Finally shipped and let’s say I’m already regretting it. Comes in at a whopping 6x4 inches! And weighs less than a lb??? Did they send me an envelope?
@Conklaven They all say that size. It’s just a placeholder for the truck. In reality it could be smaller…it could be larger. Real reality…you’re going to regret it.
@Conklaven For a realistic range of weights and sizes, most of mine have been boxes about 12 x 9 x 14, weighing around 6 to 10 lbs. One was closer to 30 lbs and much larger in dimensions. So far, about 80% of the non-IRK-bag contents have been things that were regifted forward at best. But on initial tracking, they’ve often shown the base minimal dimension and one pound weight. I suspect that the reason for this is that the IRKs themselves are assembled in batches, and then that number of shipping labels is produced and applied to the boxes arbitrarily; they don’t actually weigh and size each one. And since FXG will automatically correct the specs at the depot in Hutchins (if not sooner) when the box passes over one of the automated size-and-weight checkers on the conveyor system, they don’t really need to be accurate about the numbers when they run the labels.
Much to my regret, my IRK arrived today. The only thing that makes it worth $50 are the MSRP stickers on some of the items. Probably among the most disappointing IRKs I’ve received to date, but fortunately I got a refund and the stuff I bought from SideDeal I wanted anyway. I will mostly likely be donating everything except maybe one item and the IRK bag:

@heartny I got some of those UVC pouches a while back; the UV insert went into the e-waste for recycling, and the pouches now hold travel stuff like toiletries that I wanted to keep separate from everything else.

I ordered the Sous Vide, mine died suddenly, and that was the best deal I could find for it so financially I have no regrets. But this extended delay in shipping is not good for my ADHD. By the time I get it, I’m going to forgot what it is and then I’m going to be mad because I’ll just assume someone sent me a bunch of crap as a practical joke.
And then I’ll sign people up for Depends diaper coupons as a way to get even for something they didn’t do.

@ATanYam @Kyeh It was really only the last 2 or so years it likely would have been cheaper to buy another car. Kid called it the ghetto van as it was the era of the peeling paint and looked like crap. Easy to find in a parking lot. Was a grand caravan and not a toyota or honda van. Who would have thought that brand would last like that.
At about year 17 or 18 I got the ignition kill fixed and the shop asked me why as no one would steal that thing. I told them my daughter would. And she tried to once (or perhaps more than once but I only knew about once as the following was not a mistake she repeated). She said to me one Saturday morning, “Mom the ghetto van is broken”. I said, “And how would you know that?”. Told on herself. She never figured out why she couldn’t take it as she never saw me disarm it when we’d go somewhere together or later when she was licensed let her drive it somewhere and yet leave it armed at other times.
The “instant regret” was strong with this one. I didn’t bother to take any photos, but what I got was:

@Star2236 they’ll fit key fobs too, although many want cr2032 which are twice as thick. A cr2016 and a penny will do the job, although it will last half as long as the 2032 because more thickness holds more capacity.
Don’t stack two together, that doubles the voltage and might break your fob.

Also N-95 masks, 2 heavy duty wall chargers (maybe useful); 2Trakr pixels (definitely NOT useful); a nice set of rubberstamp letters (will use!) and an electric shaver - maybe my legs will look better than usual this summer. Not bad but glad I didn’t pay for it (just hope the Sidedeal vacuum is worth what I paid for IT!)

@Star2236 I tried it yesterday and I DO LIKE IT! I’ve had a heavy corded Kenmore canister vac for years and this little Shark makes vacuuming seem so easy! The only thing I don’t like, the thing that’s put me off trying this kind of vacuum, is that it’s bagless. I realize that makes for more suction power, but dealing with that icky dirty dust container is still a drag. I guess it’s worth it though, because this thing is SO much lighter and quieter and easier to maneuver. I might just vacuum often now!
@Kyeh I got the vacuum too, my daughter laid claims on my “old” one…it’s only about 6 months old. Plus the attachments are different.

I bought a shark last Amazon prime day and I LOVE it. Yes I hate the bag less feature too (especially since I’m allergic to mold and dust) but I’ll just take it outside, put a mask on and empty it into a bag or straight into my garbage can. It actually turned off last time I used bc it was so full from me not emptying it (I don’t do it as often as I should obviously). It works great on my wood floors for sucking up the dirt in between the cracks, I hated taking the shop vac around to do it.

@meow57 I agree, it was just a coincidence. I got the iLife vacuum in an irk too and I use it all the time for my kitchen. (My shark dies by the time I make it that far, not a big house 1200 square feet). I absolutely love the iLife. Others have hair it doesn’t have enough power but it works fine for me and my boyfriend can be messy. It has a little spinning brush on the side that catches everything along the edges and spits it out in front the vacuum, actually super useful for the kitchen. It’s a great vacuum for hard services just doesn’t work well for carpet.

Dumping the dust cup is icky but then cleaning out the dust and hair that sticks inside is even ickier. I saw a model of Shark that has a self-emptying dock and was very tempted, but going by the reviews, they haven’t perfected that feature yet.

Even the self emptying ones I don’t see how girls long hair wouldn’t get stuck in there. It’s the downfall of all cordless vacuums.
@Kyeh yes, it was the different model, picked it up at Walmart (paid more for it than I did this one). I suggest ordering replacement filters so you have them on hand for a quick change. I typically just rinse them out and let it dry, pop in the spare, alternate system. But I live out in BFE so we have a lot of dirt/dust. Might not need it if you are a city dweller.

I’m happy for those getting amazing stuff like luggage and fountains; I’m hopeful for someday. I didn’t post the last couple as one was just a beat up manufacturer’s box with an even more beat up, nonworking room air purifier and an IRK bag shoved in the box. (I know it’s supposed to be 3 items but I was like whatever). I got excited for a minute when I saw a Cuisinart box in my last Irk, but it was a manual plastic ricer/dicer that was missing parts, so more garbage.

There are a few annoying things in how it operates (eg the controls) and some of the sounds are useless, but there are a couple of white noise sounds on that that I find useful to try to drown out the noice in this apartment building.

I don’t think yours was THAT bad. A hair dryer, smartwatch, white noise machine, fruit/veg bag and a nifty pen. I would have been with that.
@Star2236 calling that thing a smartwatch is a misnomer. It’s worse than my 10 year old fitbit which I still use.
@blaineg regret is an underwhelming term for paying to be a designated trash receptacle.

@kuzaki @metaphore I got one box-o-RAM too. Glad someone else got one so we can figure out what to do with it. Thought it was random e-waste but then I saw they were 32GB Micron sticks which are recent. The tray was open and cracked and DRAM sticks were scattered around the interior o the box.
Of course, raises all sorts of questions. How did they end up here? Are they good or rejects? Why? Why? Why?
Also it’s “registered ECC server memory” which means in only works with specific systems designed for it. Which tend to be very expensive. You probably can’t slap these into your gaming computer.
Will write more tomorrow about my IRK and try to figure out what to do.

I was ready to offer to buy some, but alas, I’m fresh out of enterprise server hardware to stick it in. Would have loved to bump all my desktops to max RAM capacity.

). 1 phone holder clamp thingy. 4 tiny slow car chargers for phone. Travelocity branded I think. 1 plastic case for Mac Book Pro I don’t own. And a blue Yeti branded down jacket. Looks like this one. Didn’t realize they made clothes. Thought they only made coolers. Thanks for the goodies irk elfs!

@milstarr @poids yeah nice jacket makes it a good irk, especially if it’s the right size. I think it’s just funny though that this “puffer” fad is new and people wear them on the streets as fashion items. About 40 years ago there were very similar down jackets but they were for skiing and never thought there was any fashion statement one way or the other.
@milstarr @pmarin with my Covid weight gain still hanging out with me the size is a perfect fit. They’re not fashion statements to me they’re body warmth keepers. Kind of like a coozie for the body. ;p

My irk came in during a storm and I wasn’t home to take it in. By the time I got home, a second blast of rain had come and gone. For what it was worth, the box really did stand up to the water.
Ironically inside was an oversized umbrella. (And two headphones, some 2010 USB cables & car adapters, a kids tactile textuers book that amazingly remained mostly dry)
@pakopako kind cool the Silly Squid. and when you think about it, even if the silly squid ended up in water it would probably be happy.
My regret of not posting this sooner is greater than the contents of the IRK. Lo and behold, another IRK is on the way so let’s see what I got.

Yes, I finally got an IRK bag. I can’t tell if the bag is black or dark blue. Either way, I love it.
But wait, there’s one more item left:
A second IRK bag of the same color.
Overall, I really don’t know how much of this I’m going to keep. I’m definitely keeping one of the IRK bags (would like to get an additional bag in a different color). I may have a use for the fanny pack, but the rest I’m thinking of donating or saving for a future Meh exchange.
