@guybrush01 No, seriously. I bought one of these last time and it was completely DOA. Didn’t bother returning it because the Meh™ RMA process is just slightly easier than getting a Vogon to lift a finger to save their own grandmother from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal.
@guybrush01 I’ve found Meh to be pretty darn diligent about refunding for disappointing products. The single exception was a set of earbuds that bragged a long life, but actually lasted 10 minutes, and probably they’d have take those too, if my horrible puppy hadn’t then chomped them.
@brainmist@guybrush01 eye disagree. Eye was told food could not be returned. Top that off with a cheap ass necklace that was not as described took many pictures and several contacts to eventually get my returns refunded. The whole process made me a more wiser meh user. Now, I only buy if I am willing to face the facts that such item will be far less than what eye am paying and such item will perform far worse than one would ever intend it to. Meh for the win
@guybrush01@whomeyesu dude, I get you probably think it’s clever to sub in “eye” for “I” half the time (because even you can’t bother to override spell check every other word) but every time one of your posts starts that way, I glaze over and ignore it.
Probably you have some content. I can’t bring myself to care. Be less annoying.
@brainmist Hey boss, eye prefer to be a dung beetle over here rather than an elephant butt hair, not that it really matters and eye wish you could care.
@guybrush01 Mine is useless after 4 days will not function stopped as if stuck on a instructions commands or a sensor issue now i just use to kick around as a stress reliever also acts up like my Onkyo i bought from Meh randomly switches off
Refurbs have been a mixed curse for me, from multiple suppliers. A couple of refurbed Sony CD players were partially non-functional on arrival, and had to be returned for exchange, before I got one that just barely made it past the end of the warranty. Three different Fuji bridge cameras had varying levels of issues, but only one was bad enough that I had to send it in for repair - which took six weeks to get turned around. But a refurb Nikon DSLR was perfect out of the box and remains trouble-free. I’ve never tried a refurb Shark product, but that word does not fill me with confidence. The price is awfully attractive. I just wonder how long it would last before it reported me to the Robot Anti-Abuse League, given that it would be in a house with ten cats and a couple of tassel-edged floor mats.
@werehatrack I have bought a refurb normal shark from woot. Before meh existed. That had to be 12 -14 years ago at least and it’s still my vacuum. Although it doesn’t get used much anymore because hardwood. When I need it upstairs still great.
Obviously that would not translate to this product but in general if the product itself is good and the company is good and it’s a company refurb I find the refurbs of that product will be great because they have to go through the whole thing to make sure it works. Often minor production line errors.
As far as the cats only 7 short hairs here. IDK how much yours shed. I have a cheap iron pie bot vacuum that was on meh for like $99. It does fine on hardwood. Comes back with a bin full of hair/crumbs usually but not sure on the rugs. I dont have it on a schedule cause I have to go around and pick up all the mice/toys before I run it. So. That does defeat part of the reason to have one but I still like it.
@unksol Ooof. Cat toys. We never know where they might be, and the cats seem to be able to find another one (theirs or a hijack) at will, so maybe a robot vacuum just isn’t for us. Rats.
@werehatrack I walk around and pick up all their stuff and put them on a stair or couch then manually trigger it. Mine but again totally different company just makes it under the couch which when it doesn’t get stuck… It’s good. Sometimes it does.
How I use mine. Pick up all the “stuff” on the weekends and kick it off. While I go out. Might run it twice. But I work from home and if you have cats or dogs or kids. You are going to have to pick up before any vacuuming anyway so
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What are the odds! Got the same one last time, October 28th 2021, and I accidentally just killed it 2 days ago. Until then, it worked great. A little loud at times, wouldn’t connect to wifi that often, and would sometimes start at random times (it’s ultimate downfall, ran over a cat toy in the middle of the night, I broke the wheel motor trying to free it). Oh, it also thought well defined shadows were ledges. However, when it worked, I was amazed at the amount of dust and dirt it collected every day.
@Jbeyer@werehatrack I mean normally it will push them around but still. I’d pick up the obvious stuff. When the bot is running they don’t deploy in front of it.
@unksol@werehatrack its set to run at 10am, to ensure we have time to clean up after the cat is up all night playing. For some reason, it decided to start at 1am (cat might have stepped on it), and ran over the string to one of their toys.
@Jbeyer@werehatrack yeah that I get being a problem the whole schedule thing. If it randomly kicks off. I just don’t schedule at all. But different bot.
I would just fire it off after I picked up all their stuff
@Tadlem43 I mean I bet it you contacted support they might let you cancel especially if you want to order something else. At least before it gets to shipping.
I bought one of these last time. It stated in the instructions it had to connect on 2.4GHz. My mesh router was set for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Following Shark’s directions that were in the box, I set my router to 2.4GHz only. I could not get it to connect wireless. I call their tech support as instructed rather than returning it. After jumping through their hoops several times as instructed and still not connecting wirelessly I was referred to higher-tech support. I was told the higher-level support team would call me within 48 hours. When I received the call I informed the support agent of all I had done (even having an IT friend trying several things to try and make it connect but to no avail). I was then put on hold and after maybe 5 minutes the support agent came back to me and told me he would be sending me a newer version of their Shark that was better than what I had purchased from Meh and it would have no problem connecting wirelessly. I received it in less than a week, followed the direction to connect it wirelessly and it connected right up. The higher-level agent told me they did not want the Shark I purchased from Meh back and I could just throw it in the trash. The one Meh sent me is now in vacuum cleaner heaven.
With my new Shark was included a roll of black strip I was able to cut in the lengths I need to place on my floor in a couple of areas in which I did not want my Shark to enter and get stuck. The strips work great.
I named my Shark, Ella. Ella and I are now in love. She works great and does a fine job vacuuming. I am kind to her and I do not overwork her. After a few trips around my home, she learned exactly where and how she needed to vacuum in order to make her life easier. I hope Ella outlives me. She works great and does a fine job vacuuming. She is quite content with eating the few scraps she finds on the floor.
@wrallredsr Thank you for this post. I didn’t get far enough with mine to even try to get it on the WiFi, (see my other post) but after fighting with some smart bulbs, getting a heads up about it potentially being the vacuum when I do start that process might save me some sanity. (And I have precious little to spare.)
Mine is already named Rosie after the most popular pop-culture robot that vacuums.
I bought this the last time it was offered, just before Christmas. Coincidentally, our kids bought us an iRobot Roomba for Christmas, so now the household census includes equal numbers of robots and humans. So far, both groups are cohabitating peacefully (but the meat-bags remain vigilant for signs of a mechanical uprising. The cats are particularly wary).
The two robots seem to been about equally effective at their jobs. Roberta is connected to WiFi and is scheduled to take care of the main floor (hardwood + rugs) several times a week, while Sharkie is summoned manually as needed and deals with the carpeted upstairs bedrooms and the carpet + tile basement.
Sharkie does his job quieter and I think his brush rollers are slightly better at getting pet hair out of carpet. Also, his collection bin is a bit easier to empty/clean.
Roberta is noisier but perhaps a little more adept at navigating around without getting stuck. I was a little skeptical of her rubber roller collectors, but they seem to do the job.
Which, after all, is the reason to own it, so that’s a win!
i have an iLife from meh and while it is basically a ‘stoopid’ vacuum (no BT or wifi), it does have scheduling capability. BUT, I use it on an “as needed” basis, since my living space is carved up with single step up/down from the kitchen/dining room to the living room area as well as another to the den/TV room/office. Works well, though I am always leary of how much time it spends trying to navigate through all the chair legs and the barstool legs. Will sometimes move things between the legs to stop the vac from going under the bar and/or table if we haven’t used them since the last time it ran and therefore crumbs are minimal. Also learned to pick up the thin cords from the power bricks (including the one for the base unit of the vacuum itself) since the vac will suck them up and get caught up in the brushes.
Manually relocate it when I want it on a different level, then play hide and seek to find it when the battery runs out since it can’t park itself back into the charger due to the steps. Use it in the bathrooms and bedroom but have to move some of the rugs because it tends to plow them into a pile or get stuck on them occasionally.
Overall I am happy with the purchase and recently found I can buy a bunch of extra replacement filters from Alibaba for next to nothing.
Oh, BTW. On this model there is a mesh pre-filter, and a pleated final filter. I found that I can cut up my old masks and use that between the two and catch a bunch of dust before it gets to the final filter. This allows me to re-purpose the single use sugical masks I use daily in the ER. I just wait a few days for any virus particles to die off before I use them, and I haven’t really noticed a difference in the suction power, but the filters last much longer. Of course, as usual, YMMV…
TL:DR another upvote for (refurb) robot vacuums in general.
I bought one of these a year or so ago, refurbished. It works great and the battery life is still going strong. See it here. Shark Ion R76 RV761 Robot Vacuum Review and 1 year later!!
Got one last time because the Trifos I got over the last couple of years sucked. And not in a good way. Constant complaints needing intervention, and really didn’t do a great job.
This one is much better. It’s not fancy, but it actually works. Wakes up 3 times a week, goes about it’s business, rarely complains, and I have much less dust and pet hair lying around.
Gave away the Trifo that is still (just) usable, threw away the one that couldn’t hold a charge.
Mine was delivered today. I downloaded the App, which made me create an account, like all apps do these days. I did, and then it asked me to sign in, and fails. Same ID and pass worked on their website, so we know that wasn’t the issue, and after a call to support (that got cut off) and a second call, apparently their app is “having some trouble today” and I should try tomorrow.
In case anyone was following along, day two didn’t show any improvement in the app login. I went through support again, and they reset my password for me, and the App let me in. I kept them on the line to try to let the Shark connect to the App, and of course, it didn’t. My case is escalated. -sigh-
So, my faith in tech support is low, so rather than wait I messed with the settings myself. I got it to connect, and Rosie is now cleaning the first floor and scaring my dog.
@LexPendragon Hmm, my Shark vacuum (purchased from Meh in Dec 2021) did not include a boundary strip either. I noticed the manual mentioned that they were available to order.
The setup process for this thing makes me want to throw it out the window. Here was the process in its entirety:
Get everything unboxed and assembled
Download the app in order to set a schedule. Nuts to that, I’m not downloading yet another app just to set up a vacuum.
Download Bluestacks instead, I’m sure it will be fine.
Create an account for the app. Sigh.
Log into new account. Why do I need this?
Connect to Shark robot. Fail connection attempt.
Start troubleshooting. Apparently the Shark robot has problems connecting to mesh WiFi networks or networks using the 5 Ghz spectrum. 2.4 Ghz only.
Disable the 5 Ghz spectrum. Still can’t connect.
Pull out my old Netgear router, disable 5 Ghz, connect to Shark robot. Fail connection attempt.
Finally give in and download the app to my actual phone.
Connect to Shark robot. It finally works. What was the issue, you ask? Why didn’t Bluestacks work? Because my phone did not use the 2.4 Ghz WiFi network to connect. It CREATED AN AD-HOC WIFI NETWORK BETWEEN MY PHONE AND THE SHARK ROBOT.
Set a schedule for the robot to follow.
Delete the app, put away the old Netgear router, fix my mesh network.

Just bought one, probably because I’m a special type of stupid, but also, with dogs, it does help to keep the floor clean.
@brainmist So clean.
@yakkoTDI
oh man.
Ok, but if it outlasts chew toys, it may still be worth it?

Sharks at the beach. Did I figure out your picture puzzle?
@hchavers Shark frisbee at the beach. This is how it begins, and eventually you end up with a sharknado.
@hchavers @werehatrack lol titanic shark… while playing thy violin while Rosanna Bar singing…
“Zoom Zoom” nope “Shroom Shroom” eye do not think that is it either; “Vroom Vroom” yes thats right if it ran on gas; “Duh-Duh, Duh-Duh Shark”

@Jbeyer Cat toys, yeah, I hadn’t though about the number of robovac mines our cat squad can deploy in a short period.
@Jbeyer @werehatrack I mean normally it will push them around but still. I’d pick up the obvious stuff. When the bot is running they don’t deploy in front of it.
@Jbeyer I bought one around at same time. It only worked for 4 days I kicked left it in at the murder scene its been there ever since…

@Tadlem43 I mean I bet it you contacted support they might let you cancel especially if you want to order something else. At least before it gets to shipping.
@Tadlem43 it is the weekend though so might be all out of office but it doesn’t hurt to ask. They are very accommodating when they can be.

Bought one before x-mas on meh. Works well so far. Using 3-4 times a week on laminate. Dirt get collected.
