@heartny Or, if for some reason it’s absolutely necessary to go camping, camp in the back yard. The toilet is clean, the bugs are at a minimum, and if you forgot something you don’t have to go more than a few feet to get it.
I used to work for outdoor adventure programs (and on tall ships). There are rewarding things about each kind of camping; things you can’t get doing it in a different way. As a result I needed an answer for a time and place for each.
@katbyter this!
The last time I went camping (and the only time I went as an adult) we spent so long every night checking over each other and our dogs for ticks. It was exhausting. No thanks, I don’t want to do that again.
@pmarin@robson If I am not mistaken, that is a European-spec container transport vehicle with a self-contained habitable unit latched onto the bed. As a quick and dirty way of making something that approaches an all-terrain RV with industrial durability, that’s probably as close as you’re going to get in a hurry.
@werehatrack I am in the timeshare and it is better than the hotel. It has a kitchen which is nice. I often go for a run that takes me by the Royal Lahaina. Honestly anything on Ka’anapali beach is lovely.
I do enjoy minimalistic type camping… the flint and steel type of stuff. My wife and daughter are kind of on the other end of the spectrum. I’ve found a happy middle ground called The Tree House Camp. It’s far from the city, but it’s also as ‘car camping’ as you can get. Huge wooded camp sites with essentially tree cottages. No electric or water, but it is a beautiful site… and pet friendly. It’s a great place to exhale. Bunk beds with camp mattresses, wood burning stoves… you bring the rest. It’s a nice getaway.
@capnjb That’s a nice looking place, especially like the sign on their website, May the forest be with you
My family is the same as yours, my son and I are backpackers and my wife and daughter are RV campers
@TheyCallMeKate was going to suggest New York City subways, you’d be indoors, but then I thought about it and you’d still have bugs and spiders, maybe smell some burning grass. And you’d have rats as well. So, never mind…
Camping in the woods opposite someone’s house with high powered binoculars and ultra zoom lens cameras and listening devices embedded in their living room.
I love camping season! I don’t GO camping. I sit on my front porch and watch the people drive past to the campground, and back from the campground. Sometimes the “back from the campground” comes in the middle of the night when they unexpectedly realize they share the space with snakes, coyotes, black bears, and the occasional prowling panther. That’s always fun to watch.
Camping out in bed with lots of pillows and lots of covers and a remote control and tons of laptops and tablets and phones lying around and just basically rotting
The one without daylight savings delays.
Hampton Inn
@tinamarie1974 My sister thinks she is roughing it there.
@tinamarie1974 Marriott’s Residence Inn with a fireplace.
The best kind of camping is staying home.
@heartny Sleeping on the couch instead of in the bed.

The one Sean did with the margarita machine.
(Has he made it back yet?)

@Kidsandliz I wanted to ask what the use-case for glamping is, but I started thinking of a few nice things for it:
The kind with just people, and no vulturous mosquitos and ticks and such coming to suck our blood.

Around the cabins by the lakeside, with a machete.

@pmarin That looks like a mobile missile launcher doubling as a camper…
Not the sort of “camper” I’d want unless it’s for the zombie apocalypse.

The Hyatt in Maui
@cbatte I prefer the Royal Lahaina, myself.

Camping in the Landmaster, just in case the world ends.
@hchavers It still exists, but I don’t think Gene Whitfield is likely to sell it.
@hchavers Yep the Best RV to have. if it was Truly Outfitted the way it was in the Show.
@hchavers You had me thinking of Fox McCloud and crew’s Landmaster. Heh

@oldmantick It’s pretty much the only way to get my girls off grid. I work with tech 50 hours a week. I like the balance of being off grid
@capnjb Only 50 hours a week? You must have a part-time job.
@capnjb That does look nice! Especially since my idea of camping is a good hotel…
If "Glamping"can be 100% indoors, that’s for me.
I hate bugs, grass and spiders.

@OnionSoup What is their address? I think they need an anonymous warning to pull the shades and close the curtains.
Peninsula, Chicago

In the Most $$$ RV on the market!
@mycya4me maybe a small boat?
/image Jeff Bezos Yacht
@pmarin that sounds look… Are you sure it is NOT too small?
@mycya4me @pmarin That’s what HE said…
NOT glamping. If I want that experience, I’ll stay in a hotel. (For the record, I enjoy traditional camping AND hotel stays.)
my fave kind of camping
