The Internet Archive (home of the Wayback Machine) is building a full mirror in Canada
15It seems they fear losing historical assets and site functionality, or having those assets compromised, if the assets are concentrated only in one country.
They are raising $ to accomplish this, if anyone is interested. I give them a small donation by monthly subscription.
The Wayback Machine - their web archive (an extraordinary resource for writers, journalists, historians, students, and the rest of us) is here:
The Wayback Machine is the site that archived Deals.Woot.com a few days before the shutdown.

I donated. I use the Wayback Machine regularly when researching.
@OldCatLady Can you search what they have archived or can you just put in the url? I have only seen a way to put in a specific url.
@Kidsandliz
Their new beta site doesn’t seem to allow a general search. It claims to have implemented in-site search.
I haven’t tried it.

I’m a librarian and use the Wayback Machine very often. There is so much good data out there at broken links…
Hysterics. Snowflakes.

@RedOak
You don’t believe in just-in-case redundancy? Or insurance policies for events that appear to be unlikely?
@f00l the observation had nothing to do with redundancy - it was about the trigger. The redundancy case has been there since the archive was created. It is ironic, even reckless, that an “archive” apparently didn’t realize this on day one.
@RedOak
Agree this should have been planned from “Wayback”. About time they raised $ for this.
I think having a back-up is great. I think the reason for doing it now all of a sudden is pathetic.
@DrunkCat Something that size didn’t just happen in a day- I’m sure it’s been planned and in some stage of progress for months now; current events have just given a considerable boost to the project.
@dashcloud You’re right, the planning is happening now.
