And if you’re seriously asking, lots. Got one for the smart trainer when exercising and now I want one everywhere I might sit when it’s hot but not quite A/C hot. It’s excellent for cooling one human-sized organism.
@Lynnerizer@stinks It’s made by Vornado, so reliability should be very good. I have several Vornado products.
One space heater had a switch melt after a year, but they replaced it with little hassle. Didn’t even have to ship the bad one back, just had to cut the power cord and send a picture of it.
@BarnacleBobbie@stinks
Yes stinks, I was serious. I’ve been looking for a strong fan, one that REALLY BLOWS for a while. I’ve heard people here talk about the quality of the Vornado so it sounds like I should probably go for it. Thanks!
@BarnacleBobbie@Lynnerizer I have a medium-sized Vornado fan too. This probably moves less air (maybe not?) but the column coming out of the middle is game-changing.
I’d seen some comments abut the Sharper Image Vornado desk fan (also on sale now I think) being of less than usual Vornado quality, so on longevity.
@Lynnerizer@stinks The proof is in the pudding (specifications) as they say. This fan is rated at 950 CFM (cubic feet per minute). A Lasko “Wind Machine” 20-inch fan is rated at 2000 CFM. Assuming everybody is being honest, You’ll get a lot more air out of a more-traditional fan. I think the difference is the air coming out of this thing is a much tighter, faster-moving column of air. Meh allows returns, right? Still might be worth a try.
@Lynnerizer@stinks - I bought the “SPIN 12” SI by Vornado fan last month from here and immediately took it apart (per the manual, for cleaning.) I’m pretty impressed with the construction quality, especially at the price.
I’ve been running it effectively continuously since as it’s been pretty hot here, and because if it’s going to die I want it to die fast and under warranty. No signs of trouble yet.
Because our items are steeply discounted and offered in fixed quantities, for a limited time only, we DO NOT accept buyer’s remorse or change-of-mind returns.
@BarnacleBobbie@Lynnerizer Yeah this is what I was getting at. If you want a window fan to get a breeze through your house exchanging air, probably not this.
If you want to make a 100-300 lbs ape-like animal (like me) cooler, point this at yourself. Amaze.
I saw this come up once before and was thinking about getting it to dry smallish areas of carpet after cleaning. Anyone have any thoughts on viability of that option, i.e. does it move enough air to be useful, can it be angled down at the floor? Thanks in advance!
@Aspirant_Fool this looks a lot like a smaller, upside down carpet blower with a prettier case on it and the ability to swivel. It won’t be as easy to blow under the carpet like they do for big scale stuff like disaster services but it should do very well for pointing at the spot you’re cleaning. 950 CFM seems like a lot of air for a small fan too. The big blowers run 2000+ CFM but again I assume we’re talking about spot cleaning here.
@Aspirant_Fool I don’t know if you are still looking for info, but I just got home and checked mine: it can point down. It can rotate forward until it points straight down (maybe good for storage). It can also rotate backwards until it points down (similar to those carpet drying fans).
@djslack That was exactly my thought, and the 950 CFM number, assuming it’s accurate, is way better than similar fans in this size and/or price range. Definitely not looking to replace a professional blower, just something that’ll move a good amount of air over whatever part of the carpet the cats decide to throw up on next week.
@fibrs86 This is fantastic, thanks! I pulled the trigger, we’ll see how it does. I was just curious because I was looking at a couple of their more ‘traditional’ models recently, and when it was possible to tilt them downward at all, the range was pretty limited and they didn’t seem like they’d be any better than a $20 box fan. Between the specs and knowing that it can point straight down, I think this is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

@Lynnerizer Lots.

Long-term reliability tbd.

@Lynnerizer I was going to suggest that this might be the fan for you!

Meh doesn’t really allow returns.
From the FAQ:
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer @stinks - Ah-ha! Thank you, I forgot that.
I’ve only had to return a couple things that were defective.
But this is cheap enough one could flip it on craigslist or evilBay and not lose any money.

Yes, the ape! THIS has got to be what we’re looking for!

@Aspirant_Fool Reviews on Amazon say it can:
