A short film by our good friends at Herizon Productions. These little houses started popping up about a mile from our offices. Here is their amazing story.
@Pavlov I actually know some people who might do this for us/them (I could do it as I do 144 scale things but since I am currently homeless everything I own is crammed in a storage unit and finding my stuff would be tough, plus all my tools were stolen when I paid to have help to move my crap into storage as they left them outside and they walked). We have done some stuff for a fundraiser for a couple of people and I might be able to get folks to help do this. Do the folks who made the movie have a way to get hold of those two families? My private email is yahoo and my user name here.
@jaremelz@Pavlov I was thinking of 144 scale (eg 6' = 1/2 inch) as that is tiny to pack since this family moves a lot. That scale will lose a lot of detail, but the over all reminder is what will matter. 1/48 scale might be better for the family of the little girl. I didn't see photos of the inside of that little house (may have missed it as I have only watched it once so far - I will need to look again to count up how many structures they made). Any way to get still photos? If this turns out to be realistic I will ask on the 144 list. There is a guy on there who makes the most amazing miniature wood turned stuff I have ever seen in my life. He has a compassionate side and I'd ask him if he could perhaps make the little owl one. jaremelz it may be we might need to pay for materials and postage for them to send what they have done to me to put into a base for the forest and path as some of these folks are retired and really broke. If I can find it I have a handful of kits, unopened materials I can give away as prizes to folks and make this a give away for everyone who sent one to increase the number of people who would contribute. If I can get this to materialize and if Pavlov can find out if we can still reach these people (and I'd bet it would take several months to pull this off so still reach them by, say Feb) I will let you know. Also Pavlov, could you find out if they have photos of the outside and in of each of the structures that family made? And the stars they hung. At a minimum I thought I could make them the stars as Christmas tree ornaments either for a real life tree or put them on a mini tree with the trunk made into a little house. Actually that might be even a better idea. Make a sign for the forest and send them mini pine tree with a gnome house in the base, put all the stars they put up when they had to take down the gnome houses hanging from the tree branches (I could ask the man who does the fantastic turning if he could cut them for me, paying him if necessary)... then that would be sort of like how they made the little owl house for that one family. What do people think about that? Are there photos of all the stars? And we could brainstorm one especially for them. Or could add this to the diorama of the forest and miniatures of their work. Just thinking out loud here... Be cool to do this for the kids.
@Kidsandliz Thinking out loud is good. I'm sure getting stills will be possible. And once we know if they can be reached, we can get going. If they can be and if this becomes feasible, I'm sure we can easily come up with funds required. I would also be able to create any tiny items that could be felted (I can dye pretty specific colors to match ) and possibly some other miniature work. I've knitted on actual sewing needles before in order to create mini pieces. Not sure if it would work for the scale you're thinking, just thinking out loud as well!
Or what about this. Two boxes maybe about 3x 4" and several inches deep that are created as if they were one box. In the top compartment a miniature book with photos of their creations and in the back compartment (made so it can stand open on a table by the way) a diorama with a gnome house just for them. A star would be on the lid of this that says "home is where the heart is"...
For the family who made the firefly village: Tree stump. Door with a firefly on it wired with an LED on a blinker (battery run, put that under the base. Pine cone pieces for the roof. Inside a mobile with the stars (including adding one with 'home is where the heart is'), bed, chair, table (all twig furniture - jaremelz could create the bedding) , mini book of photo of their creations (outside and inside), mini book of their mini book, another light inside not on a blinker, window. Outside firefly forest sign, mailbox, note inside from us (e.g. the community, not us personally, but maybe even more anonymous - maybe we want it to be totally anonymous just like their forest was?) , rock with some saying on it (maybe home is where the heart is - or is there something better?), landscaping (so this will be on a base). Do it in 1" scale so the books are big enough to print and function. Oh and what is the street number of the house they didn't want to leave? We can use that number for this gnome house. Which reminds me - we need a photo of that house to put in the book too.
For Little Owl, the two doors in the stump, fire fly forest sign, the owl on the door, the wind chime outside, some twig picture frames sized proportionally so they can add some shrunk down photos of their child and family (@Pavlov maybe someone can get them to give us their favorites and we can do this using archival ink and paper - like maybe 3ish photos and/or create a mini book if they send us a handful), then put inside a mobile of the stars with a special one for them (haven't thought what it should say yet - any ideas?), light inside... I can't find anything online that shows the inside of that one so don't know what else we need in there.
What do people (anyone) think of this? What are ideas others have? Pavlov I hope the heck your friends still know how to get hold of folks. I don't want to start anything if we have no way to reach them to mail this stuff.
@Pavlov Hey - no worries. You already said later this week so I was only tagging you since you were part of the conversation, not because I expected you to respond at the moment. I am just mentally planning - well and running on at the mouth on this thread thinking out loud - since I am thinking about it... not to mention I'd rather think about this than my own disaster. : )
@dashcloud Thanks. There will be a few things that will need to be purchased, like the light packs, unless I can get a mini-shop owner to donate (there are a handful on the miniature/dollhouse making lists I am on) or someone with excess supplies.
@mfladd Thanks. Once we hear back if it will even be possible to get this to the two families then I will see what I can drum up and what we might need to buy to pull this off.
@MEHcus If this turns out to be possible to do (eg someone knows how to get hold of them) I will start another thread about this project where we can plan what we are doing, keep people updated, etc.
@Kidsandliz I've got info for you that I will pass along in an email late tonight or tomorrow - I have been out a couple of days but stopped to check in here to let you know I haven't forgotten to email you - as soon as I get a minute to catch up, I'll well, catch up, and email!
@Pavlov Thanks. I knew it would be the end of the week. I also saw your post elsewhere that you are busy through Th night... No worries. Not like we have a deadline or anything. : )
@mfladd Thanks. We will do that. Right now we are waiting on some answers to questions before we decide what, if anything, to do. Likely with the holiday it won't be until sometime after Thanksgiving that we hear back. I appreciate that you (and others) want to help with this.
@mfladd I loved this thread also. I’ll tell him in person later this afternoon - he’s back today for his birthday and our anniversary and he’ll be around for a couple days (yes, they’re both on the same day - marrying him on his birthday was a sure-fire way to never have him forget his anniversary, yet somehow he managed to do just that one year). Plus, he’ll be posting later tonight I’m sure, there’s an absolutely EPIC birthday fuku(o) here waiting for him.
Great..thank you.
But, seriously - thanks @Pavlov :)
It's just so dusty in here.
Thank you. Feels wrong to thank someone for making me cry like a baby. Feeling can be a bitch.
Gnome Bump.
wow
This was absolutely wonderful.
Magical. Those kids are lucky to have a mom like that.
We need to make a 144 scale model of Firefly Forest and send it to them. And recreate the Little Owl House for that other family too.
I'm in. And I am bringing help.

Anyone have any other ideas?
@ Pavlov, @mfladd, @jaremelz Here is what I am thinking so far.

@Kidsandliz I appreciate your enthusiasm, I hope to have some answers for you shortly and I will email you later this week, please be patient. Thanks!
@Kidsandliz @Pavlov Happy to contribute funds to this project if you need them.

I can also help out financially.

It can be hard sometimes to remember and to see the joy, kindness and beauty that exist around us.
@AnnaB What made me happy was that they created that for others around them to enjoy, even though they were going through some terribly tough times.
That was great! I probably shouldn't have watched while slicing onions ;)
@kadagan It was just the onions. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Damn, @Pavlov, you made my face all wet.
@2many2no you must have been slicing onions too. Stick to the story.
@2many2no @mfladd or watching it in the rain...
click here, its not a jpeg
@Kidsandliz allow me.
@mfladd Thanks.
That little sound you heard was the ice cracking around my cold, hard heart.
@LaVikinga
:)
Brb
@hollboll I watched it again this morning in order to show it to someone. I'm fine, really, I'm fine.
@jaremelz
Really great video @Pavlov, thanks for sharing with us. Keep us in the loop for the project mentioned up above.
@MEHcus If this turns out to be possible to do (eg someone knows how to get hold of them) I will start another thread about this project where we can plan what we are doing, keep people updated, etc.

@Kidsandliz You have mail.
@Pavlov Thanks. You have mail back.
@Kidsandliz @Pavlov if there is anything you need for this contact me at mehgoat@yahoo.com. You kidz rock.
@mfladd Thanks. We will do that. Right now we are waiting on some answers to questions before we decide what, if anything, to do. Likely with the holiday it won't be until sometime after Thanksgiving that we hear back. I appreciate that you (and others) want to help with this.

I thought some of you might enjoy this. : )
@MrsPavlov Thank you!
@MrsPavlov I loved this thread. Give my best to at Mr. Pavlov, please. Also ask him if he has licked any donuts lately? He will know it was me.
@mfladd I loved this thread also. That was really sweet.
Several people were asking about photos. Here is the blog:
