The last picture has a solid base not tri-pod style. What is with that. I have thought about it for a while and I am well, just discusted. Why would you mess with my mind. Solid or tri-pod. I really have to think about it for a while. Oh Geeees, I’m getting sick to my stomach. Ok, Ok… I’ll pass. Nevermind…
@bugger@Kyeh@pmarin@user04425433 Yup. Had to read it and Animal Farm, which i thought made pretty much the same points, but a lot subtler, so to me was the masterpiece between the two, though 1984 probably got more notoriety.
Well this deal doesn’t really blow me away. I’m not a fan of it. However the pictures of the fans sure are some sharper image(s) than others I’ve seen online!
@Mandamm remotes for items like fans tend to be generic junk from China that can purchase for nearly nothing.
This remote probably cost them 20¢ in bulk
@DrunkCat@ItalianScallion@yakkoTDI It’s like when you start watching a TV season and a bunch of episodes in, you still don’t know what is going on. But you keep watching.
@fmarzano most likely not. I own a vornado fan from Costco (different model) and it doesn’t retain its speed setting if turned on and off as far as I know—unless you want it to be on the lowest speed, which is what it defaults to when turned on. Hope that helps!
I bought a few in these in past. Have one in our guest room and sent the others to college with my kids. The smaller one is a good dorm room sized fan.
… and they work very well as far as fans go.
military-graceful-part Definitely needed bunches of these when we lived military housing with no AC. Told us Californians didn’t NEED AC. We suffered through one of the hottest summers they had in years. Wore out all the fans we had then.
@mehmef Yeah I used to travel to France for work (yes, tough life but somebody had to do it). This was 25 years ago. Almost nothing had A/C. Got a small weekly apartment and one night drove to a Home-Depot-equivalent where we bought a window fan to at least give us some cooler air in the evening. A fan is way better than nothing.
@mehmef@pmarin fans don’t cool the air, they just move it faster. Like when you breathe out hot air or blow cold air; they’re both technically warm, one just comes out slower and the other comes out faster.
What you need with a fan is either incredible speed (but then you’re in a wind tunnel) or a “swamp cooler” + dehumidifier. A swamp cooler you can make yourself since it’s basically a fan with an ice cube behind it (the air around the ice cube picks up the cold droplets and gets sucked into the fan which splashes you with cold mist) - and a dehumidifier to keep you dry (to remove the mist that sticks to you before it warms back up… or else you’ll be wiping yourself off with a towel lot).
Typical DIY swamp coolers/ghetto AC units involve using styrofoam to build a beer cooler (or cutting a hole in an existing beer cooler) where you replace one of the cooler walls with a fan and then fill the cooler up with bags of ice (that you could re-freeze when they melt). The air inside the cooler around the bags of ice will always be damp and cold as it gets sucked into the back of the fan and sprayed out.
California also has wildfires and plenty of DIY filters.
@pakopako@pmarin I’m moved away from California and live in the Sothern U.S. where it gets even hotter. Fans might not cool the air but if you
have it pointed at yourself it does make it feel like the air is cooler. I do know the reason for that also. We’ve even tried swamp coolers when the AC is not working or the power is out. Swamp coolers aren’t that helpful after a time because they do increase the humidity in the room. It just made the heat more unbearable. But if they work for other situations that is wonderful for the users.

I am a Vornado fan fan.
@yakkoTDI Ok, whew! For a minute I thought you were a Vornado fan, which would have been … ambiguous.

@bugger Bugger is bugging. Go figure.
@bugger
is that when you are both “disgusted” and “discussed”?
or just not sure?
@bugger @phendrick he’s concusseded
@bugger Last pic w/ the solid base is AI generated, so you can put away your fears knowing it has a tripod base and BUY BUY BUY.
@bugger @jeffnology Can AI be sued/fined/taken to the woodshed for false advertising?
@bugger @phendrick @user04425433
And nonplussed.
@phendrick Exactly!!
@bugger @Kyeh @user04425433 “nonplussed” seems like a definite minus.

It was foreseen and we finally got there. Highly recommend the novel. I had to read it in high school; probably banned now.

@bugger @jeffnology AI should have designed and built it - that version is COOLER.

Huge fan of Vornado Fans… I have the 12, the remote is iffy, but fan is ok, pretty quiet. I have some older ones That are Awesome!
POPSOCKETS! ROAD ROCKETS! SONNY CROCKETT! AWESOME!

So, I noticed that there are no cords or plugs pictured.
Does that mean that these are cordless rechargeable fans? [Apparently not, per the Lowes product info page which states: “Plug-in”]
Also, I noted that they operate at 24 Volts and variable Watts- what gives with that?
Do they come with a proprietary power supply? because our house outlets are all 110-115-120 volts [one of those is correct, I think…]
[Again, per Lowes- the motor operates on DC, so an adapter/transformer is likely provided?]
Inquiring minds, etc…
I got the v10 in a previous meh-rathon to pay for my IRK. It has done a good job for a good price.

If you put this to the ear of an “AI” user you can hear whistling come out the other side.
@DrunkCat Awwww. It is so cute that you are still trying.
@yakkoTDI The question, though, is what is “@DrunkCat” trying to do?
@DrunkCat
@DrunkCat @ItalianScallion @yakkoTDI It’s like when you start watching a TV season and a bunch of episodes in, you still don’t know what is going on. But you keep watching.
These were on Meh last year. I bought the 12" fan, it’s still running fine. Can be a bit noisy on high but it certainly pushes some air!
These are great fans, the 10" I own is a tank.
Purchased a 10 last year. Power button stopped working, and we used it a dozen times at that.
Happy to see it pop up again - Yay 2 year warranty! You will need it!
Have one of these. Very nice fans
Are you able to set these to the speed you want and then use a smart plug to turn it on and off?
@fmarzano most likely not. I own a vornado fan from Costco (different model) and it doesn’t retain its speed setting if turned on and off as far as I know—unless you want it to be on the lowest speed, which is what it defaults to when turned on. Hope that helps!

Feeling called out… my computer “office” is in the attic… and I need a GD fan

@pmarin Maybe better than nothing. Only helps if the air is somewhat cooled by a fan. Mine didn’t cool the air.
@mehmef @pmarin fans don’t cool the air, they just move it faster. Like when you breathe out hot air or blow cold air; they’re both technically warm, one just comes out slower and the other comes out faster.

Why are people in Kansas purchasing this fan? Specifically, Douglas County.
I’m in Lawrence and I bought 3.
@user36534841
I received my fans today and have a guess as to why so many in Kansas purchased them.
The fans say they’re designed in Kansas. Apparently, Vornado is HQed in Andover, Kansas.
Neato!
How long before it ships?
@user59206991 I received mine today after they shipped last Friday!
