I don’t like this irk. Gotta buy 6 separate, different deals just to get to “normal” irk price. I very much doubt they’ll have many meh deals for $5 or less, so you’ll end up paying more than your discount
Who’s the “genius” that concocted this Ponzi-like scheme?? Buy 8 different items and get only $5 off (regardless of price paid) for each individual purchase to obtain $40 off an IRK!! What the heck are you guys smoking?? All I have to say is What DAFUQ man??
@IndifferentDude Right! Im sittin this one out. Buuut…If I get 8 people to buy 8 things and they each get 8 people to buy 8 things…everybody wins right?!
Just when you thought they had hit a sustainable, albeit having taken the fun out of it, IRK purchase model, they come up with an even less agreeable one, and for the Valentine’s Meh-rathon to boot! I guess one of the suggestions got stuck in the bottom of the box and someone thought “hey, let’s use this one to throw a turd in the chocolate box if love!” Oh, I can’t wait for the whining on this one!
If the next Irk event is one of these “you have to spend a shitload in the mehrathon to have the privilege of buying an Irk” kind of things, I will cancel my VMP. The fun is gone. I’ll just buy a $5 scratch ticket every month with the money instead.
Zero incentive to stay tuned to the mehrathon. Zero excitement. No thrill of the chase/hunt. Total yawn fest.
Once I no longer have free shipping, zero reason to check meh at all.
@medz@medz Of course at 5AM central, without warning, they offered 50 irks for $10. Looks like it might have been opened for close to 2 hours (if the person who posted an hour ago posted right after getting one). Speaks to how few are staying up anymore. Irks in the middle of the night used to close nearly as quickly as during the day. Hopefully they will offer more than 50 at some other point today (like members only or just out of the blue for everyone).
And yes the entire character of metharons has really changed which is sad. Those days used to be so fun with all the activities going on where we did things, posted about it, took photos, etc. and with some of them irks were given away to at least one (and sometimes more than that) of the participants… It’s sad as that was one of the things that made meh special and more than a fire sale store, built community and brought us together.
Of course the entire company has changed over time as they have grown, expanded and matured, the octopus has married and has had kids so his focus and how he needs and wants to spend his time has changed too (I miss his occasional contributions and conversations asking us opinions or speculating about where the company was going/what it was doing), the finances of offering irks has changed due to inflation and shipping going up not to mention in the past they offered them far less frequently.
Welp. If somehow 8 things come up that I want, I’ll get an IRK. I don’t see the point in spending more than a penny, though, on the crap I’ve gotten the last three times. Which might be all of the times? I forget.
If buying more than one of a deal counted multiple times, I’d be far more likely to actually hit that number of deals. As it stands, pretty unlikely.
@Nate311 Yes a nice surprise they offered 50 of those traditional style in the middle of the night. It must have been open for ages as it was posted 2+ hours ago and you got it an hour ago (well presuming you posted here close to right after getting one).
@Kidsandliz@Nate311 And that shows just how much the switch to the endless SideDeal IRKs has caused the long-time night watch mehmbers to lose interest and just get some sleep instead of hanging out in forlorn hope of scoring a treasured IRK.
@speediedelivery Of course do that in the middle of the day with so few and most wouldn’t even be able to have it load before it sold out.
Irks showing up like this is intermittent reinforcement to keep checking meh. Intermittent reinforcement creates behavior that is the hardest to extinguish. If meh wants us here on the site all day over and over for these mehathons that’s what they need to do - or at least do enough of that people keep coming back and checking rather than skipping it and then never scrolling through what was for sale. Of course that they leave deals open all day also doesn’t reinforce keep coming back to meh all day either as it might as well be sidedeal or morningsave then since this stuff is on those sites before and often after mehathons. Sometimes pennies cheaper here and sometimes not.
@Kidsandliz@Nate311 They probably read all the negative comments about their new scheme to make us part with our money and take more of their unwanted shit and decided to try to lessen the damage by throwing us a few crumbs (50 IRKs @ $10. Too late, the damage has been done.
@Felton10@Nate311 Well it isn’t like how they do things is set in stone. I’ve been on here since about a week after they started this forum and have seen a number of changes over time - some for the better and some for the worse. Hopefully they are still receptive to what the community thinks. On the other hand if they are making more money this way and getting rid of stuff the can’t otherwise get rid of quickly then clearly the incentive is not going to be “the old way”. I am just glad they decided to change slightly what they were doing in the face of the opposition and complaints - especially by some old timers and kickstarters. They had built a wonderful community which isn’t all that common in the for profit world and it has worked as even people who complain about the irk changes over and over are still here to complain (). Even though Snapster had stated that he kept us around mostly for nostalgia’s sake as we didn’t make him much money hopefully he will continue to care that the community is nurtured in ways that matter to us.
@sunnysideup22 I think you are limited in how many times you buy on deal. The rules would appear to imply/state that they have to be 8 different deals, not multiples of the same deal.
Most irks suck a anyway, but having to buy $40 worth of meh, makes it suck more. I like the good old days when everyone would bitch about not getting a 5 dollar irk, fuko,BOC.
It seems that they usually sell 700+ Irks during a Meh-rathon (between Sidedeal and Meh)
So far they’ve had 100 on Meh, and Sidedeal states 100+ sold.
My question is: what are they going to do with the other 500 or so boxes of “recyclables “?
Assuming that they prepared the usual amount.

/showme disgruntled dude boycotting buying junk in front of computer
@medz That could’ve been so different with carefully/carelessly selected punctuation:
Actually, I’m thinking that might be the scene the AI depicted.
Now, that could go either of two ways, depending on the interpretation of “junk.”
I think this is finally one that I will skip.

Oh, yes I can.
$40 for the Irk, or buy 8 other boxes to get the Irk box for a penny.

I woke up this morning, and there was an IRK, sitting pretty on the main page. The only hoops I needed to jump through were CAPTCHA related.
I installed CAPTCHA to save my fellow robots from wasting money on this crap.

Somebody had to say it.
@Kidsandliz I bought it at 5:03 am
@Nate311 Well cool for you that they were still open, with only 50 for sale, 3 minutes later. How many were sold when you bought yours?
@Kidsandliz it was sold out at in 5 minutes with the timer set for 10 minutes.
@speediedelivery Of course do that in the middle of the day with so few and most wouldn’t even be able to have it load before it sold out.

@Kidsandliz I didn’t take the time to check. The very extended checkout process probably took 80-90 seconds.

Can I buy one set, but buy it 8 different times?

@somf69 You’re in luck, enjoy some vintage IRK griping! (Though at inflation adjusted levels.)
https://meh.com/forum/topics/instant-regret-kit-471
Hey Meh, how 'bout we all just send you $40.01 and you throw the IRK stuff straight into the dumpster for us?
@lisagd

@lonocat If they don’t sell this time they will go out in the next one.
I like how all the deals this time around are expensive items, since they want to trick you into making 8 different purchases.
They’re starting to run their business like one of those F2P mobile phone games. Maybe we’re gonna start seeing “800% value!” soon.
@ShotgunX Well meh is known for trying out all sorts of different ways to sell as much as they can.
I stand with the other grumpy fuckers.
You’re just going to get a box of trackers… hand sanitizer and some old bed sheets… and maybe a small size women body shaper …
@natekimh Don’t forget the highly coveted and extremely useful MacBook Pro Hard Case!!
@IndifferentDude @natekimh Yes. I have a pink one and a black one and I can’t even sell them for $3
I’ll let the clown speak for me:
