Thankful for......
14So another crazy calendar year is passing. I'm not usually one to reflect too much so I figured I'd just share some overall stuffs in my life I'm thankful for. Feel free to make fun of me, join in or like most, ignore my drivel and move on.
Thankful for
- My family and friends who somehow still choose to let me be part of their lives
- The Mediocre family. Wonderful bunch of hardworking fools that actually think we're doing something good.
- Cake (both the band and consumable, especially the ice cream version)
- @snapster for his vision, drive and snark
- This wonderfully crazy Meh community. You may not see me all that much but I'm with you daily through all the twists, turns and gifs.
- People willing to embarrass themselves for the entertainment of others
- First world problems

My list is so long the internet isn't big enough to contain it, so suffice to say, I am thankful.
@moondrake
Congrats @moondrake for all the lush green grass on your side of the fence. Can't help but think of mooncakes when I see your username.
@denboy Another thing to be thankful for. Sadly, no Asian bakeries here (hardly any Asians), but that always gives me something to look forward to when we travel. They were celebrating the Moon Festival in Chinatown in Sydney the last time we were there, and there was a bakery selling tiny moon cakes out of a window. They came out so hot you couldn't pick them up and we went back so often in one afternoon the little slip of a kid selling them laughed with us every time.
@moondrake Man, you got them in their best form fresh and hot. Did you try red bean filled cakes? It's fantastically foreign to westerners using beans in baked goods.
This is awesome, @denboy. I was gonna opt out with just that, but I'll at least make a half-assed effort at it.
I'm thankful for
- Yeah, the family and friends bit. WTF are these people thinking, encouraging me with their love?
- Especially my wife, who laughs more and looks more brightly at the world and loves more deeply than anyone I've ever met. And she thinks I'm special--and not just in an "ed" way.
- Especially my daughter, who's a conservative Christian, if you can believe it, but not politically conservative and not a dick about the religion part. And she's smart and loving. And she totally puts up with her heretic of a dad.
- Especially my stepson. Who's way too cool to be even tangentially related to me.
- Words. Words. Books.
- Story. Stories. Your story. My story. We all scream for ice cream.
- Ideas.
- Creativity.
- The human spirit.
- Mystery.
- meh. Everything about it. The weird way that we got connected to this place. Seeing @snapster in real life. Ha, seeing @denboy in real life. This fucked up community; I love all of you--some, honestly, way more than others. The fact that meh makes me not completely hate capitalism. That I get to say "fuck" and "shit" and shit like that. The videos. Yeah, the snark.
- The internet.
- Technology, Science.
- Music.
- Did I mention words? I like words.
- Random shit.
Okay then, that's enough for now. Carry on.
@joelmw are you sure that wasn't the robot version of me?
@denboy I'm sure of nothing. But it was a charming nevertheless.
/it was charming nevertheless
@joelmw charming is something I've never been described as, it must have been my robot twin
@denboy Pshaw. I'm pretty sure my spousal unit would concur. But I'm all for the robotic insurgency and twins from uncanny valley.
@joelmw @denboy @lisaviolet What y'all said, plus (barring any accident in the next few hours) I made it out alive and still cranky. Say what you want about 2014, it's all behind us now and we have a whole glistening, fresh New Year to keep being meh. BTW, @joelmw, congrats on your goatification!
@2many2no I'm feeling truly cursed.
I'll boil my list down to the one that I'm most grateful for:
My husband. He works his ass off to support our home, comes home and tries to take care of me. He's never batted an eyelash at the doctor's appointments, medical bills, exhaustion, pain, or anything else associated with my autoimmune disorders. He took it in stride when I went from running this house and volunteering, to holding up the couch for several months. If I want to try something that might help, he offers to try it too, so it's easier on me.
When his dog blew out his CCL (tendons in his knee) in both rear legs and they told us he'd need surgery and 4 months to recover, he didn't even hesitate - just said, "schedule it."
I am going to stop myself, because I could brag on him for days, and I'm sure you all have other things to do. I really am a lucky woman to have found such a great guy to walk through life with. So now matter how much crap hit us in 2014, I'll take it, because it hit US.
@Thumperchick Exceptional spouses are the best.
@Thumperchick an awesome husband like that is also a representation of some of your sweet skills, in particular your mate selection and retention capabilities
Dunno why, but I suspect New year's Eve drinking has started a little early this year.
Toilet paper. I'm really thankful for toilet paper.
@Teripie Here, here for the toilet paper.
@Teripie
ignores this thread and moves on
@hallmike An angel just had its wings ripped out.
@joelmw But he said "feel free...". He didn't say there would be consequences!
@hallmike Sigh. There are always consequences, my friend. Anyone who says otherwise is just an ad man for Las Vegas.
@hallmike
@hallmike no consequences, you're good
I'm thankful for:
* My wife (she's everything cool and nice and right - and the best thing that ever happened to me),
* My kids (they're weird and loving and smart and well-educated),
* My grandkids (they're not quite adults, but close enough that I can tell they're going to be even more fantastic than their parents),
* My grandkids' significant others (show me who your friends are and I'll know who you are!),
* My friends - few, far between, and amazing people.
* The fantastic tolerance all of the above have for putting up with an asshole like me and making me know that they love me as much as I love them.
* My co-workers, who trust me and my judgment (and, when they don't, they forget that I'm boss and give me awesome feedback).
* Finally, I'm thankful for being one of the luckiest people on the face of the earth!
I'm thankful that my mother is still with me after a very harrowing year, healthwise.
"Love you, Mom. Always."
I'm thankful for making it out the other side of a hellish 3 years of breast cancer. And so very thankful for my fabulous friends who held my hand through the ordeal. And meh and the folks who hang here, for making me laugh, sometimes uncontrollably.
@AnnaB congrats on making it through a tough battle. Hope 2015 is the start of a much better cycle
i'm thankful for ello.co and its total conquering of facebook. err... wait.
@carl669 looks like the drinking did start early but nothing wrong with wishful thinking.
