@awk at 6600’ (aka “the altitude of the devil”) water boils at 200°F. Presumably Meh’s copywriter lives in Flagstaff, AZ at an altitude of 6,910’ where boiling water only gets to 199°F and was impressed by the amazing capabilities of this unit.
There’s probably a union rule requiring a special license for driving a steam engine.
Actually, it used to be an engine-specific certification; just because you were clear to operate an Alco 4-6-2 of a specific type, that didn’t mean you could step into and drive a Baldwin 4-6-2. Each steam engine type had its own valve layout, and you had to know where each one was, and had to be able to describe exactly what it did, as well as knowing the pressure limits and the rest of the operational details before you were allowed to take the right seat. A fireman could stoke anything, a conductor was a conductor, but an engineer had to know the engine.
My father fired on the B&O in the '20s, and was about to take the engineer exam for one of their common freight locos when he got wind that the Post Office was hiring. The idea of a job with much less hazard, very predictable hours, better working conditions, and every night spent sleeping in his own bed was just not possible for him to ignore.
@actionPacked@k4evryng You could theoretically steam your clothes with this, but it doesn’t seem to have an attachment for it. The Bissell steamshot is a smaller steam cleaner that has a little microfiber pad attachment for clothes along with the grout brushes etc.
@actionPacked steam works great to break up grime and to sanitize.
Your clothes steamer probably wafts steam a bit more gently towards the fabric through a bigger nozzle with lots of holes like a small iron. A steam cleaner with the right nozzle can put all that hot wet pressure in a much smaller space to do things like clean your grout lines or blast funk from crevices. With a bigger attachment it can sanitize your countertops or tile without making too much mess. But yep, it’s the same steam, just applied differently.
I’ve used the harbor freight version to steam wrinkles out. I used an unused floor attachment for dispersal. the lint cloth/microfiber one that comes with other cleans protects the clothes, but steam is gonna steam. same as dryer with a moist towel and a shirt wrinkle trick.
@meelo88 I hadn’t thought about that, but yeah, a no-chemicals way to clean a grill makes a ton of sense. I may have to watch and see if it pops up again, as I made the horrible mistake of using degreaser on mine recently without getting all of the accumulated coating out, and now I’m going to have to do a full down-to-the-porcelain job on it before the meat will taste right again.
@werehatrack yeah I was reading it wasn’t very good for that and it only keeps steam going for about 15 sec…at that point I might as well just superheat the bbq and get a sponge stick
@brainmist@meelo88 Some of the folks who bought one are steamed. Several reports have come in saying that the item that was shipped was very clearly a used unit that had been returned. For the moment, all we know is that the staff is trying to communicate with the supplier to find out WTF?
@brainmist@meelo88@werehatrack mine definitely seemed that way. 2 of the microfiber pads weren’t in bags, and there was already a utility brush that was attached to the jet nozzle, and the brush already had white mineral build-up on it. used it for the first time, and it looks like there was already tons of buildup inside the syste. How do i go about complaining or getting updates on what the staff is doing?
So…. Just received mine. Appears entirely pre-owned. Many accessories unwrapped. No packing material in a clearly and obviously resealed & well-travelled box, and while it arrived here via FedEx as all my Meh shipments do, the box also had a UPS 3 day label from October 2018 to a Glendale, AZ address.
SO, I RECEIVED THIS ITEM THIS AFTERNOON. IT IS PROBABLY THE WORST DAMAGED PACKAGE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. AND I’VE RECEIVED HUNDREDS. I’M GUESSIG IT FELL OF THE TRUCK A COUPLE TIMES. IT LOOKS MORE LIKE IT FELL OUT OF A PLANE. THIS ITEM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A XMAS GIFT, BUT THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GIFT THIS TO ANYONE. I DOUBT IT IS EVEN OPERABLE.
Mine arrived today. The packaging was re-used from 2018. The contents looked okay from a quick inspection but have not had a chance to see if it works. There were no instructions included. I am assuming that everything necessary was present.
@cf1 As with one of the ones above, this is definitely cause for filing a gripe over at meh.com/support, since the sale description explicitly said “Condition: New”
Got mine today, and just like the last 3 posts say, the packaging is horrendous. Ugliest used box I’ve ever seen, lol. It even has a packing slip from Costco with the previous owners name and address. Hopefully everything works. Bravo Meh, bravo!
The item arrived poorly packaged, box opened, item used not new, with dirty parts out of their wrappings,
item damaged with one wheel detached. See pictures
here:
I have never had an issue like this with a Meh purchase, so I’ve never really looked through comments a week or two post sale to see if there are common delivery time issues like this. I sure hope not
Mine arrived the same way! Box in complete shambles… dirty dusty and scratched up head, nothing arranged or packaged in the box… So much for giving THIS as a holiday gift…
@cf1 I got mine today. Was returned and deemed non-saleable in 2018. That assessment was correct. It did generate heat, but fell short of creating steam.
I just received my Steam-fast SF-275 Heavy-Duty Canister Sanitizing Steam Cleaner and the thing was used… WTF… A used micro fiber pad, and the heavy duty scrub brush was used and is now useless.
@yellowdog510 Report this over at meh.com/support right away. The staff is aware that there is a problem, and they’re investigating how this came about; it wasn’t supposed to be like this.
Ditto to all of these posts - mine arrived in shambles in the box - clearly used with dirty microfiber pads, which was gross. Any updates from meh on this??
@staceyallen The staff is investigating, and the more reports they get, the better. Take a minute and file a gripe at meh.com/support if you haven’t already done so.
Received mine the same way as all the others above and filed a report at support and they are refunding my card and told me to just keep the broken product.
Label originally to someone in Houston in 2019. Box was old, and messed up…which would have been fine for my purposes if the insides were new. But, sadly, they were not. It’s missing a bunch of pieces (the microfiber pad, filling cup, 4 of the 5 little brushes, and the one that is present is used and destroyed, ect,), plus it was dusty and just thrown in the box.
One of the side labels said “Salvage for credit”, which pretty much sums up its contents and condition.
Bummer…I really wanted one. Off to email support. Maybe after they investigate, they’ll find some that are new, and re-send.
Support was very helpful.
Had to send in a few photos (which was no problem) and I received an email today that a refund would be issued. Unfortunately, she said they didn’t have a new one to resend. Bummer.
I also feel bad for Meh if they inadvertently got stuck with a bunch of these that they thought were new, but aren’t.
Anyway…thank you for your quick and satisfactory resolution Meh. I greatly appreciate it.
My steamfast SF-275 just showed up at the front door and the box appears to have been to hell and back, looks like everything is there but it’s hard to tell as every thing looks like it was just thrown in the box randomly. This is supposed to be a Christmas present and I’m not sure I am comfortable with giving it as a gift…
@rustyspoke66 I just sent a ticket to support. You should too. Were the items wrapped up, or were they just thrown in the box?
Mine was completely broken, but if the warehouse happens to find brand new ones (that they know for sure are brand new), I would be happy to get one in place of a refund, but now I’m kind of regretting saying that because I don’t want to go through the hassle again. With my luck the second one would not work too.
There were 301 sold. Other than making a separate post, I don’t know how to get the attention of the other buyers, lol! They need to see this so they can answer.
@cf1@Kyeh Anyone who received a unit that was acceptable will have no reason to check this thread, so the lack of an affirmative response is not dispositive that they were all bad.
Does meh normally not inspect the merchandise prior to shipping? The box I received was open, and had only a piece of tape holding the flaps barely together.
It still had a shipping label from Costco in 2018 addressed to somebody else.
@akrasiabear I can’t answer the question, but if you file a ticket over at meh.com/support, they’re issuing refunds in such cases. (I’ve wondered about that issue myself, though.)
I know that they are still investigating all of the mess around this.
I have written them twice now but mine arrived the same way, poorly packaged, pieces with hard water stains, and a label on it saying it was returned January 2nd 2019 due to low steam pressure.
@elainemitchell2 Hey - I see that we’ve responded and resolved your issue and that you’ve replied to us. Let me know if there’s anything else we can help you with.
wait, that’s not water, or at least there’s something else besides water. Cloudy with globby white stuff. Oh dear god there is white paint in the reservoir.
DOES NOT FUNCTION – no steam comes out and yes I followed instructions which I had to look up because they weren’t included.
Anyway obviously this was a returned item – perhaps returned by some confused painters who thought it was a giant airbrush – which wasn’t checked out at all before reselling. It bums me out, I was so excited to steam a bunch of stuff.
@bulletsweetp If you haven’t already done so, head over to meh.com/support and let them know. They’re still investigating exactly how this mess happened, but refunds have been coming fairly swiftly from what I’ve seen.
@bulletsweetp mine was apparently a product that was returned in 2019. other posts on this forum says 2018 for theirs… if yours still had a significant amount of water in it, that globby white stuff is probably a living bio-hazard of mold and other stuff… mine functioned enough that it pushed steam out, but hopefully i didn’t aerosolize whatever was left in the tank in mine and breathed it in. feel a bit sick just thinking about it.
Mine was a Costco return from 2019. The reservoir was caked with debris. Missing most of the components and those that were thrown in the box were used. I did find the previous owners return receipt. Maybe I’ll send it back to her just to cause confusion.
The “Condition: New” Steamfast SF-275 Heavy-Duty Canister Sanitizing Steam Cleaner is clearly used and is missing parts. The Cleaning Mop and Extension Wands are not in the box.
I have not tried to see if it actually works.
How can this Used / Defective Item be Refunded or Replaced with an actual “Condition: New” product?
@rcgrams As of last I heard, the staff was still investigating how this came about, and I haven’t seen an update yet. It’s fair to say that this was emphatically not supposed to happen.
This was one of the most expensive and worst items I ever bought on meh.com. It was clearly a returned and poorly working item. A mystery screw, missing cloth sheets, missing funnel for filling up the water etc… I sent all my info to Meh customer service but haven’t heard back yet on next steps. Is this from Cleveland?
@yakkoTDI Good one!
Why not 212?
@awk There’s probably a union rule requiring a special license for driving a steam engine.
@awk right?
I want to make a good cup of tea
Fun fact, boiling point of water is 200°F at 0.788 standard atmosphere.
@awk You’ve really got some kinda altitude.
@awk So, don’t get hot under the collar if you are in a situation that sucks?
@awk at 6600’ (aka “the altitude of the devil”) water boils at 200°F. Presumably Meh’s copywriter lives in Flagstaff, AZ at an altitude of 6,910’ where boiling water only gets to 199°F and was impressed by the amazing capabilities of this unit.
@awk @phendrick

So… like do these things just pump out steam, and that’s supposed to clean things? I have a steamer thing for clothes… is it the same thing?
@actionPacked Just asked the same question, lol!
@actionPacked @k4evryng You could theoretically steam your clothes with this, but it doesn’t seem to have an attachment for it. The Bissell steamshot is a smaller steam cleaner that has a little microfiber pad attachment for clothes along with the grout brushes etc.

@actionPacked @djslack Serious stem cleaners are good for removing the sludge from vehicle engines, and if you’ve got a lift, undercarriages.
I don’t suppose this would work for steaming wrinkles out of clothes in addition to cleaning, right?
I wouldn’t think it would matter, but since they didn’t mention it, maybe that’s a whole different kind of steaming?
I’ve used the harbor freight version to steam wrinkles out. I used an unused floor attachment for dispersal. the lint cloth/microfiber one that comes with other cleans protects the clothes, but steam is gonna steam. same as dryer with a moist towel and a shirt wrinkle trick.
Wanted this for my BBQ , but I may be expecting too much from it
@meelo88 I hadn’t thought about that, but yeah, a no-chemicals way to clean a grill makes a ton of sense. @MICKEY13 Next step: Head over to meh.com/support and report what happened.
@MICKEY13 if you’re going to go all caps you don’t need to mess around with punctuation marks. Sends mixed messages.
@frechster WHERE IN THIS MESSAGE DO YOU SEE PUNCTUATION MARKS ? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT “PUNCTUATION MARKS” ARE ???
Mine arrived today. The packaging was re-used from 2018. The contents looked okay from a quick inspection but have not had a chance to see if it works. There were no instructions included. I am assuming that everything necessary was present.

@farrokhmirbaha at least mine didn’t have dirty microfibers. Gross.
As @werehatrack has been saying, submit a complaint at meh.com/support
I have never had an issue like this with a Meh purchase, so I’ve never really looked through comments a week or two post sale to see if there are common delivery time issues like this. I sure hope not

Uh oh. Mine is due to arrive this week. Crossing my fingers mine will be ok.
I’m very surprised to see this happening…these came from Meh and weren’t drop shipped, right?
@k4evryng Yep, these were shipped from our warehouse
@k4evryng @troy So what happened? The supplier just lied?
@k4evryng @Kyeh Currently investigating
I don’t suppose anyone actually plugged their’s in to see if it would work?
@cf1 I got mine today. Was returned and deemed non-saleable in 2018. That assessment was correct. It did generate heat, but fell short of creating steam.
@frechster Thanks for the update. I tried mine last night and it did not get hot at all.

@cf1 @Kyeh Anyone who received a unit that was acceptable will have no reason to check this thread, so the lack of an affirmative response is not dispositive that they were all bad.
@Kyeh doubt anyone did, seems this company sold all its returns and defective items to Meh.

@andrewhall240 that would be so funny.
A (steam) blast from the past, so to speak.
@andrewhall240 head over to meh.com/support and report the problem if you haven’t done that already.
Wife is very unhappy with this.
The “Condition: New” Steamfast SF-275 Heavy-Duty Canister Sanitizing Steam Cleaner is clearly used and is missing parts. The Cleaning Mop and Extension Wands are not in the box.
