Shut Up And Eat: National Nachos Day
10So far the “deals” are a little scarce.
Best I’ve seen seems to be at On The Border.
If you find any other good offers, please share.

I like to make my own that are pretty plain and simple: microwaved chips with shredded sharp cheddar and jalapeños.
Note: these are not health food.

But it’s made of corn, right? So nachos = vegetables, right?
@narfcake
That’s the nacho ticket!

@narfcake with the exception of the type with ground beef, it’s all Vegetables! You can eat as much as you want and be healthy!

Best nachos I ever had were at El Pinto in ABQ. Not gonna make the dinner hour for that one, though.
Came along with a friend who went to Chipotle to “get his nachos.” It was just a bag of stale corn chips and a little cup of “queso,” which looked like a cup of “cheez” with some spices mixed in. Cashier said “nine fifty.”
What?
I had nachos at the Taco Bell across the street for barely more than half that price, and they were loaded with meat, cheese, cream, etc.

“Ya’ll kill me with all this praise for Chipotle as good as Taco Bell
been to you. Back when you was dead broke where was Chipotle? You
don’t abandon ya folks that’s been down from day one. You got a lil
money now so you too good for a cheesy Gordita Crunch? You gotta drop
at least $12 to eat good at Chipotle but Taco Bell used to fill you up
for $3.75 AND you got a Baja Blast Mountain Dew. A lot of ya’ll forgot
where you came from and it’s sad…Not me though. Chicken Chalupas
'til I Die, #FireSauce” – Roy Wood Jr
NO. I won’t do it. I was going to say because I don’t have ingredients on hand but I could probably fry some tortillas. Thaw out some hamburger. Melt some frozen cheese. The lettuce might be questionable… I only have tomato sauce… I mean I could make a shitty one but it’s def not worth it for a completely made up day. Who even is approving this shit
Nachos in South Africa, made by Indians. (Chicken tacos too.)
The tacos were a reasonable facsimile, but the nachos were made with corn chips coated in curry flavor.
@blaineg did you have “burgers”? I’m convinced it wasn’t beef, at least not all off it. And did you see the “ketchup”? Some strange pink concoction that tasted like nothing I’ve ever had before or since.
@ybmuG I had several burgers, most were fine, a couple were great, all were unquestionably beef.
Various game meats were on the menu in a few places (mostly near Kruger Park), but I didn’t want to blow the price of a whole meal to find out I didn’t like it. If they’d had a sampler platter I probably would have tried it.
The beef steaks I had were amazing. They tended to be only 3-4" in diameter, but 2" or more thick.
@ybmuG Chicken is really big over there, but in some places it’s feet and livers.
@blaineg sounds like you went to better places than we did! We did seriously have good meals and the steakhouses were good. The “burger” we had was at a McDonald’s-ish place off the highway and not near a large city - and it was 11 years ago. Never did do the chicken feet thing. I feel like I missed out…
The secret to nacho bliss - sodium citrate, or in other words:

@blaineg Oh yes, we know all about that here.

And of course…
So full but so worth it!
@sillyheathen are you going to share? That looks delicious
@tinamarie1974 come on over. I love feeding people!
@sillyheathen oh we would be in trouble. I am Sicilian. You can’t leave without eating 5lbs of SOMETHING
/giphy sicilian dinner
@tinamarie1974 I made a Thai/vietnamese inspired curry tonight.
@sillyheathen I have never had curry, but it looks delicious
@tinamarie1974 then you definitely need to come over. Indian curries are my specialty but I love the se Asian ones too! I’m all about the spices. My cupboard is kind of ridiculous. I also grow pretty much any herb you can think of.
@sillyheathen that sounds amazing and would be really interesting.
I grow Basil, rosemary, sage and figs. The fig plant is actually a start from a start from a start, etc from the plant my G Grandparents brought with them on the boat from Sicily. Lots of Italian and Mexican food cooked in my kitchen. Not Mexican, but I worked there for a minute and love their cuisine
@tinamarie1974 I would list all the edibles but everyone would get bored and annoyed and start throwing rotten tomatoes. Im ridiculous. I own it. I have a fig as well which I love. It’s recovering from an incident with a backhoe from last summer.
@sillyheathen @tinamarie1974 jealous of your generational fig. My great aunt had a grape vine that came from one her parents had brought from Italy (they came in 1896). When we sold the house we realized no one had grabbed a shoot…
@sillyheathen @ybmuG there is also a lot of pressure with the generational fog. God forbid I kill it!!! Lucky fig is pretty hearty.
Sorry about your grapes. How long gas it been? Would it be too weird to approach them and explain the back story asking if you could buy a start?
@sillyheathen @tinamarie1974 oh, that was the mid 80s. Would be interesting to see if it is still there. Not a neighborhood you want to be caught looking into people’s back yards though.
@sillyheathen @tinamarie1974 just looked at the satellite view. The entire back yard looks like a concrete patio around a pool. I’m thinking the grapes are long gone…
@sillyheathen @ybmuG awww, I am very sorry. That is
I did not eat nachos today. I did, however, have a large ice cream at a very good ice cream place with mom. She also had a large. We then weren’t hungry and so skipped dinner. Yum.
@Kidsandliz glad you are having a good time with your mom?
@tinamarie1974 So far.
