TC Learns to Sew 3: Come Learn New Stuff with Me
12If you’ve been on this journey with me so far, you’ve seen
TC Learns to Sew - where I figure out how to do stuff like… just wind my bobbin correctly.
Then we moved on to TC Learns to Sew 2 - Backstitch Booglaoo - where I learned how to make bags and wallets I’m actually pretty proud of.
But today, we kick off the 3rd iteration of this topic with a fantastic mistake that’s so bad the pattern designer told me she’d never seen anyone make that exact mistake before, or mess it up quite that badly before. I’m that talented.
I also haven’t had a chance to share a fail this big with you all in a while, so I’m weirdly excited to show you my fuck up.
Oh - this fabric isn’t exactly PG… I guess I should warn you about that.
This is NOT what this is supposed to look like.
I managed to sew the wrong lining piece to the exterior and didn’t notice it until I turned the thing and finished it. 
I’ll post the corrected version in the first comment.

Correct wallet:
It also has a million card slots, 2 ID pockets, 2 3 slip pockets, and a zipper pocket.
I would call myself a sewist with a lot of the Knowledge, but not in much practice. I sew a big project every couple of years or so with little ones in between.
But I have NEVER taken on something like this, so you should be proud of yourself for having the courage for taking it on. I think it still came out pretty good, (and neat!) despite the issue. I’ll have to go check out your old threads. I love seeing people learn how to sew!
Maybe it will encourage me to get back into it more. That and I just bought a serger, so I gotta use it!

My serger was a learning curve for me for sure - but was definitely worth learning! made making hoodies a breeze.
It looks like a very complex piece! I’m glad you were able to fix it; it’s really impressive!
@Kyeh Thanks! I want to say it’s not as complicated as it looks, really. It’s deceptive in that way. I just zigged when I should’ve zagged, and that’s how I managed to mess it up.

@Thumperchick I love how you put as much work on the inside as you do on the outside. The Doctor Who wallet you made for kiddo is full of TARDISs (not sure how to pluralize that…heh) when you open it up. She can literally say, ‘It’s bigger on the inside’
And I love what you do with all the zipper pulls on your creations. The Weeping Angel pull on the wallet you made for her is… well… chef’s kiss!

Okay @thumperchick, you’ve inspired me to branch out. I know this isn’t sewing but my machine is still in storage for the next few weeks. I’ve been crocheting a ton lately between books and random time. I usually stick to pretty safe things when I crochet but I’m officially embarking on crocheting a sweater in four colors. I will probably post photos even if it goes tits up!
@sillyheathen I’d love to see pics! In progress, finished, anything you want to share would be cool.
@Thumperchick well the collar already has me regretting my life choices but only because I have to go slow and I’m impatient at times.

You ought to sell your ideas to designers. You have a lot of designing talent, not just sewing talent.
Or go on kickstarter to raise money to hire someone to sew a bunch of your designs to sell on Etsy or something and when you have sales go on Shark Tank with your “Stay Weird” brand (you might want to copywriter that and your tags) to further develop and sell your product line or license your designs to companies that make stuff like this. I am sure @snapster could give you advice with that side of things. I think you’d have customers. What you have posted on this thread are nice. Or maybe you could sell them on meh (well the ones you just made to make and aren’t using or giving as presents to friends and family) like @coolhandjoe did with his Joe-rathon.

@Kidsandliz - I work from patterns and adjust. Most of my stuff is a combination of inspiration from someone else’s brainchild. I can’t take the credit for that.
What I will take credit for is the combination of pattern, fabric, hardware, and craftsmanship.
