Ten years of blame! (July 2024 goat nominations)
11It seems like it wasn’t all that long ago when a certain CEO decided to repeat the magic of “one day, one deal”, but here we are, just shy of ten years now.
I blame @awk, the current, albeit quiet, goat.
As for how it began, beyond the mehmber who made the Kickstarter donation past its goal, the first goat nominated was for this reason:
“I emailed customer service 18 times today because I didn’t know my own address.”
But that was the past and now we have the future to look towards – so nominate away!

/showme ten years of blame
I would nominate @snapster except that I suspect that he has rendered himself immune to being elected. In the final analysis, of course, literally all of this is his fault. And yet he has escaped the blame so far. Even if someone else gets elected as the July goat, we know who is really at fault.
@werehatrack YES!!
@Cerridwyn @werehatrack Several years back, I used to regularly nominate @snapster for the lack of catshirts. Eventually, catshirts were offered – so I stopped doing that.
/showme a breakfast octopus dressed as a goat
/showme the red white and blame goat

/showme ten year-old goat

I nominate @mycya4me, because they might just be a Minion:

/showme all the bananas with a minion for scale
@mediocrebot Onions are VERY kool! so are Bananas! especially with Natural PB on whole wheat bread! Yum. I have been eating them for Over 60+ years!
@Kyeh I accept to shoulder the awesome duties of a Mehgoatship. I LOVE LOVE buttered grits, PB&J, or PB& 'Nana (the Minions fav food)!
OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot Remember you should Never go anywhere with out your Towel, 42!
@mediocrebot @mycya4me
so long… and thanks for all the fish
@Kyeh If I have NOT said it yet I would Accept!
@Kyeh
/showme goat on a banana boat
@DLPanther Looks fun!
@Kyeh I agree!
@mycya4me Acceptance is irrelevant! You will be assimilated into the Goats! Resistance is futile (if less than the amount that dissipates measurable heat under the applied load)! (This assumes you continue to lead in the voting for another 25 hours and 14 minutes as of when this was posted.)
@mycya4me You still haven’t voted for yourself.
@werehatrack Resistance is futile??? who is Resisting??? I am willing to be assimilated into the Goats! The GOATs are NOT the Borg!
@Kyeh I bring Good Swiss Chocolate to bribe the Judges!
@Kyeh So what kind of chocolate should I send??
So, do we have a July Goat or not? I hurt my back a few days ago and though I haven’t as yet blamed the June Goat, it looks like this injury will easily run over into July and maybe beyond. I need a Goat pronto.
@JackingaSee my post above and vote!
@Jackinga @Kyeh There are two nominations so far.
@Kyeh @werehatrack Done. @mycya4me it is. Anyone who fesses up to a fondness for buttered grits, PB&J, or PB&B should easily be able to shoulder the awesome duties of a Mehgoatship.
PANS! GLANDS! CRAYONS! AWESOME!
@Jackinga @Kyeh @werehatrack technically there are two nominations, but only one will participate. The other, well, he likely has better things to do as the owner of our lovely playground.
I will Admit I LOVE buttered grits, PB&J, or PB& 'Nana (the Minions fav food)!
So if need be I will gladly shoulder the awesome duties of a Mehgoatship!
POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
@mycya4me A 'naner samich sounds good right about now as I’m a mite peckish.
I though I’d check to see how you got on with cornbread and buttermilk? That sets well with me, especially if eaten out of a milk glass with a long handled teaspoon to gather all those delicious crumbly bits at the bottom.
@mycya4me did you vote for yourself?
@tinamarie1974 where do you go to vote? Yes I would! I have said in the Comments that I would accept it!
@mycya4me go up to @Kyeh’s post where she nominated you and like it. Thats it!!! Likes count as votes.
@mycya4me @tinamarie1974 Yep, right up there under the picture of
youthe Minion hugging the bunch of bananas.Yep I love PB & Naner & of course some good CornBread with a lot of butter on it melted! But I don’t care for buttermilk, it taste sour to me!
@mycya4me
Do I detect a hint of “Southern” in your dietary preferences…?
@chienfou Yep, Born & Breed, Son of the South, & I am PROUD of it! So I come by it naturally!
@chienfou @mycya4me ITYM “Born & Bread”
@mycya4me No, wait, that should be “Bjorn & Bred”
@chienfou @mycya4me @werehatrack
My parents were both American but I was born during a stint when they lived in the Southern Hemisphere (New Zealand). My uncle (husband of my mom’s sister) was a proud Texan so, as a joke, mom coached five-year-old me to call Uncle Walter a “Damn Northerner” when I met him (which was technically true compared to me).
There was a brief moment of shock, followed by general amusement.
@macromeh @mycya4me
a yankee is someone from the north visiting the south
a damn yankee is in a moving truck.
@werehatrack
No…, I didn’t.
@chienfou
And then there’s the very racist third line which used to be regarded as gospel in Texas in the '80s (and still might, in parts I try to ignore):
A good yankee is one that moves here, buys two cars, adopts three [named_minority] kids, and moves back north.
@macromeh Here in Houston, we used to unironically refer to people from Dallas as “damn yankees”. (Technically, a yankee was anybody from north of Conroe.) (I was born in Ohio, but I grew up in Miami, so as far as I was concerned, Houston was Northern.) (I will note that when we moved to Miami in the late '50s, the cultural makeup there resembled a suburb of Cincinnati more than any truly Southern city. This did not persist.)
@werehatrack Ok I stand corrected -Bred- I knew it was not Bread (as that is what I put the PB & J/ Nanna on.
I have either lived in Virginia or Florida (that was only a few years. I was a baby & Dad was on the construction crew helping build the Space Center)
@chienfou @macromeh @mycya4me or…
@chienfou @macromeh @mycya4me
Like yourself, many years ago?
@mycya4me Well then I have had many a glass of cornbread and SWEET milk, which is what most folks would call just…wait for it…wait for it…
Milk.
Back in the day, when we were smack out of buttermilk, my favorite, we usually had some sweet milk.
That being said, then there is what has been called by the late, great Louis Grizzard, a fine American, a “Snellville Milkshake.” A delectable Southern delicacy otherwise known as cornbread and buttermilk.
But, really, if one eats sour cream, buttermilk should be well within the acceptable range of cornbread eaters. I have been known to enhance my BM&CB occasionally with a coupled heaping tablespoons of sour cream to make a “Supreme Snellville Milkshake”–don’t bother trying to Google that one, for I just made it up.
The old song by Little Jimmy Dickens goes like this:
CORNBREAD AND BUTTERMILK
I came down from Kentucky, a place called Greasy Creek.
That cornbread and buttermilk was all I had to eat.
I have served my country, work for Uncle Sam,
But cornbread and buttermilk made me what I am.
REFRAIN
Oh, give me that cornbread and buttermilk, a country boy’s delight.
I eat it every morning and I eat it every night.
Some people like fried chicken, others like their ham,
But cornbread and buttermilk made me what I am.
My daddy raised some taters; beans and cabbage too.
He always raised plenty of corn to make his mountain dew.
Daddy had some horses and cattle on the farm,
But cornbread and buttermilk never did no harm.
CHORUS
Keep a eatin’ that cornbread and buttermilk, a country boy’s delight
I eat it ev’ry mornin’, I eat it noon & night
Some people like fried chicken, while others like their ham
But cornbread and buttermilk made me what I am
When you was just a little boy remember how your ma
Just before suppertime, how she laid down the law
You young’ns wash behind your ears, your dirty hands and then
Eat cornbread and buttermilk to grow you into men
CHORUS
Keep a eatin’ that cornbread and buttermilk, a country boy’s delight
I eat it ev’ry mornin’, I eat it noon & night
Some people like fried chicken, while others like their ham
But cornbread and buttermilk made me what I am
Misery in the stomach, dyspepsia or the gout
Cornbread and buttermilk is sure to help you out
So my advice to you all is to eat it all the time
‘cause cornbread and buttermilk will keep you feelin’ fine
REPEAT CHORUS
I went to see my girl one night, she sat me down to dine
On food I’d never heard of, like caviar and wine
I got up from the table as hungry as could be
I slipped off to the kitchen and that’s where she found me
LAST CHORUS
I was eatin’ that cornbread and buttermilk, a country boy’s delight
I eat it ev’ry mornin’, I eat noon & night
Some people like fried chicken, while others like their ham,
But cornbread and buttermilk made me what I am.
Just so I am not pissing the possible July Goat off, I want to be fair and add that there is a song about Buttered Grits, which I love as well.
GRITS: Guys (Gals) Raised In The South.
I confess all of this rant and mindless drivel is making me hongry!
I always wondered How Texas could ever claim to be a part of the South. It is the other side of the Big Rivah (river) sometimes called the Mississippi & closer to the Mid West. Plus they are VERY far from the Capital of the South, although I have heard that the Heart is in Atlanta, Ga.
@mycya4me first off: DONT MESS WITH TEXAS!
Texas was part of the Confederacy during the Civil War, making it part of the South.
As far as the big river goes, you would also have Louisiana excluded as it is also west of the river.
The northern most part of Texas is only as far north as the middle of North Carolina, still south of Virginia. And the southern part of Texas is almost equal to the bottom of Florida, so by area, Texas is 1/2 the South!
Plus we make the best BBQ
@lonocat @mycya4me To be specific, we make every kind of barbecue there is. And we absolutely cannot agree on what is the best except that it isn’t anywhere else.
@lonocat Why NOT, don’t everyone mess with the 2nd largest Kid (Largest in the 48)?? Plus it makes great sport! hehehe.
Louisiana is just Unique, with all it cajun ideals… Makes it a perfect part of the South!
WOW!
