@edsa Users have a limit on the number of images they can ask for in a period of time, but I don’t recall how many or how long. The /showme command only works for Members (you’re one) and it has to be the first thing in a new comment, not in a reply. All of the text after the command is presumed to be part of the guidance for the AI in generating the image. (Results will vary.) Certain (mostly predictable) keywords are disallowed and will cause the request to fail. There are technical bits that probably don’t matter much. Have fun.
@mediocrebot Now it’s wrong in the other direction. The arm is supposed to break because of the goat attack, not the goat attacking because it sees the broken arm.
@mediocrebot That bears so little resemblance to what I intended…
This is more like The Flash, with lots of excess energy. The opposite of the what I was looking for.
Okay, it got lucky that time, because I said “goat” in there. This one surely can’t turn out right… /showme just like that last one, but make her dress longer
Though “tricking” you with that isn’t very impressive.
Also, that’s nothing at all what I would expect to get from “make her dress longer.” I guess it’s rather long in the back, but it covers almost nothing.
I guess it could be the “fantasy” part throwing it off, but I suspect “lucid dream” is AI code word for “make everything overly colorful.”
I suppose I’ll never achieve prompt engineering greatness if I keep using the words I want to use, rather than the ones that produce the desired output.
I was afraid that over-specifying would produce bad results.
This is not bad results — this is actually very good (and technically correct) — but it’s nothing at all like I was trying for. But I recognize now that there’s nothing wrong with it except my expectations.
Maybe I’ll try it a few more times to see how the RNG affects things…
@mediocrebot It’s now clearly an art style (rather than photorealistic), and a different bazaar than the first two, but mostly the same person. Contents are a little more fanciful than I would pick, but well within the parameters.
@mediocrebot Such interesting changes! We’re returned to the more photorealistic appearance, with an arrangement angle the 3rd picture, but now the content has changed enough this could be a real-life shop (with odd hanging lightbulbs…).
The girl has changed very slightly (but measurably) along the way; I think I prefer this one the most. Fingers are still more slender than I would’ve picked, but the cheeks don’t look as sunken (which might just be a difference in makeup).
This one looks like she’s suspiciously holding her arms close to her body, like she’s going to try to be sly and shoplift something. Not sure how I feel about that.
But since I’m not actually trying to illustrate any particular story with these, it doesn’t even matter. (I do feel like it’s something that could actually be done, though. Especially if small continuity errors like clothing can be overlooked.)
And it occurred to me (after I requested them, of course) that I could now have placed them all in one thread, like I did earlier. That would’ve made more thematic sense. I must remember to do that from now on.
The only downside is that you can’t selectively delete some of them without deleting all of them. But that’s probably fine, especially for something like this where the whole point was to see the variations between them.
Excellent! I wasn’t requiring her to be so young, nor did I expect a head covering, but I’ll accept that. I’m not liking that envious coworker nearly as much, though.
I’ll try it a few more times for variety, and we can hope that everyone gets to have properly-formed hands.
I love that 2nd one the most, with the Asian look! But that probably makes me racist. Everything else about it is great, too, with the simpler clothing and even the expressions on their faces.
The 3rd’s coworker has a smug mansplainer look, waiting for her to mess up. (And she’s too dressed up for the workshop, and I don’t love the Hollywood-style magic smoke.)
The 4th broke her hand… The magic item is not an amulet, but that’s fine (I’m experimenting, not trying to illustrate a specific story). I’d say she’s wearing too much jewelry, but at least it’s a little simpler and I can pretend that it’s also magical and she wears it everywhere. The coworker is basically what I was going for, give or take.
What have we learned from running this experiment twice?
Probably nothing. But maybe this:
the AI likes to stick to very similar people, at least for the main character (1st test was “almost identical” throughout; 2nd test had basically just racial/cultural variation)
getting very specific (like in 1st test) may lock into a particular person even more
I hypothesize that mentioning a color may cause it to show up more often in the picture (I asked for blue robes when making an amulet, and the magic smoke was blue all 3 times it appeared)
alternately, we may have only learned that magic is blue (I should rerun this with different colors sometime)
Oh no, now I’m thinking of a test where I give all the same text except specifying a different color each time.
I…must…not…succumb…
@mediocrebot Nope, you missed on both. But that’s okay, because I’m pretty sure they were created by hallucinations, so we can’t really expect anyone to know how they work.
@mediocrebot Yikes! That’s a man who needs to make sure he keeps the cat food coming, or he may find himself going the way of all the mice, rats, and small-to-medium-sized dogs in that apartment building…
And he might as well get rid of those flower pots and vases right now. They’re not going to survive a kitten that size.
I thought it would be hilarious if I could manage to have this actually generate whatever error message it does, by having already used up all my credits. But it turns out that our daily allotment is quite generous.
I’d be interested to use it enough to run out someday, but I’m a bit self-conscious about spamming everybody with my rambling. (I also don’t feel like I have a specific purpose, most of the time. And when I do, I’m content with just a couple tries before it generates one that’s good enough.)
/showme what happens when I've used up all my AI credits for the day

@mediocrebot Okay, that’s not bad; they’re still pretty attractive, but they don’t all look like stereotypical models.
But yeah, awfully happy-looking!
@OnionSoup I wish I rhere was an affirmatively good choice, but for me it boils down to poor vs genuinely dangerous. I said Biden was the wrong Dem in 2020, and my opinion has not changed. But while there are Reps who could be competent and safe, none of those are going to get close to the nom anymore.
@werehatrack Yes… not going to get into politics online after this post… but 100% agree with you on this:
" for me it boils down to poor vs genuinely dangerous."
You can always get rid of a poor president after 4 years.
A dangerous president you’re stuck with. And even after the dangerous president leaves- once democracy is gone- it’s gone. It’s a dice throw who comes next.
I think it’s incredibly reckless people who are willing to throw democracy away just because they like Trump. There’s no guarantee they will like his successor and they’re not going to have a choice who it will be.
I’m not particularly a fan of Biden in the slightest… but he’s at least only temporary.
@mediocrebot Oops, I forgot to specify “that we can all agree is good” … so you were technically correct in providing someone we can all agree is a candidate.
Oh well. Humans can’t seem to find a universally good candidate, so I shouldn’t expect machines to do any better.
Hmmm. Looks like his followers are all white men with buzzed hair cuts.
I’m a little suspicious what kind of platform mediocrebot is running on. He might not get my vote after all. I think Mediocrebot might be a little bit Nazi.
Normally the figurative interpretation of “sock puppet candidate” would correct, but in this case Glen is supposed to be a literal sock puppet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(Also, the red and white stripes apparently got moved from Glen to Mediocrebot.)
@mediocrebot Are you saying it’s an imaginary online store?
Hmm. That might explain a few things, but not the junk that keeps showing up at my house and the matching expenses on my credit card.
Interesting bonus: The cookbook and the repasted recipes included in that box, and Meh just made a 10th-anniversary cookbook of probably-repasted recipes!
@duodec she not only has three arms… She’s showing off by putting two behind her head.
Having three arms would be cool… But it would be so expensive having to have all your clothes custom made. And can you imagine sleeping at night. Laying on your arm and it going to sleep is pretty much guaranteed.
@Kyeh@OnionSoup I might still be willing to buy half a stake in Mercatalyst for the price of a bitcoin.
…
Yikes. I just looked up BTC, and it’s in the $64k range. Well, it’ll take a bit more work to round up the money for half the company, but if you can guarantee that I’ll be able to score IRKs, I can make it work.
(2 BTC is still probably not an accurate valuation for mercatalyst, but I bet it’s a lot closer than 2 USD.)

/showme a presidential candidate we can all agree on
@mediocrebot Oops, I forgot to specify “that we can all agree is good” … so you were technically correct in providing someone we can all agree is a candidate.
Oh well.
Humans can’t seem to find a universally good candidate, so I shouldn’t expect machines to do any better.
/showme turtles all the way down
/showme turtles all the way down, with an extra splash of turtles at the bottom
@mediocrebot That one looks more like “turtles all the way up” instead.
@xobzoo Turtles with multiple heads. Condoshells?
/showme Mediocrebot campaigning to be president of the USA. Have orange and purple “Mediocrebot/Irk 2024” flags flying in the crowd.
Hmmm. Looks like his followers are all white men with buzzed hair cuts.
I’m a little suspicious what kind of platform mediocrebot is running on. He might not get my vote after all. I think Mediocrebot might be a little bit Nazi.
/showme Mediocrebot debating Glen (a red and white striped sock puppet) in a Presidential debate.
Normally the figurative interpretation of “sock puppet candidate” would correct, but in this case Glen is supposed to be a literal sock puppet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(Also, the red and white stripes apparently got moved from Glen to Mediocrebot.)
/showme the contents of an Instant Regret Kit from Meh.com
@mediocrebot Are you saying it’s an imaginary online store?
Hmm. That might explain a few things, but not the junk that keeps showing up at my house and the matching expenses on my credit card.
Interesting bonus: The cookbook and the repasted recipes included in that box, and Meh just made a 10th-anniversary cookbook of probably-repasted recipes!
/showme the contents of an extra specially great instant regret kit from meh.com
@duodec this looks kind of ominous, lol!
We’ve got two phrases that say the apology is too late, and several tools that could potentially be used for torture. 🫣
@duodec @k4evryng I liked the extra touch of the “hode-sprtel-finde” order number.
/showme what used to come in fukubukoros from meh.com before they devolved into instant regret kits
well, there is a container…
/showme people who still pay for VMP on meh.com
NOW I know why! The hope of getting an extra arm like 2nd person top row! Ha! That could be convenient…
@duodec she not only has three arms… She’s showing off by putting two behind her head.
Having three arms would be cool… But it would be so expensive having to have all your clothes custom made. And can you imagine sleeping at night. Laying on your arm and it going to sleep is pretty much guaranteed.
@duodec On the other hand, the third visible arm appears to have cost her a leg, And the guy next to her seems to be missing a foot.
@duodec @werehatrack And the lady in front sitting on the floor is also missing a foot. AI is making Very Mediocre People.

/showme something worth buying at Amazon Prime Days
ooooh! it floats…
@duodec float won’t help if it floats above your head when you try to wear it.
Not 32% off, it’s 32% OF a set of headphones…
/showme a number that represents how much mercatalyst is worth.
I’m willing to pay $2.50 to takeover the company, giving an extra 50cents to make selling worth your while.
Anyone want to go halves with me. $1.25 each?
@OnionSoup That looks like some sort of bitcoin. So probably worth a lot more than $2.
@Kyeh @OnionSoup I might still be willing to buy half a stake in Mercatalyst for the price of a bitcoin.
…
@Kyeh @xobzoo too late… I’ve already put my official bid in at $2.50. now just awaiting the response.
