@AaronLeeJohnson
IDK what is on the warehouse shelves, I can only imagine, but WE just pulled 28 unopened boxes of covid tests out of our storage closet. And, they’ve each got 2-4 individual tests in them! What a waste!
@AaronLeeJohnson@Kyeh@Lynnerizer@werehatrack And the couple freebees I had were mostly used by others as I made it through the entire pandemic without getting covid. I didn’t stock pile them as I was using a mask (that had always been on the CDC list back when they had one) and, of course, far more people were masking back then.
Then I ironically got it last Dec while at MD Anderson Cancer Center while wearing a decent mask (many were not - governor wouldn’t allow MDA to require them) and now have long covid which sucks. But then again about 60% of cancer patients get long covid if they get covid. Initially I told my PCP that the London Bookies wouldn’t accept any bets he was right as I didn’t have that. Then I finally had to ask him if I could sue him for malpractice for being right about something I didn’t want him to be right about (he has a sense of humor fortunately). Seeing someone who deals with long covid next week.
If the “object mode” went up to 500F, these would be really useful when cooking. Most of the medical-focus ones don’t, but the price for the extended-range kind is pretty reasonable if you shop around a bit. (But I haven’t seen them get all the way down to five bucks.)
(And also take me back to my late teens/early 20’s when trashy romance novels were my preferred light reading. I kind of miss them now after seeing these. )
@mediocrebot@thechilipepper0 The typesetting on this (back) cover is so bad it hurts, and then when you actually start reading it and catching all the typos…oof, a publishing company with no designers OR editors. I might need a thermometer to make sure this queasy feeling isn’t something else.
It’s a good Price. You can always test it against a more standard Thermometer. As a Nurse, I always preferred these. Wasn’t in critical care by any means. Can test the room temp too BTW. Just read and follow directions. Safer than many types, esp for Babies…
Awesome! First a pulseox and now this. It’s truly great for me since I am gravely ill and have multiple organ transplants; if I have any kind of fever I must report to the ER immediately. so this is something that is not only useful but potentially life saving for me.
@kevo152@Kidsandliz Yeah, I made this change, forgetting about that part where it doesn’t work in replies. I’ll either have to roll it back or see if I can get help getting it to work in replies.
/showme An ultra-hygienic, high-precision infrared sensor pairs with Rapid Read technology to scan and deliver clinically-tested, reliable results in less than two seconds.
Just a PSA:
Shilling it’s read speed and range is fine, but the CRITICAL part of a thermometer is accuracy. For instance, the sous vide stuff that I’ve done, I want to know within a couple degrees.
All well and good if this can read your temperature fast, but is it off 1 degree? 2 degrees? 5 degrees?
At least these aren’t shaped as much like a pistol as many others. Always found that unsettling and wondered why they designed them like that rather than, say, more of a flat form factor like a remote or sommat. If you’d told me 5 years ago we’d be pointing laser guns at each others’ heads for over a year just to get in many places, I’d’n’t’ve believed you.
These sold even better than the pulse oximeters, which I guess isn’t surprising, given that a thermometer is probably used more often. Still, amazing sales numbers for both.
Been taking blips of things every day just to be funny. Things like a tea kettle, the motor on the refrigerator, etc. The thing has a “range” and isn’t terribly accurate because of the whole “sweet spot” laser sight.
But then I was around 98~100 this Friday… And then I got a sore throat. And some sniffling. And now I’m in bed drinking miso ramen and hummus . Crap, I should have taken this thing more seriously.
@joyjuice Unless you had a discount code for the shipping, it’s only free for folks who have a membership. (And the monthly membership cost is pretty much the same as the shipping for one order.) Contact meh.com/support to see what the explanation is for your order.
The package came, box inside open and partially squished but the thermometer was intact. That said, I took 3 readings of my forehead in a minute and got 3 different readings! Precision? I don’t think so.
This thing worked for 2 minutes, then died. According to my 4 year old grandson (and others with young ears), when you press the button it emits a high pitch tone, but nothing displays on the LED screen. Batteries are fully charged. Can I return this dead one for a new one?

Imagine how much Covid related stuff is still sitting around in warehouses because years worth of product was made on the year lockdown ended.

@AaronLeeJohnson @Lynnerizer
I have a bunch of expired ones too.
@AaronLeeJohnson @Kyeh @Lynnerizer We actually managed to use all of our freebies before they expired, and even bought a few.

@shahnm yup! Same!
@shahnm And it comes with AAA batteries! And you can use it to double-check the operation of the battery fridges!
@werehatrack
Are you hot for me? Let me check.
@phendrick Um, if you need a thermometer to tell then it’s probably No.
/giphy flitting-portly-minotaur
In for 3. Why? I honestly have no idea.
@k4evryng one for each entrance to your club?
A $5 Sunbeam digital thermometer to go with my $5 Sunbeam pulse oximeter, why not? Sales are brisk already, it seems.

Great GIF!
Not saying you’re old, but…
If you were milk I’d smell you first. Too funny
@Lynnerizer It gave me a laugh too hahaha
EDIT: I’ve got a ballcap that says that phrase at bottom right on it LOL. “Hey there train wreck, this ain’t your station.”
Use “Object Mode” for dead people.
@iggy71 This made me laugh more than it should have.
Paging @yakkoTDI, can you confirm?
@werehatrack This is correct.

@blabounty Feh. Written by a guy, I suspect. (Though I’ve known a couple of women who found it trivially easy to pen that kind of male fantasy stuff.)

@blabounty @Kyeh @werehatrack There are others??
@PooltoyWolf Yup. Not on this thread, but yup.
@werehatrack That’s amusing.
@blabounty @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack
Yes, on this thread, farther down (but not as torrid.)
@werehatrack you made me look. Written by two women, believe it or not.
My wife refers to me with many names. I guess “object” works too.

@hchavers Shoebill. Not really a stork, more closely related to pelicans. Goofy-looking IMO.
