Actually one of my favorite presents was homemade wool socks from a friend. They are the warmest, most comfortable socks I own!! It was alai an extremely thoughtful gift.
@tinamarie1974 my dad and i do this every christmas when we get socks even though we like them (and the 24 hour christmas story marathon is always running in the background as well, so one of these years it will line up perfectly, i hope.)
Socks I don’t like suck. Mostly I prefer to buy my own, because I know what I want.
But a couple of years in a row, the step-mother-in-law actually knitted me wool socks. They’re kind of amazing, and very warm. And those two pair pretty much fill my need for wool socks (living in Texas and all). Plus they’re homemade, so you’re unlikely to match their greatness. Good for me, bad for meh.
As an adult, socks are fine as a gift. But remember, if you give a 10-year-old kid socks for Christmas, even the best of kids, who may give you a sincere thank-you, is going to be feeling a dagger in his heart.
I have too many already!
You can never have too many socks

Socks as a gift:
I have too many socks because the Christmas sock bundle doesn’t wear out over the course of a year.

Somebody buys me a 6-pack of Hanes/Fruit of the Loom/etc., and I’m going to turn into the 10-year-old @DrWorm mentions above.
A pair of merino or SmartWool socks and I’ll thank you profusely.
If you buy my funky socks like the kind meh sells but in LADIES sizes not Bigfoot, I’d be the happiest camper in the world.
I have a ton of socks so for me they are a pretty bad gift, even apart from just being boring and unimaginative.
Give Bombas, po people need to feel the love, too.
Every pair you buy a pair is donated. Their wool socks are magnificent
