So what was the deal with Woot and Roomba's?
6And why is Meh bereft of autonomous floor suckers? Them and leakfrogs were the two things I wish I indulged more of during my Woot time and was hoping to make recompense through Meh. Two years later however and I am still robot-less and frog-less.
And yes I know they’ve sold the Neato’s a few times before but that’s my point. It’s only been a handful of times. Leak frogs and later Roomba’s were the speaker docks of Woot for a while. (Also I had some weird thing against the Neato’s because my Roomba served me well for years, I’m over it now though.)
[Also if anyone cares, the reason for wanting both is my singular CatGenie. Those litter stones are everywhere.]

Same"deal" as the speaker docks, Dyson dc41’s and knives here.
Mediocre is really a wholesale business, when they find a good deal, they buy up all they can, sometimes all of them.
They then sell to wholesale customers, and their own sites including meh,( basically a side project set up for the fun of it. If it makes a profit whoo hoo, if not, oh well) morningsave( set up to allow " steals" type specials on TV shows.
@earlyre So they kept accidentally pallets of roomba’s? Or irobot was just more warehouse friendly back in the day?
Or there was a regular, large volume supply of refurbs they could get at good prices…
Also, how many roomba’s did you pass on here, thinking there will be more later? I know for a fact meh sold the one I have from woot that I love. Things here go in spurts, like the drones. People were tired of them after a while and then they were like - why are there no more drones?
If you think you are going to need it in the future, better to buy it when it is available.
@mfladd That’s a good point with the drones, I haven’t seen one in a while. I still think they were a bit more frequent than roomba’s.
I think I remember passing on four or five? Either I was still pouting about wanting specifically a roomba or it was two days before payday.
@mfladd that strategy is why i have so much Meh. stuff still in boxes - “better buy it now while it’s available” - a similar strategy/plot exists at Costco, me thinks
I know Meh has leakfrogs. I got 2 in the Fuko I got a while ago. I have them in my basement right now, guarding against leaks & backed-up septic tanks…

my remaining 2 for tuesday roomba from meh recently died. my fuku neato (1st floor) and the newer meh-costco version neato (2nd floor) are still doing alright. need new roomba for bedroom. it navigates the mess in there better.
What’s the deal with the Leak frog being $60 on Amazon when you can buy the same thing (just not frog shaped) for $12?

@TickledLizard
Only if they’re poisonous.
@RiotDemon LeakFrog is famous now, so the name and design command a price higher than a generic model.
@dashcloud I still don’t understand. You’re going to hide this thing in a basement or behind a water heater. Why does anyone care what it looks like?
@RiotDemon It’s a cute thing with a face, and that’s more attractive than a generic blob of plastic that works the same. Also, it has reputation behind it of being awesome.
For a similar thing, why are cat food cans prettied up and have language that makes the food sound special, when the cats don’t care about the can, just the food.
@RiotDemon Yup. I want me my Leak Frogs. Last time they were on wOOt I bought 3 boxes of them. Plus what I already had scattered around. But I will never pay that amazon price for them.
@mfladd I guess I just don’t understand. It’s something I wouldn’t ever see, so I don’t care what it looks like.
I’ve been watching this thread, which is discussing two topics close to my heart and a big part of my business soul - iRobot and Leak Frog. Hundreds of thousands of new and satisfied customers and a ton of fun (mixed in with some mind blowing numbers: units sold, revenue, turns, blah, blah) with both of those vendor relationships helped make woot relevant in so many ways to so many people. Am glad to have been there… am more gladder to be here helping to bring it!
@Jdub Leak Frogs were my very first purchase/introduction to woot. They’re still on duty, keeping my house dry.
I’d buy a leak frog or two from meh. We’re closing on a house soon and they’d be a welcome safety net. Sadly, I got a couple from woot in a crap bag, but I gave them away as a white elephant gift at the office. What a fool I was.
@therealjrn nice to hear, thanks for sharing. I just spoke with the Leak Frog inventor last week about advising another start-up he’s familiar with. The Leak Frog inventor himself has a number of patents and successful products besides the Leak Frog. He’s onto other projects now related to old folks, which is pretty cool.
@medz I forgot to grab mine when I moved out of my old house 6 months ago. Now I have to wait for my In-laws to move into a retirement facility so I can swipe theirs!!!
@Jdub :3
@Jdub Would you mind telling us what attracted you to the Leak Frog?
Roomba’s what?
