Tidy Cutting: Equipped with a sharp steel blade, the lawn mower cordless cuts a crisp 16’’ wide path with precision in a single pass. 6 cutting heights could be selected ranging from 1’‘-3’’ with a single lever for different seasons and preferences
Easy to Use: With a light weight of 33lb, 3 adjustable operation heights, and soft handles, the battery lawn mower makes your stride much easier. With its space-saving design, it can be folded within 5 seconds and stored in an ideal compact space vertically
Full-Grass Flap: 95% of grasses can be collected in the detachable bag (50L) effectively, and the full-bag flap will remind you when it’s time to empty it out. With a mulching plug, the 2-in-1 feature also allows mulching for easy disposal
@troy Is there a source for replacement batteries and parts for this? It seems to have good reviews but I don’t want to find out next summer after the 90-day Meh warranty runs out that that’s something wrong with it; I’m not going to be mowing for a while!
@Kyeh@troy Tacklife imploded after they got booted from Amazon so the answer is no. It is possible this is a rebrand and batteries and replacement parts can still be purchased from elsewhere but that’s for you to research.
@ohhwell@troy Thanks but I’d still like to hear from a Meh staff person. Like if they bought out the line, did they also get replacement batteries? Do they know if there’s a rebrand that would be the same?
@Kyeh Maybe call up a battery re-build place like Batteries Plus or Allied Battery. I have an old (15 yrs) electric lawn mower that I’ve had the battery re-built several times. It’s a different kind of battery than this one has. (I buy my car batteries at the place nearest me.)
You need to tell them what voltage the battery is, they might not work on these smaller batteries. I just don’t know.
@Kyeh One other thought. 30 minutes is a pretty short time for lawn mowing unless your lawn if very small, and as your battery gets older, it gives you less time.
If I were buying another electric mower, I’d get one that comes with two batteries. BTW, I did end up buying another battery for my mower. This way I have one charged and ready or if I’ve been lazy and the grass has gotten too tall and draining for the battery, I have my backup one to help finish mowing.
Oh, damn - SO TEMPTED, I’ve looked at it on Sidedeal all summer … but the fact that Tacklife has shut down probably means no replacement batteries available and no support if it doesn’t work right. I’m going to resist and buy a better-known brand one of these days.
I definitely have regrets on this purchase. Finally got it unboxed and charged up and in under an hour, the wheel mechanism has fallen apart twice. And it’s a hassle to get the whole thing apart to reassemble. Cheeeeeaaaaply made.
@Imandote@Kyeh I haven’t had a problem with mine. Used 3 times so far, really impressed by its power through thick weeds that would have strained my gas mower!
So, I bought this trash and now all I have to show for it is endless rage. First time I used it, the wheels fell off. Here I am a month later trying to mow my lawn again and the battery no longer charges. Fuck Tacklife.
I have a large yard and as soon you start the lawnmower it runs out of power stays on for like 10 minutes then shuts off then you have to charge the battery and come back out then repeat the process and it only cuts low grass not tall grass recommend not buying 5 hours to recharge and 10 minutes of run time.
@mrsrt345 You’re complaining about a product sold 2.5 years ago and you just joined Meh less than an hour ago? I am going to call potential spammer and have @troy keep an eye on you.
@mrsrt345@troy@yakkoTDI
Yeah, that is very suspect. Seems like maybe he’s just trying to post in places where the item is listed to warn people about the battery life, but if he wasn’t keeping his lithium battery at least partially charged and then let it fully discharge it’s not surprising he’s having trouble with it. This is a common problem with things like lawn mowers that you only use seasonally. Generally LiPO batteries hate to be fully discharged.
@chienfou@mrsrt345@troy@yakkoTDI And the other half of it (IMO, at least) is that these may have been units that were built with low-bidder batteries. That happens a lot with non-mainstream brands. That said, it’s possible that an adapter to fit a 40V battery of another brand might be available from one of the 3D printer specialists on Etsy, and that’s where I’d look for a solution before giving up on it entirely. Yes, it means picking up a potentially costly battery as well, and yes, those often fetch a price that’s a significant percentage of the price of an entire mower, but that’s the way the marketing works. (Buying an off-brand battery is usually a low-yield crapshoot, best not to go there.) (OTOH, there are battery rebuilders around who might be able to refit the pack with good cells, too.)
Generally LiPO batteries hate to be fully discharged.
Until more recently with pouch cells such as DeWalt’s Powerstack, Flex’s Stacked Lithium, or some of Milwaukee’s Forge batteries, rarely are they using Lithium Polymer. It’s almost always 18650 or 21700 cells.
And the other half of it (IMO, at least) is that these may have been units that were built with low-bidder batteries.
Most likely this. I have some off-brand tools come with batteries that met their ratings, but they’re the exception, not the rule. For third party batteries, 60-70% of the advertised capacity is sadly the norm.
Tacklife’s batteries doesn’t appear to be a direct clone of another brands, so the more economical approach would be to wire up and screw on a dock for a popular brand’s 40V platform, such as Greenworks or Black and Decker. You’d be running their batteries from that point afterwards.
Kind of like the Einhell polisher I have (modified) that uses Makita style batteries.
@chienfou@mrsrt345@narfcake@troy@werehatrack@yakkoTDI FYI, according to the manufacturer specs, the batteries in the lawnmower are lithium ion, not LiPO (lithium polymer). Same with 18650 and 21700 batteries. I think, but I’m not sure, that the battery packs for most tools are lithium ion. @chienfou mentioned that LiPO batteries don’t like to be discharged to a very low level; it’s the same for Li-ion batteries. One important thing I just read is that you should not mix LiPO and Li-ion batteries, so don’t connect a LiPO battery in parallel with this lawnmower’s Li-ion batteries.

@troy PAGING TROY?!!

@Kyeh @troy Understandable, good luck with that. If Groupon is slinging them as well, meh didn’t buy the line out.
@ohhwell @troy
Hmmm, I guess that’s true.

@barnabee That’s a good idea …

@barnabee Thanks, that is a good consideration.
I keep going back and forth on this.
@Kyeh I’ve done my best at googlin’, and it looks like VonHaus is a re-brand of the Tacklife. Same design… but guess what? Out of stock too
https://www.amazon.com/VonHaus-Spare-Battery-Model-9100046/dp/B07CZHY5RB?ref_=ast_sto_dp
Still searching, but it’s not lookin’ good.
@troy Shoot
- but thank you for looking!
Oh, damn - SO TEMPTED, I’ve looked at it on Sidedeal all summer … but the fact that Tacklife has shut down probably means no replacement batteries available and no support if it doesn’t work right. I’m going to resist and buy a better-known brand one of these days.
@Kyeh I’d pull the trigger if it weren’t a push mower.
@Kyeh If it took my deWalt batteries i’d be all over it, but I’d have to be an idiot to buy into yet another battery system.
@mossygreen As opposed to a riding mower, or ???
@Kyeh @mossygreen I think as opposed to self propelled.
Self propelled is nice but cuts way down on the area you can cover on a battery.
@djslack @mossygreen
Oh, got it, thanks.
No Bluetooth?
@heartny …or speaker dock!
Can my cat ride it?
Well now that I’ve read this thread I’m regretting the purchase… and I thought it was the IRK that would illicit this feeling.
@ATanYam
You might still be able to cancel it…
At this price, it might be worth buying two. That way you get a backup battery AND a backup mower when things go caput. Whad’ya all think?
@Kambo But for that price you could get an established brand … but maybe?
@Kambo a battery and charger for a Ryobi mower costs more than this entire set (and the mowers are usually $250 and up) so not a bad strategy.
@djslack @Kambo I guess so,
if you have the storage space!
I definitely have regrets on this purchase. Finally got it unboxed and charged up and in under an hour, the wheel mechanism has fallen apart twice. And it’s a hassle to get the whole thing apart to reassemble. Cheeeeeaaaaply made.
@Imandote I’m sorry to hear that, but I’ve wondered whether not buying it was a mistake so thanks for letting me know it wasn’t.
@Imandote @Kyeh I haven’t had a problem with mine. Used 3 times so far, really impressed by its power through thick weeds that would have strained my gas mower!
@Imandote @lonocat
Oh! Kind of a toss-up, then.
So, I bought this trash and now all I have to show for it is endless rage. First time I used it, the wheels fell off. Here I am a month later trying to mow my lawn again and the battery no longer charges. Fuck Tacklife.
I just opened the box and mine is missing the battery.
@ATanYam
It’s past the 90 days, but you might still want to ask Support if they have an extra:
https://meh.com/support
Thanks! I reached out. Fingers crossed.
Yeah, no luck. Essentially I was told ‘too late, sorry’. It’s been real, Meh!
