@pakopako I would buy it, if there was an adapter for using a single 18650 cell.
I want a new waterproof flashlight. I had an original shake light that lasted for several years, but that was decades ago. My inner 8 year old likes to swim underwater at night with goggles and a flashlight.
@OnionSoup@pakopako You can tell that it is junk from the brand name and the fact that it is less than 40 years old. The only features that make this potentially worthwhile are that it is waterproof, and that it can carry stuff.
As a flashlight it will be outperformed by anything sold by harbor freight.
@OnionSoup@pakopako Now that I have seen the feature list, I want a quality product that actually has those features.
I only kayak on a very slow river. So if the strobe is bright enough, I would be able to follow and catch up with the flashlight if I drop it in the water. I should be able to find it when it gets stuck in the weeds.
If the flashlight works well enough under water, I can use it in the backyard pool.
I have silicone grease for O-rings, so I guess I will give them a try.
@hamjudo@OnionSoup@pakopako As a flashlight, this is probably outperformed by the ones that come with a lot of newer cell phones. (I have seen a few that were DAMMIT intense.)
@OnionSoup@pakopako@werehatrack The flashlights arrived today. There is an O-rings seal for the battery compartment, but it appears to be too thin to form a seal. There are no O-rings in the O-ring slots for the two supposedly waterproof compartments.
All of the electrical bits are removable, so I will be able to test if it is waterproof, without destroying it.
The push button switch is inside the “waterproof” battery compartment. The external button pushes on the internal button through a flexible membrane. So that may actually be waterproof. The water sensor contacts appear to also be waterproof. The light did start flashing red after I touched the contacts with a wet finger.
The light won’t be useful underwater without a simple modification. When the sensor detects water, the light goes to flashing red, even if it was turned on white when dry. A piece of electrical tape on the circuit board can block the connection to the pass throughs that lead to the external water sensor contacts.
@OnionSoup@pakopako@werehatrack The segments are designed to latch together with a quarter turn. The manufacturing is not very high quality or particularly uniform. One of my compartment lids is so far out of tolerance that nothing will stay attached to it. The others have varying degrees of hold.
Don’t assume that the small compartment will remain attached to the big compartment, or that the carry handle loop will stay attached to anything.
If the latching mechanism worked reliably, you could stack all of the little compartments onto a single flashlight.
If I ever need to take small children to a beach or pool, the little compartments are a good size to hold snackbar money and a locker key. When the compartments leak, damp money is still money.
One of the two had a cracked plastic housing so I’ll probably throw away the plastic bits and throw the electrical bits into my student project bin (I teach robotics). The other one seems to work well and as others have said doesn’t seem like it would be too hard to make truly waterproof. I’ll probably have a student do that too.

@pakopako unfortunately neither sidedeal nor hsn bother to say how many lumens it is- so no idea if good or junk.
