The universe doesn’t want me to have another IRK. For the first one last night, I was on a plane with slow wifi. For the members-only one that popped a bit ago, I was using old repurposed diaper pins to pick the lock to my older kid’s bedroom that was locked by my younger kid before school this morning.
@btwonder@yakkoTDI When the price was less than the cost of a decent burger, the entertainment value of both the competition factors and the waiting-to-open-a-present simulation was high enough that I tried regularly, and eventually scored once in a while. But at the new price, somehow, the inevitability of the “regret” part just takes all of the fun out. For five bucks, eh, if it was awful, no big. But ten bucks is still “real money” somehow, so the appeal has just about entirely evaporated. I am absolutely not going to set any timers or park in front of the keyboard at item rollover for them anymore.

@btwonder@ircon96 Something is different. Google has gathered enough info so that it doesn’t give you the picture clicking game. I barely use Google for anything so it assumes I am a bot and not a human.

@brainmist funny you mention Guate in this context. I have had the opportunity to score more than 3 irks and for that matter, bocs, while in Guatemala over the years. (pre covid I was there for a week every december). guatemehla interneht hehs a secreht door into the meh and woot servers.
@Kyeh I’ll join the crowd saying $10 makes them half as interesting, especially given how hard it is to get one. Makes me far less likely to stay up and wait for them.
