Some years ago some of you saved the life of a friend's cat. He has just turned 13.
26A bunch of years ago some of you helped a friend’s kitty and paid his vet bill so his family could afford the vet care he needed. He lived and just turned 13. I thought I’d let people know what your generosity did for him and the joy he has given his family.

Is this the Christmas ornament cat?
@Kyeh Yes. Same kitty. He is a really cool cat and would have died had not folks here helped them with their vet bill.
@Kidsandliz Very cute cat.
I feel like this cat and I are walking the same path. Always great to be given a second chance. And pancreatitis sucks.
@capnjb It’s just the worst!! I’ve had chronic pain much of my adult life and nothing is worse than the pain of pancreatitis. Hopefully I will never get it again.
@capnjb @Fuzzalini Yeah it sucks big time. I have chronic pancreatitis (from pancreatic divisim) and fortunately for me the pain from that often it isn’t as bad as it could be. I had a cat who had pancreatitis and then became diabetic. He did well on insulin for several years before he died of kidney failure.
I remember that kitty- so great to see he’s doing well!
@Pony Yes and he is a sweetie - a real love and purr bug. That family continues to be so grateful that people here helped them out financially at the time (husband had just lost his job) they were struggling with all their bills . I see this kittie about once or twice a year when I drive to see family (a 2 day drive) and sometimes make a 90 mile detour to stay with my friend and pet her cats (I used to be an across the street neighbor when I lived there). He always smells me and my stuff suspiciously since I smell like alien cats (eg my 4) before rubbing all over me to mark me as his. Their two cats are their world.
Wow. That’s like 70 in human m
@pakopako We had two that exceeded 23 years, and a friend had one that made it to 38.
Hi kidsandliz, I’m so happy the kitty is doing well! I’d forgotten about their problem, so happy you shared his 13th birthday- yay!
I’ve got an accidental kitty that has been struggling with poor health for a while but seems to be on the mend now. He’s probably about 7 years old, was terrified of everything when he arrived, still does not seem to comprehend that water is a thing to drink, and has only recently begun to accept scritches and recognize kibble as food. (We found a variety of high-nutritional-content kibble that he adores, and that’s making a visible difference in his condition.) Until recently, to control his fleas, we had to rely on slipping him a Capstar pulverized and mixed with some gooshy, which worked but wasn’t ideal. Now he’s casual enough about contact that we can use a regular flea spot treatment for him. He still hasn’t discovered laps, but he’s become vigorous enough to start leaping to high perches to take a nap, he has stopped hiding in tiny concealed spaces, and he seems to be getting along with the other six cats in the main part of the house just fine. His name is Bart (courtesy of his previous people) and he actually seems to respond to it. He’s mostly black with a tiny patch of white at the base of his neck. And he has a permanent small blep. I suspect he’ll find laps acceptable fairly soon now, which might result in catpiles at times if Freya and/or Spike decide to be willing to share. He’s very conversational, but really has only one meow. In that regard, he’s the Hodor (or maybe Station?) of the group.
