.
Cobb has bleu cheese. Most chef salads do not have bacon (their major downfall, IMHO). Usually ham, turkey, cheese, tomato, cucumber, on bed of lettuce.
My version is a little different from the original: Dressing - make 1-2 days ahead & let sit Juice of 1 lemon 2-3 garlic cloves, crushed/minced 3/4 c. evoo pepper to taste Salad: 1 (12 ounce) package bacon 3 heads Romaine 1/2 c. coarsely grated Swiss 1/2 c. coarsely grated Parmesan 1/2-2/3 c. sliced almonds In small bowl, combine lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. Add oil in a stream, beating with a fork. Allow to stand, covered, for at least 3 hours. (a day or 2 is better) In a skillet, saute bacon. In a salad bowl, combine all other ingredients, toss with the dressing. Salt and pepper to taste. For best results - put salad together 2-3 hours before serving, it gives everything a chance to set up. And, a nice finisher to this salad is a personal preference - Garlic & Wine Seasoning from The Melting Pot just takes this from damn good to DAMN good.

And we've been to places that do a wedge with bleu cheese (not just the dressing) and bacon and tomatoes--and it's actually pretty darned good; it just doesn't have much nutritional value, so it's not even worth the minimal effort it requires.

Also, that would be less nutritious, along with the Cobb (a salad rarely even prepared, but just lined up on a plate, quite lazy itself). And lastly, if it doesn't have bleu cheese crumbled in addition to the dressing, well it's just not worth eating!
@afeaton I could argue that Taco Salad is the laziest, I mean, it's just throwing taco ingredients onto a plate instead of carefully layering inside of taco shells. Also, that would be less nutritious, along with the Cobb (a salad rarely even prepared, but just lined up on a plate, quite lazy itself). @joelmw Same. Just chop a head of lettuce in quarters, throw on plate with dressing, charge $7 for bullshit. @afeaton at least taco salad requires them to chop the ingredients!
The Stern Salad. I take a curly head of lettuce, dress it with some headphones and put it in front of a microphone. Throw money at it and broadcast it over satellite radio and cable TV. Suddenly it claims it's the King of All Salads and wants to start an hour later and take Fridays off.
