@shahnm LIEESSSS!!! Staycations usually involve some sort of work such as cleaning garages, laundry and yard work! vacation at least involves some sort of alcoholic beverage and minimal movement for a set amount of time before reality calls u back…
We’re about to do both - we’re gonna sell the house and bought a fifth-wheel RV and will hit the road for a few years. So, we’ll be vacationing…in our home.
We have not been on a family vacation in over 12 years. We work our butts off, save what we can, but we never seen to go because other life stuff always seems to pop up and ruin it, so we stay home, do things around the house and try to do a couple of day trips. I wouldn’t know how to act if we went somewhere more than 50 miles from our place…
I am okay with either, but it drives me crazy when the wife and I go on vacation, and she is fine sleeping until 2 PM every day an essentially do nothing during the day.
If you just want to relax and do nothing, that’s fine. But we can save the money and do that at home.
We like to have a staycation in another location. We’ll go to the beach, but literally do nothing but sit around or go to the beach. It’s nice to not a have plan and to not be busy, busy, busy…run, run, run. That’s not a vacation to me.
We last went on a weekend vacation about five or six years ago over 4th of July to a friend’s house in Denver. The last traveling vacation was in 2010 when we went to Taiwan. We’re off this week but we’re staying home. Our nephew is coming to stay with us so he and my husband can play video games all night and sleep till noon.
San Pedro Belize 4-5 times a year. Climbing in different locals2 times year. Jeep stuff on weekends. I don’t stay at home on vacation day. There are too many fun places I haven’t been.
99% of the time, staycation. like literally staying at home, not “vacationing” in my own city or some shit like that.
buuuuuut i do look forward to the one week a year we spend in a cute hotel on the beach (still less than an hour from home though i also checked out a place that would be more like two hours away), and i would love someday to get to go to a toy con, like dcon or five points fest. the ones in the uk & thailand look awesome too but that might be too stressful for me. i’m a homebody and don’t really travel that well.
@squeegy63 I’ll be right behind you, soon. Just have to sort/pack/purge/store, remodel the bathroom, tear out the carpet and redo the hardwood floors, and paint. Oh, and put the house on the market. I feel like leaving by the end of September might not be feasible but it’s my goal.
I’m not even working. We’re going away on a Monday & Tuesday next week thanks to credit cards & unemployment insurance. (and we were only recently reissued credit cards because we’re no longer losers.) So voting between the two I chose this one so I could make a damned comment and tell the world wtf is going on because yeah that’s what everybody came here to read. My sad angry comments about this absurd voting widget thing but I’m not doing that much and it’s actually kinda nice outside so I’ll stop writing this endless comment and just tap the button over there. Happy Summer!!
I moved to the Pacific Northwest a few years ago, and there’s so much great stuff to see here. Add to that the fact I’m not a big fan of travel overall, and I find myself doing long weekend trips to the coast, central OR, or up to Vancouver, BC.
A lot of my friends give me grief because I have a life situation where I could pretty easily do international travel (for starters, I get six weeks of vacation a year), but I just don’t really have a desire to do it. So I do local road trips or simply stay home and do fun stuff in the city.
The only time I see that changing is if I have an SO who really wants to travel and our joint incomes/work situations make it that much more attractive.
They both have their respective merits…
@shahnm
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
blame the scapegoat
@cinoclav ate my homework.

Only 20 minutes late. Did you get that staycation planned?
I’ve done both…
It’s like a choice between boring or expensive.
OTOH, any day off work is a good day.
@2many2no yeah, my wife has expensive honey-do list for me. It better just to keep on going to the office to drink free coffee.
Any paid time away from work is welcome.
Give me the world. I’ve already seen my city.
As much as I’d love to travel, it’s usually expensive. I haven’t left the state in six years.
@RiotDemon When do you think your P.O. will let you?
@therealjrn I’m on good behavior, so we’ll see. Hopefully soon.

@LinnE ah, the best of both worlds. The expensive travel cost plus the honey-do list all rolled into one.
Naycation

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
I’ve always liked both but since I’m home almost always now, I’ll take a vacation.
Both, depending on time of year, budget, and whether we can agree on a place to go or not. Usually not.
I’m retired…live in a house on wheels. So I am on vacation wherever I staycation. In eastern WA heading to Portland then back east to MT.

Umm, local vacation?
