"Stranger Danger" viral video
2This video is going viral on my Facebook page. I'm sure he edited out kids who refused.... at least I hope that's what he did... but still. Dang. Kids can't play outside anymore like the used to because of "stranger danger" but we aren't even educating kids about it!

Kinda reminded me of this SNL skit...
And here I thought it was an awesome video of me.
To clarify I choose this name in some online game a while back (I think TF2) for the "Beware of Stranger Danger". So beware of me!! My wife hates it and thinks Sanger Danger means stranger want to do bad things to your kids. I go with beware of strangers as they may be dangerous. In the future I'm going with a new name.
This one is the best...
Agreed, with two small children this scares the hell out of me and will be playing these vids again with my kids. It is so easy for them to be taken advantage of even when we think we have educated them well.
Stranger danger is over hyped. Your kids are a lot safer than you think. 90% of child abductions are done by someone the kid knows, usually a family member.

@Teripie I understand where you are coming from, but the safety of my kids can never be over hyped. We have already had 2 situations where a known sex offender has been seen peeping in the back yards of the children in our development. These were reported by neighbors with the police saying they can not do anything about it. We also have police officers living in the community who said the law limits them on what they can do in these circumstances if a law has not been broken.
@Teripie I've listened to the "free range kids" lady a few times on the radio lately, and she makes a LOT of sense.. But it's still damn scary and hard to let your kids be "free"! It's crazy because my parents rarely knew where I was when I was younger. I walked or rode my bike to and from school, to friends' houses, to the store, and anywhere I wanted to go. As a young teen (13-15) I often hung out in the back room of a local comic book store and played Magic the Gathering with plenty of "creepy" adults and other teens. I don't think I'd let me kid do the same stuff.. It's so weird how the worldview had changed!
@kadagan I was 1 of 5 kids/ We roamed all over the place. And I was also known to get on my horsse and take off for the day. I was 12 years old. It was many years later that my mom told me how terrified she was while I was out riding. And the day the horse came home wihtout really freaked her out. Now, as a mom myself, I don't know how she got through all of our nonsense.
@kadagan wait. Did we play magic together? :). Actually it's pretty cool the amount of supervision the kids that play at my lgs. There are 3-4 smaller kids that play. And 3 or so that are teenagers now and have been playing for 5 or so years.
@sohmageek Did you live in NH in the mid 90's? I played when Unlimited was the current main decks I think, and ice age was the latest expansion packs I remember.. haha.. So according to wikipedia that was around 1995. I moved on from that to Rage, and then stopped playing CCGs when I moved to PA since I didn't know anyone who played.
@kadagan nah. Pa till about 95 then up to VT. So close but in reverse
"The public impression of child abduction is often exaggerated due to the nature of around-the-clock media cycles that requires breaking stories at a constant pace. About 2,000 children are reported missing every day in the United States. However, most of these cases were solved within hours. These cases were generally not serious."

So we can see from the video that he returned the 3rd kid.. Should we assume he kept the first 2?
@kadagan gotta feed something to the puppy.
I'm not sure how accurate I think this video is. The one mom obviously waves to a kid while she is talking to the kid. As a kid I would be more likely to talk to someone I saw talking to my mom (I know, I know the bad guy could do that). I feel like it would have been a better experiment to have someone else talk to the parent. I agree with whoever commented before about how many kids turned him down.
Yeah at the end of the day I'm fairly certain it was a video designed to blow something out of proportion to elicit a serious emotional response in order to create a viral video and make a small fortune for the guy with the youtube channel. He's likely already made $10k-$20k already on that video. Not a bad return.
@Bingo Plus he got to hold hands with some cute kids under the guise it was a "social experiment". Creeper level: Expert
I sure hope so!
@llap Yea, Yea, looks bad out of context, but you know what I mean.
Ah yeah, playing on the fears of parents and over-inflating a rare occurrence for profit... thumbs up.
Really - stranger abduction is super rare.
