I listen to audiobooks while driving and doing chores. My current listen is The Cthulhu Casebooks of Sherlock Holmes- Shadwell Shadows. It’s part of a three volume set of the early cases of Sherlock Holmes written by John Watson. Did you know they met fighting the Old Ones and that Watson’s war injury was actually from a lizard man? I bet you didn’t.
@sammydog01 I don’t do audiobooks but I sure as heck read books so I just bought the first book in the series. There’s another fourth book by somebody else that looks to be on a similar theme but does not seem to have very good ratings so I don’t know if I’ll look at that one or not. Do you like the scary Solstice music around yule?
@Cerridwyn I have another set of three by a different author. I guess Lovecraft and Conan Doyle were contemporaries so it’s a thing? I am not familiar with scary solstice music- do you have a recommendation?
@Cerridwyn@sammydog01 Yesterday I learned that “My Darling Clementine” scans perfectly to Beethoveen’s Ode to Joy. Oh, and there are additional verses.
@sammydog01 Yeah I read that a lot in places. If you don’t know how to get into it it doesn’t really make sense. Not to mention it kind of goes against typical reading styles. Most people want to read and get immersed but obviously with all the footnotes and referencing it’s almost like research.
@carl669@Targaryen The paperback is on sale at Amazon. Part of my problem was that I have bifocals and the print is pretty small- I usually read on a kindle. So I just loaded up my kindle copy to try again. I just have to imagine stuff written in the margins.
@yakkoTDI So that’s where Fink Finley went, that slippery bastard! He owes me money…
But, seriously, one movie on their list that I’ve seen, but probably isn’t as well-known as most of them, is “Freaky.” It was pretty entertaining, a Vince Vaughn tour de force, and his co-star, Kathryn Newton, did a great job, too, switching personalities with his character, a serial killer.
I’m looking for something to listen to while I do chores or whatnot. I’ve never listened to a podcast before (love book on tapes) what I loved was the haunting of hill house and the haunting of bly manor (I’m watch the next few this month) also just watched “the popes exorcist and that gave me the creep

@sammydog01
Many are NSFW
@Cerridwyn That is wonderful.

@sammydog01 @werehatrack and they’re not necessarily nice verses
If you want a creepy book that has some real reread value check out House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.
Note: There are multiple ways to read it. Lots of clues and footnotes if you want to really really understand it.
I enjoyed it.
@Targaryen I read that and didn’t like most of it. I should try it again.

@Targaryen read this a few years ago and loved it! trying to find my copy so the wife can give it a read.

Tampa Theatre has a few things going on.

@Star2236 I can recommend Seanan McGuire’s stuff, particularly the October Daye series.
@Star2236 @werehatrack
Absolutely yes
She has some music out there too, but not one I was planning on listing.
We don’t usually celebrate Halloween, but I like the idea of wearing costumes and giving candies to the kids.
I watched Ghost Story (1981) last night- love that movie. The book is better but it doesn’t star Fred Astaire. I also made a Great Old One.
@sammydog01
THAT’S WONDERFUL!!!
@Kyeh @sammydog01 That’s adorable! And, as a bonus, you could dress him up for Talk Like a Pirate Day & he could double as Davy Jones from PotC!
I went to see When Evil Lurks last night- it was really scary. And kind of disgusting. It even has a goat.
