Super Bowl Super Pizza
6So tomorrow is the big game between used to be Tom Brady Jrs new team and Miami helped us beat Tom Brady for an easier path to the Game. Also known as the 49ers VS the Chiefs. Interesting origins for both team names if you are so inclined to look it up. In any case tomorrow is the big day for pizza companies. So which company will you be going with? A Meh national chain or a local artisan pie maker?

I got one of those refrigerated pizzas that most grocery stores nowadays have in their deli cases. Any pizza joint is going to be so slammed tomorrow that there’s no way you’ll get a good pie, even if you order carryout.
If Meh sold pizza one day, I’d buy it.
@lljk would @aetris deliver it?
@aetris @lljk @ybmuG If Meh sold pizza it would be partially eaten then repackaged …
@ybmuG - Sending @amehzinggrace on her way now.
@aetris @amehzinggrace awesome! Should just about get here in time.
FOOLS! TOOLS! JEWELS! AWESOME!
@aetris @ybmuG sure… I’m totally on my way…kepp an eye out and don’t eat anything and spoil your appetite… in fact i suggest you stop eating now…if i haven’t shown up by the time you leave for work on Monday… then something had gone horribly wrong and you might want to grab a bowl of cereal to tide you over till i get there… maybe… eventually…btw what’s in it for me?
@aetris @amehzinggrace tequila and you get to play with yekoP.
@aetris @amehzinggrace @ybmuG But, but I want to play with yekoP!!
@aetris @amehzinggrace @tinamarie1974 carpool with @amehzinggrace. Make it a
/giphy road trip!
@aetris @amehzinggrace @ybmuG oohhh fantastic idea. I will be ready when @amehzinggrace stops by. Tequila is ready, what else should I bring?
/giphy don julio tequila
@aetris @amehzinggrace @tinamarie1974 maybe some baby Yoda cookies for dessert. And bring celery and you’ll be yekoP’s friend for life.
@aetris @amehzinggrace @ybmuG really? Celery? I have NEVER heard of a dog eating celery!
Ok, added to the shopping list. Might as well bring some Zing Zang too so the adults can enjoy celery as well
@aetris @amehzinggrace @tinamarie1974 it’s his favorite snack, though we do have to make sure we de-string it first.
@aetris @amehzinggrace @tinamarie1974
still waiting on the pizza…made yekoP-shaped biscuits in the meantime. You’re missing it…
@aetris @amehzinggrace @ybmuG so cute!!
@aetris @amehzinggrace @tinamarie1974 and delicious!
Just picked these up. Greta and Elon would be proud.
@mike808 Gag.
@mike808 Those look gross. Plant-based sausage? ew.
@duodec @mike808 Where is your god now?
@duodec @mike808 @therealjrn The Beyond Meat stuff is surprisingly good (seriously, try it) but we’ve tried to accomodate the cauliflower crusts (store bought fresh/frozen, hand made) and that stuff sucks.
Worse is that most store-bought offerings of cauliflower crusts are the worst-made pizzas, which would be unacceptable regardless of the base carrier.
@duodec @mike808 @stolicat My vegan lesbian girlfriend bought me a meatless BK Whopper the other day. It was pretty good.
I choose plant-based meat and vegetarian products for environmental reasons. Costco’s cauliflower crust pizza (don’t remember the brand right now) is decent. Yeah, the rest suck. I’ll give a review of these after the game.
BK’s Impossible Burger is the bees knees. Dunkin’s Beyond breakfast muffin kinda sucks. Was not impressed.
I know I’m not going to change the world, but I feel better that I’m not choosing to make it worse on purpose or out of ignorance.
@therealjrn she is a victim of child abuse.
@duodec @mike808 @stolicat @therealjrn yet it is still horrible for you. It’s amazing how a plant based patty is almost identical in the the crap categories vs the meat version. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/burger-king-impossible-whopper-ingredients-calories-where-to-buy-it/
@bleedmichigan
So you want to eat crap food, and still choose to ruin the planet the rest of us live on as a bonus, is that your point? Wow. Pretty self-righteous of you, don’tcha think?
Not saying you should choose plant-based products. Just saying I am, and why when I choose to eat crap food. You seem to be saying nobody should have the option, or are you arguing that all fast food should be banned?
If so, why not go after the beef industry or entire chains instead of just one new product they sell that intentionally shifts the supply chain away from an existing, worse, equivalent alternative (that you are promoting, intentionally or not).
I retro-blame the December scapegoat.
@mike808 @therealjrn I wanted to like the product, but can say with 100% certainty that after trying the meatless breakfast sausage from my local Hardee’s that there is no food-torture you could dream up (Yes, I’m challenging you) that I wouldn’t choose over eating another of those truly awful & disgusting slabs of veggie “goodness”.
@mike808 wow did my comment showing that from a health perspective alone, not environmental impact, really set you off that much? All I was simply pointing out is that neither are great. Both are high in sodium, and are very comparable down the list though there are no trans fat in the Impossible version.
I never mentioned saving the planet or ruining it. Simply that they both are bad for you. I never said don’t eat either version. If you want to eat a whopper a day good for you, I don’t care, heck if you want to eat one for every meal, I DONT CARE. No I don’t think fast food should be gone and I wasn’t going after anyone be it the vegans, the vegetarians, the pescatarians, the omnivorous, the herbivores, the dinosaurs, or the moronsaurs (I made that last one up).
How you came up with the argument that I was supporting the existing worse equivalent from listing a website that shows data on the comparison between the two options then tells you where you could find an impossible burger is lost on me. If anything we should make fast food restaurants and restaurants in general be more transparent with their wording for food. Just because chicken is antibiotic free or free range doesn’t mean it was humanly raised, just because something is plant based doesn’t mean it is better for you. But hey read into my comment as much as you want, it’s fine you do you little buddy.
@mike808 Blah.
When I eat pizza, an animal must have been killed for my meal.
@bleedmichigan
And I never claimed it was. I claimed I believe plant-based meats to be better for the environment. Hence my original attribution to Greta and Elon. And yes, I’ll admit most taste not at all like their replacement. I posit that there are some pretty disgustingly tasting meats out there, so blanket “meat good, plant-based bad” claims are seriously flawed. Of the plant-based meat alternatives out so far, IMHO, Impossible wins. Beyond is not that great, but it doesn’t taste like a bag of carrots and black beans like others (Morningstar, etc.). I’m going to give local St. Louis hometown startup Match Meats a try as well.
And for dairy replacement, Ripple wins for me.
I blame the scapegoat for your confusion.
@mike808
I love the impossible burgers. I haven’t had red meat or pork in probably 20 years and started eating the impossible burgers a lot and can’t get enough of them.
@mike808 again I was not arguing taste, environmental impact, etc. all I was saying is that from a purely data driven health standpoint the burgers are really no different. No confusion on my part. My second point is simple. Most people when they hear the marketing of restaurants the plant option is always presented as more healthy. Also to knock Burger King the impossible whopper is cooked (?) on the same grill as the beef version so for some that is a knock. Otherwise I will revert to my prior ending, you do you. The world is a hot mess already. We need to do more than get rid of cow farts, belittling kids about climate, and thinking nothing needs to change and we will be fine, etc. all the worlds a strange and no one can agree the actors in front of us have no real solutions
@bleedmichigan @mike808
I like that variation …
@bleedmichigan
Being better for the environment is “more healthy” (just not for you as an individual over the rest of us and our descendents). In the same way that corruptly ensuring you are re-elected as POTUS/dictator-for-life, is in the self-serving “best interest” of the country.
@mike808 ah yes it will be better for the environment of our let’s say great great great great great grand children…assuming that the elected asshats in each and every country from each political side allow us as humanity to make it that far and that good sir is circumspect at best.

We make our own.
@stolicat definitely the way to go. I do them on the grill.
@ybmuG try the cornmeal/wheat crusts - they grill up really nice.
@stolicat cool - heading to the store now. Will see what I can find.
@stolicat bupkis. Though I did go to the “substandard” grocery store. I mean it’s probably decent compared nationally, but when you’re in the home of Wegmans, everything else is disappointing…
/image Wegmans
@stolicat @ybmuG THAT is beautiful for a grocery store. Looks expensive
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 surprisingly not, especially for staples. They have a lot of private label stuff that is very good. I often prefer them to national brands. And their selection of all-natural/organic/gluten-free stuff is amazing.
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 when you and @amehzinggrace get here with the pizza, we’ll have to go visit the rooster
/youtube Wegmans East Ave rooster
@amehzinggrace @stolicat @ybmuG omg, now I am jealous. My grocery store does NOT have a fancy rooster!!
I don’t live in the home of Wegmans but one metro to the left. They are no longer a grocery store. It’s an “experience”. Too old and crotchety to need more experience so I avoid the place like the plaque. Live near the highest grossing store in the chain. Huge prepared food section (including a burger bar.) When my kids were in high school they used to go there to hang with friends and dates. Who takes a date to a grocery store? That said, their store brand stuff is really good. And more consistent across product lines than Aldi or Trader Joe’s.
@Frcal The Central Market store in Fort Worth is fairly popular for a date, especially in the summer when they’re doing grilled burgers and live music on the patio
@Frcal - I took my wife out to the Wegman’s Pub one time, it was OK (and no tipping) but she wasn’t particularly impressed, and we never did it again. However I usually make a Wegman’s run every month or so - I like all their house brand stuff except their breads. The one near us used to have a toy train above the processed cheese section, but I think they took it down.
Papa Murphy’s anyone
@bleedmichigan we love Papa Murphy! Chicken Bacon Ranch!
@bleedmichigan hell yes
meatza anyone? use a mix of hot and mild italian sausage as the “crust”. load up the top w/ sauce, cheese, veggies and possibly more meat items.
@carl669 We don’t use the hot sausage but we make that at home occasionally; learned it from Lou Malnati’s pizza around here.
@carl669 sounds amehzing! How does it hold together? Though just put it in front of me with a fork and I’d be fine.
@duodec I learned it when I was in WA, but I do get the malnati’s one when I’m visiting my folks in IL
@ybmuG I usually take a pound of each, mix it together, and spread it out on a cookie sheet. bake at 350 for about 12-15 or until the sausage is cooked. drain off any excess grease, add your toppings and bake until cheese is good to go.
it’s pretty simple and it’s so filling that I have tons of leftovers.
@carl669 @ybmuG I am gonna have to try it sound a-meh-zing
@carl669 @ybmuG oh… WOW. And Little Caesars has the nerve to use the term Meatsa-Meatsa!
(this should come with a side of Atorvastatin at least.)
@carl669 @chienfou @ybmuG how long do you think it’ll take for the Impossible Meatza to come out?
@stolicat
ಠ_ಠ
@carl669 I’ve done it with bulk deli sweet Italian sausage, and with a couple of chubs of store italian sausage. A half sheet pan takes 2.5 pounds and it will shrink from cooking. But the pizza is awesome with the right sauce and toppings (and also low carb which is a current consideration).
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
@duodec what kind of sauce you use? I don’t put too much sauce on mine, only about half a cup for a standard cookie sheet. the contadina has about 6g carb per quarter cup, so only 12 for the entire pizza.
@carl669 @duodec have you tried Rao’s pizza sauce? It is low carb @ 2g per serving
https://www.raos.com/product/pizza-sauce/
@duodec @tinamarie1974 sweet! I’ll have to give it a shot. I’ve tried some other low carb sauces, like BBQ sauce, but it had artificial sweeteners and treated awful. glad to see this one doesn’t use any.
@carl669 @duodec Personally I think the Rao’s sauces are pretty good.
Realize I am Sicilian and grew up NEVER eating sauce from a jar (or spaghetti o’s ) I always make mine homemade, but in a pinch I will use Rao’s if it is an emergency. It is really good (Grandma is turning over in her grave lol) Let me know what you think
@carl669 @chienfou
Little Caesar’s has nerve using the term “pizza”
@carl669 We like a fair amount of sauce on pizza so I went looking for the lowest carbs with good ingredients. We picked Lucini Tuscan Marinara and rustic basil sauces; they had the lowest net carbs and tasted really good also. The downside is that they’re imported from Italy and are nearly $9/jar.
I may try Rao’s when we need sauce again; that seems to have exploded onto the market recently
We used to have a Joe’s Pizza nearby; it closed and was replaced by Papa Rays. Its been pretty darn good, though we’re not getting pizza today. Pepperoni, Bacon, Onions, Garlic, sometimes half green pepper and half black olives to match our individual preferences. Good stuff!
Ate at Rico’s Pizzeria in Sarasota on a recent trip. A-MEH-ZING thin crust pizza. Voted best in city by the Locals in the Herald Tribune Reader’s choice awards.

@chienfou Wow… I’m evidently channeling Groundhog Day…
No pizza tonight. Super nice out so we grilled burgers/brats/pork steaks and salsiccia
@tinamarie1974 yeah, the Chiefs are from the other end of I-70 from you…
@tinamarie1974 Hey, did you also notice, while watching the big game game, that a goalie fight broke out?
@tinamarie1974 Can confirm A+ on the weather today. Got the car washed, and sitting back with “The Itis” and Famous Dave’s Devil Spit BBQ Sauce.
@mike808 battle of Alberta? Love this!
@chienfou yeah and I don’t follow football. I tend to watch for the commercials. I will root for KC since they are the MO team, but meh…
