@awk ahh yes, reminds me of the “spring constant” from physics class. Unfortunately Spring lately is not constant, but rather, a few days of Spring, a bit of Summer, then back to Winter, and again to Spring, repeat.
Bugs and spiders. It was so nice to go outside and not be swarmed. It’ll be no time at all and the cicadas will be screaming and the cats will be chasing them.
Spring: Less cold rain but lots of it
Summer: A few hot days
Fall: Lots of rain again and starting to get chilly
Winter: constant cold and nearly constant rain
Repeat
@tweezak I remember when Summer was “a few hot days” – that was one reason I moved to the NorthWest – real seasons but only a brief bit of excessive heat in Summer.
Lately it’s gone to “a few hot months” instead. AC which used to be a rarely-needed comfort feature is now essential life-maintaining necessity. Nearly 100 people died in the “heat dome” event of a few years ago, when temperatures reached 116.
Where can I move to where Summer is still just “a few hot days?”
@pmarin depends on your definition of “hot” but I’d say Michigan. I only get out my portable A/C maybe a week or two when it gets over 85° in the house because I can’t cool it off at night. But I know others here who run the A/C as soon as it goes over 70°.
Everyone is afraid of our snow, but with the way things are going who knows? I only shoveled maybe three times this year. And we didn’t have snow cream even once!
@katbyter@pmarin
Yes but Michigan has humidity unlike a lot of other areas. I love here (well spring summer and fall) but my cousins wife that is born in anchorage, Al won’t visit durning the winter bc it’s to cold. She says it’s our humidity here that make are winters bone chilling cold. And summer heat with humidity can get hot and sticky. Just visit in July on a hot weekend to make sure you like it. But yes summer is really only 3 months long and stays in the 80’s.
Michigan has a lot to offer, there’s lakes everywhere, the Great Lakes, fishing, hunting, water sports, snow sports, you can get to the upper peninsula (from Detroit) in about 4 hours. I’ve lived here my whole life and there’s still so much I want to see and do in Michigan.
@pmarin Dunno. I’ve lived my whole life in Oregon. Last Summer was hotter than usual but I don’t know if it’s a trend yet. There are many other reasons to NOT move to Oregon unless you want to do every drug under the sun without penalty. That’s specifically why I’m finally leaving.
Maybe someplace like Montana or Wyoming would be more to your liking.
Mosquito season started in March here. The season we have to watch out for is Hurricane. Meanwhile, Spring is in full-on pollen-slinging mode. There’s no predicting what the summer wildfire season will be like, given all of the rain we’ve had; if it gets dry enough, that could get really tense.
@guyfromhawthorn I was going to guess Michigan. You made me check the forecast. 82° today but no snow this weekend. Whew! But lows in the 30’s, so who knows?

@yakkoTDI trebuchet is one of my favorite fonts.

@kjady We’ve had one day of hottish weather here so far, and the flying insects are already out. Just a preview of the misery ahead.
Surprise an employee with an unexpected last-minute weekend project.
@shahnm That’s an all year thing around here.
Time to clean … well, pretend that I am cleaning.
Bicycle riding again!
@andyw That’s an all year thing around here.
Shorts & flipflops…
@shahnm Thanks! In the next few days I’ll be going to photograph a collection of cherry trees in Newark, NJ, which is larger than the D.C. collection.

@katbyter Blame that goat!
Although actual goats would be very handy for keeping the yard - mowed? Chewed?
@Kyeh I was speaking as a goat mower
@heartny
@heartny ewww he’s full!
@heartny @Kyeh @katbyter I think you meant “she”… That’s one of the few species where the males are LESS annoying than the females!
@ircon96 I was thinking that as I said it, then questioned myself and was too lazy to Google it. Should’ve just said “it”. I misgendered an insect!

Definitely the sweating one. It’s going to be 84 today and snowing again by Saturday

@guyfromhawthorn @katbyter Oh, that’s funny (the giphy)
@katbyter it looks like the same system, just 12-18 hours after it drops us from 82 (86 yesterday)

@zinimusprime if they had attached a manual push mower instead of wheels they could cut the grass.
Spring? While yesterday looked like the 11th of April, today is apparently the 102nd of January, with an inch of snow on the ground.
Planting and watching things grow.
No more snow, warmer weather, no more coats and soon it will be summer.

30s and snowing right now. 🌨
